Motorola 2 way radios (I know there's an old thread but search is down)

My mom bought my DS 5 the Mickey Motorola 2 way radios for Christmas. He doesn't know that we're going to WDW in February and just thinks they're cool walkie talkies. So are they worth actually brining to the parks? I can't really think of too many situations when we'd need them. Just me, DS and my mom are going to WDW this time, and we all go on all the rides. Do they actually work OK? I know there was an old thread about people having trouble with using a channel without a million other people on it. My mom thought they might be good if I take DS to the pool or something and she hangs out in the resort, would they work in a situation like that? I just don't want to lug them around if we aren't going to use them. WHat are your thoughts???

We used them last April. They worked in all the parks except MK. It was just impossible to find a clear channel there. But, it was fine around the resorts, pools, etc.

We used them last year and found them very handy at times, like when I went for FP or snacks and my family waited in lines. Also helpful when some of us at the pool, laundry etc...... I switched my cell phones to nextel this year so will be using those as walkies instead of the frs radios. Make sure you get the radio's with the "security" feature. This allows you to set a security code on all your walkies so that you will only receive transmissions on your frequency plus with your security code on it. THat really cuts down on the radio traffic you pick up that you don't want to hear. In one week at easter last year, only had one unwanted transmission cut in on our radios.
