Mousekeeping at the BCV

I just wanted to throw this out there and see what others do when they stay at the BCV and get towel and trash service every 3 or 4 days only. With a family of 4 staying in a studio we had filled the tiny trash can we had by the first night with souviner bags, take out containers, misc. By the 2nd night there was popcorn all over the floor. I am not the neatest person but by the time the mousekeeping came, the garbage and towels were piled up. It was downright dirty in the room! We were told that for $30 they would actually clean the room. A little pricey...What do other DVC members do about the mousekeeping (or lack thereof?).

Thanks!

As DVC Members, we maintain our room ourselves and do not purchase the extra cleaning services. You can remove your trash as often as you like and take it to the garbage room on the floor of your resort.

You should take your towels to the laundry room and there you can wash and dry them so they are clean and fresh for you.

Here is the listing of what Trash and Towel as well as Full Cleaning covers:

Trash & Towel Service
For stays of seven or less nights, Trash & Towel Service is provided on day four, regardless of whether you're using Member-discounted cash, Vacation Points or a combination of both.

With Trash & Towel service, Housekeeping will:

Empty trash and replace liners in trash bins.
Provide fresh bathroom linens.
Replace shampoo, facial soap and bath soap.
Replenish facial tissues, paper towels and toilet paper.
Replenish coffee, sugar, cream and sweeteners.
Replenish dishwashing liquid, dishwashing detergent, sponges and laundry detergent as needed in one-, two- and three-bedroom Vacation Homes.

Full Cleaning Service
For stays of eight or more nights, Full Cleaning Service is provided on day four and Trash & Towel Service is provided on day eight. After that, the cycle begins again on day 12, regardless of whether you're using Member-discounted cash, Vacation Points or a combination of both.

With Full Cleaning service, Housekeeping will provide everything included with the Trash & Towel Service, plus:

Change the bed linens.
Vacuum and dust the Vacation Home.
Clean the bathroom(s).
Clean the kitchen/kitchenette and wash the dishes.

I don't know about anyone else, but I don't want to do any sort of housework on my vacation. It is too bad that hotel guests are treated to better mousekeeping arrangements.

Keep in mind... we're not staying in hotels. We're staying in a timeshare of which we are part owners. The concierge rooms are for the timeshare owners who want hotel service. Like paying for first class air travel... it costs more.

I'm not even real keen on mousekeeping coming in at anytime during our stay. For us it is not a chore to keep things tidy as we go, and do laundry as we need it.

:)

If you want extra cleaning, you are more than welcome to pay for it. Most members don't mind the limited housekeeping a bit.

This is exactly how I feel as well. Don't mind one bit that we don't receive daily mousekeeping - but we all knew this upfront when we purchased DVC. It doesn't take much time to straighten out the villa without doing a lot of heavy duty housework. We are a family that reuses bath towels more than once at home so it doesn't bother us not to get towels each day.

As to the OP's garbage dilema, we've never stayed in a studio so I don't know how big the garbage can is compared to a 1BR. I'd say just stick the full bags in a closet area so they're out of the way and leave them out on T&T day.

I'm another one that prefers that they are not in everyday. We recycle the Souvie bags and take them to the trash as we walk pass to go to the parks. This way trash is always going out and not that much of it.

We do pay extra for towles as we stay in studios and it makes it easier to not have to do the wash. On longer trips we add a T & T day as well to even things out.

The price we are saving by haveing DVC is well worth that extra 10 to 25 dollars a trip.

Given that rack rate for studios, which includes daily housekeeping, start at $285 per night + tax, I'm not at all unhappy with my DVC membership.

My point stays in studios, given my initial buy in and current dues, cost me less than $75 per night, on average, during DVC Adventure season.

I agree. We put out the "do not disturb" sign everyday when we leave our room. We don't really need mousekeeping to come in at all. I throw a load of towels in each night when we're back in our room (I don't think it's a big deal to do that and believe me I am one of those members who NEVER even boils tea water on vacation), but if we ever do need more clean towels I just dial Mousekeeping and they bring them right up along with any other amenities we might need. :)

You forgot to mention that they don't have to spend over ten thousand dollars up front and that they sometimes get free dining.

I have really never had a issue with mousekeeping. I have used DVC on 7 different trips and not once an issue. If the trash fills up I just walk it down the hall and towels I just wash them or ask if I need more. Floors messy I just grab the vacuum and clean up.

If we had daily cleaning our dues would be higher.

Yes we spend quite a bit of money for DVC. In the 7 years I have owned it has already paid for itself and I still have 40+ years to go.

I, too, prefer not having Mousekeeping in my room everyday. On a daily basis, I take my trash to the trashroom on my way to the parks. And, I love to vacuum with those self-propelled vacuums in the rooms. (For real...!)

They're not. We DVC members have always received as good service from the housekeepers as any guests. However, unlike regular hotel guests, we get to decide how many days of housekeeping we want to pay for. So someone like you, who wants housekeeping every day, can pay for that if you wish, while those of us willing to keep things cleaner ourselves can save a lot of money. It is a fantastic system that allows each person to pay just for what they want, instead of some of us subsidizing the desires of others -- that is an advantage that regular hotel guests do not have. They must pay for housekeeping every day -- it is built into their daily rate. They have no choice to pay less money, like we do, if they want less housekeeping service.

Note that around here, cleaning a studio apartment costs a bit more than $30 per visit. Disney's prices for extra housekeeping service are quite competitive.

Popcorn all over the floor? How about having the pigs who dropped it there clean up after themselves??? I don't live like that at home, and don't live that way on vacation. Like many others who have posted, I knew what I was getting when I bought dvc (it's called being informed), and prefer that nobody's coming into the room except every 4th day. Hanging the towels to dry, making the beds, and simply picking up after yourself negates the need for housekeeping coming into the room. Dropping trash off in the trash room as needed is NO big deal....it's common sense.

Hotel guests pay for housekeeping through their room rate, they don't have a choice. Take into consideration a studio at BCV ranges from $325 to $490 a night plus tax without a discount. DVC members can choose if they want to pay for it or not. If you want it, then pay for it. Dues would be much higher if they included housekeeping for everyone. I for one have never missed daily housekeeping in almost 9 years of DVC.

Regarding the trash, I take it out every day or two, there are "trash rooms" on every floor.

I rather have my room to myself. I have 2 small children and mosekeeping is always there at a bad time.

I travel a lot... generally at nice hotels. Marriott, Westin, W, Ritz Carlton, etc. I generally keep the DND sign up for the duration. I dont want people in my room.

I don't really consider cleaning up after myself housework, and I do not believe hotel guests are treated better than us.
