Mousekeeping Envelopes

I was reading the "ultimate packing list" and it said to bring envelopes for tips for mousekeeping. Disney doesn't provide envelopes? Do I have to put the tip in an envelope?

No, you don't HAVE to put the tip in an envelope. Some people (me included!) like to print out envelopes with a Disney clip art on it that says "Thank you Mousekeeping" or something like that.

I had printed out special envelopes, but I forgot them!

We used the envelopes provided with the stationary in the desk drawer. They were replaced everyday... she was on to us!

I just write a note each morning that says "Thanks for cleaning our room! The Green's room ___" and leave it with the money on the bathroom sink area. I always mean to fix envelopes but have yet to do it! The note works well enough.

Disney doesn't provide envelopes for tips because their housekeepers are non-tipped personnel.

I printed out envelopes for the Mousekeeping tips in advance. Part of my "planning" was to save a few dollars a week (easy to do this way) and fill my envelopes. When we left for the trip, I had an envelope all prepared for each night of our trip. I think the site I found the envelopes at was "themouseforless.com"

I have a stupid question.....are you supposed to tip mousekeeping? I honestly never had any idea so we have never done so.

I always use an envelope or leave a note. Since Mousekeeping is not a tipped position most will not just take money off the table. We left it out once without a note and they did not take it.

There have been many discussions about this, in many online discussion forums.. you might want to check the archives. It was such a hot topic that a few years ago we asked the General Manager of the BoardWalk resort to clarify. He made it clear that housekeepers are not tipped personnel. They're "supposed" to decline tips, but no one polices that, and you won't get anyone in trouble if you leave an extra gift for the housekeepers and they take it. However, you surely shouldn't feel compelled to leave them anything. My personal preference, considering giving a little extra something to folks doing a really hard job in really tough conditions, would be to tip the folks who clean the theme park bathrooms. I wonder if someone could make up envelopes for that for me.

I tend to tip for services such as the tire tech or furniture delivery guys who do put in a tough day and make very little. I certainly put maids/housekeepers in that category. While I do believe this manager's statement, I personally have never seen any effort on WDW to communicate that to its guests and it will not change my thoughts on tipping for mousekeeping.

On the question on whether or not to tip mousekeeping. . .We do it because of a job well done. Even though it would be done without the tip, I am grateful to come back to a wonderful, cleaned up room at the end of a day at the parks. I do believe that with the tip the mousekeeping tends to do an "extra" special job of cleaning. I know a lot of people would say that isn't so but we have found it to be. This is especially so when we are staying for a week or so and have the same housekeeping personal during our trip. They seem to "know" who we are after a couple of days. We get animals out of towels, extra towels once they notice how we have several with us, and the room just seems more attended to. I didn't use to tip mousekeeping and after noticing people on the boards here did, I began doing it. To be honest I felt bad I hadn't done it and there was a difference once we began doing it. By the way, we also tip bellmen, servers, and our drivers to and from the airport so why not housekeeping?

Thanks for your input everyone. I think I will make my own envelopes. It will give me something to do to occupy my time while I'm waiting for the trip.

Even though tipping may not be something you have to do or even expected, I'm sure it's appreciated. What may not seem like much to me may turn out to be a blessing to someone else. I believe that when you do good things for someone else, good things will find you. My rule to live by "I'll reap what I sow."

Do you guys know where I can go to get Disney gifs or jpgs or anything to put on my envelopes.. Im kinda looking for borders and stuff too. I mean I'm good with improvising and all so if you don't know any its cool.

On this note--good point. If I am in the bathroom and I see a person in there cleaning, I will give them a few bucks too.

About how much does everyone tip? In the past, I've always left one large tip at the end of the vacation. But now that I think about it, tipping everyday is better, since there may be several different Mousekeepers. I think we've always left a few dollars for each day we've stayed.

I think it is better to tip every day because I do think it does make a difference on having "extra" cleaning to the room. I also think it makes a difference on whether there will be a towel animal left which is fun. Plus in case there is different mousekeepers it gives the tip to the correct one who cleans the room.

There are four of us and I always leave $5.00 per day. I save $5.00 bills all year long before our trip for extra spending money, laundry, and tips while we are on our trip so I just use those.
