He is mellow at times, and totally wired at others! Hugging him would be like wrapping your arms around 25 Monty Dogs!!

He is a BIG goofball..very sweet, and (don't tell DH-who thinks he is smart) a little on the "dim" side...

What a sweet looking dog! What breed is he? He looks a bit like my dog (border collie/Newfoundland mix) except mine is a bit smaller!

Yep, he is a Landseer (Newfoundland). They also come in Black and Bronze...

Awww, what a cutie!

I want to post a picture of Max so you guys can see how handsome he is, but aside from the fact that I don't have a scanner or digital camera to use, I have yet to get a decent photo of him.

He's all black and therefore hard to photograph, especially for a total camera fool like me.

I should ask my nephew to bring his digital camera when we all go down the shore. Maybe he can get a good shot of the Maxi-dog I can share.

I have wanted a Newfoundland forever, but my place really isn't big enough and DH says no animals because we go away alot and he doesn't think it is fair to leave them home, also doesn't feel that someone else should watch our pets because we aren't home.

He IS a big boy, weighing in at about 135 lbs. That is actually on the small size for a boy Newf. He probably should weigh more like 150-160, but he likes to keep his physique "slim"..

Newfs are actually bred for water rescue. If trained properly they can pull a small boat w/passenger back to shore. They have water trials, much the same that hunting dogs have "field trials".

We have never seen these trials before, but I bet they are really cool. I think that Portugese Water Dogs work at the same trials, I may not be correct on that point.
