Mouse (computer-type) help!!

We had a houseful of people yesterday and I'm not sure how many "kids" were on my computer. Since they are all know how to use a computer and are older (the youngest is 16), I didn't think I had to worry, BUT today my right-click button doesn't work! I use it all the time, so it's bugging me that it isn't working. Anyone have an idea of how to fix it?

Clic the start button and clic on control panel. From there go to your "mouse" and clic it. They probably changed the mouse settings on you and forgot to change it back before leaving.

I checked that, but nothing seems to be amiss. I just can't right-click and access the shortcuts. GRR!

Maybe the right button is broken??

OK this sounds like a dumb guess. If your mouse is USB you can try plugging it into another USB port. If it's a serial plug, make sure your computer is off then unplug it and plug it back in. Nowadays they are color coded with the mother board and it can only go in one way. It's even "me" proof!
You might go back into your control panel and look into the system tab, under Hardware and then into Device Manager. It will tell you right away if there is something wrong but the problem may lie in your mouse being broken.

what is the mouse manufacturer? Most have drivers that overide windows system controls.
Like if it is a logitech you have to go to
start>logitech>mouse and keyboard>settings
then check the assignment to the right click command.

it should highlight when clicked for a test.

even if it appears to be working in the setup screen, some functions (like right-click) can be assigned to do different things for different programs.

Of course the manufacturer is Microsoft. I've tried to find where it is, but of course, am not having any luck.

Then, I think an MS mouse would be part of the Windows Control Panel. There should be an icon for Mouse. Click that. Maybe click under Device Option, try resetting it? Or seeing if the pointing options are right for your mouse.

Also, in Control Panel, I have an icon for Game Controllers. Maybe there was something there that overrides the Mouse functions.

Nothing at all happens. I don't get any type of menu like I used to get.

I should know..we go thru at least one Microsoft mouse a year..we even tried a different model #..and after a certain period of time..it just stops working..I have even reformatted the computer, and THEN found out it was a bad mouse!..they aren't that expensive..just replace it!..I have bought ours at walmart...I just keep the receipt..and if it happens to fail in the 90 days , they have just replaced it..one time I sent it to Microsoft..they returned it to me telling me it was out of warranty!

thanks everyone for your input. I tried all the suggestions, but nothing worked. I figured I would stumble along, since the right-click feature really isn't a necessity. However on Sunday the keyboard started acting funny. Since they came as a set, are wireless, and over 4 years old, I decided that I should just suck it up and buy new.
