As for tipping, it is up to the guest. I don't normally tip housekeeping when I stay at a hotel, but heck there is just something about WDW that makes me happy and I enjoy tipping.

As for tipping the people that clean the restroom, I go so much at my age that I would quickly go broke if I did.

I never even think twice about towel animals.. yea.. they are cute from the pictures I've seen, but it doesn't excite me. We've stayed many times in Disney, and we have only gotten one towel animal. It was sitting inside the glass on the sink. I'm not even sure what it was. I know it was something because there were two tiny sticker dots to represent the eyes.

When we went on the Disney cruise, yes, we received the towel animals everyday. It was very nice. I wasn't expecting any.. but that was a nice Disney touch.

EDIT TO ADD: What would excite me is if I get a room upgrade!! Or a nice picture of Mickey or any characters with their signature on it and Mickey balloons in the room! That would be a nice surprise!!

It's exciting for my daughter. We have always got towel animals more often than not during our stays in WDW, and she likes to line them all up in the room. I think they're cute, but it's certainly not ruining my day if we happen to not get one

Huge difference between angry and disappointed! Also a huge difference being expecting to get one and for a kid wishing they would get one. There's certainly nothing wrong with a kid wishing they'd get one during their stay and being slightly disappointed if they don't get one at all. Getting angry over not getting one and complaining is a whole different situation. I agree it's best not to expect; nothing wrong though with hoping to.

[SIZWe always tip as well. On one visit at CBR when we were checking out, mousekeeping was outside when we were taking our luggage down to check in for our flight. We had set up the animals that they had made for us on our trip in the window so people could see as they passed by. She asked us why we weren't taking them with us, that they were made for us. Unfortunately we didn't have the room in our luggage, but it would have been awesome to bring the lovebirds that they made home with us as we celebrated our anniversary on that trip.E="2"][/SIZE]

Taking them with you? If Disney realized that mousekeeping was permitting people to take towels home, this whole animal thing would come to an abrupt end.

Tips do not buy towel animals. Proven over and over. Also, housekeeping is a non-tipped position.

I beg to differ. Not sure where you got that information. Its more common to tip than not to tip.

What does this mean? Everyone I know tips housekeeping everywhere including at WDW. It's a well established fact at WDW. Has this been changed just recently? If so when? I don't want to spend money that I don't have to, but at the same time I'm certainly not going to cheat the girls out of something they have earned. Has anyone else heard anything about this?
BTW, PHL, you use the same airport as we do! Same hometown, too! Good luck on your ten miler!

Really?! It's not uncommon to tip housekeeping! It's probably more uncommon not to! Again to each their own.

I really didn't want this to turn controversial. Again as stated in my previous post, this is what just our experience was. I tip housekeeping no matter what hotel I stay in whether it's a "tipped" position or not and we will continue to do so until housekeeping refuses our tips. I do not tip the kind people that clean toilets in the parks because I don't have unlimited funds but I always say thank you if they're cleaning while I'm in the bathroom.

I always tip mousekeeping. Its just my son and I, but I leave about $4-$5 a day. There are many positions that are not a tipped position yet ppl still tip them. Such as hair dressers and nail technicians. Im sorry but I think ppl who indicated "its not a tipped position therefore im not tipping them" are just looking for reasons not to give $/tip.

As for the towel animals....I always tip every day yet I dont always get a towel animal. I normally get one or two during my stay, but thats it thou. Only one time at Sports did we get one daily. It was cute. But again, no biggie.

We usually always get the mouse ears on the bed on check in day. After that it's hit or miss like everyone said. We've also had Mousekeepers who did cute little things with the kids small stuffed buddies. It just depends on who is assigned to your room. Most of the really cute stuff has happened at POR during a few different trips so maybe there are just a few there who enjoy doing more.
On a side note, when DH and I were at a Sandals resort in Jamaica, they gave a little class/demonstration on making towel animals and I thought it was really fun! I learned to make the doggy. They also showed birds perched on a heart and a few others.

I know that I should keep my big mouth shut BUT...wow! it's kind of embarrassing for one to admit that you don't tip.
again, big mouth me...I worked as a housekeeper when I was a kid (back then we were called chambermaids) and even working for "H" brand I saw some of the nastiest crap when people didn't leave tips - that is why now, I always bring clorox wipes, lysol, and my own pillow case!!!

Im one of those people who could go my entire stay without a towel animal or house keeping ever coming into my room and I would be perfectly fine. I would walk to the pool to get some new towels if I felt I needed any. Nonetheless I still tip because I know what it is like to have a job that no one appreciates. I guess its just a personal preference.

We NEVER got ANY towel animals at WL in May. VERY disappointing-not even one! And it was clear there were was young children staying in the room.

We tipped every day at the WL in May and got only one animal and that was on a day the regular housekeep was off. She was from Russia and had only worked there six months. I really don't think she knew how to make them. That being said on our last trip to WL we had an animal every day. I guess it is hit and miss with the housekeeper.

Agree! I'm not sure I still even understand what a non-tipped position is with regard to housekeeping. I know there are non-tipped positions at Disney and when you go to tip these people they explain they can't take tips such as the CMs and Check-In, the CMs at the Kids Clubs, the CMs that run thr Pirate Adventure, etc.. If housekeeping was not allowed to accept tips like those other CMs, why would they take so many people's tips? Of the all the times we been to the world, we've never had a tip rejected by housekeeping which makes me think they are in fact allowed to accept tips.

Regarding the original subject, on our first trip we had gotten my DS a Star Wars basket for his birthday. It came with a stuffed Jedi Mickey. When we came back from the park the first day, Mousekeeping had not only made towel animals on the bed, but she had strung Mickey up (decoratively) in our window at ASM. It was very cool.

As others have said, it varies significantly depending on the staff. But we treat it like all other Pixie Dust, it makes us happy when we get it, but we never expect it. My son will happily catalog for you all of the pixie dust he's received, down to the last Disney Bus Trading Card. Of course, I also make our own Pixie Dust (see my sig) so that helps too.

I just don't understand the towel animal obsession. I'm happy if Mousekeeping does a good job of cleaning my room. I tip every day, but it's not to "bribe" the cleaning staff to leave me towel animals.

We do tip (not $15/day - that's insane), anywhere from $2-7 a day depending on how many singles we can dig up. I just think its nice to tip to someone for cleaning up after us, when we could very well do things, like make the bed ourselves.
