I have been looking for information on motion sickness meds, but everything I find on these boards is only available in the US. Gravol works for me, but puts me into a deep sleep. Not how I want to spend my vacation. I've heard that there is a patch of some type, but I've got mixed information. The pharmasist I asked said you had to reapply the patch every 4 hours, while I heard from someone that it was good for 4 - 5 days. Anyone know of something that could help? I'm also chaperoning a grade 5 trip, and this would really come in handy if I had something. We are loading up 38 9yr olds on a bus, and making the 13 hour drive down to Winnipeg for 7 days. Somehow I don't think that it will be very good for my motion sickness, but I can't sleep the whole time either (even if I wanted to) LoL!

Meclizine HCl (Bonine, I think was the brand available at Shoppers) worked for my DH when we went to Universal. I took it in prep for Mission Space, too. It didn't put either of us to sleep, and we were able to enjoy the rides. And we didn't fall asleep! HTH

Do you mean Bonamine, Debbie? :) I took that before I went on RnR coaster for the first time. It worked well, and didn't make me sleepy either.

Kim :)

Thanks for all the help. I'm going to see if we can order something like that in at our hospital pharmacy up here. It helps to have a brand name or something like that to start with.

I can't help with the motion sickness, but the following caught my eye...

That must put you up somewhere just south of Ellesmere Island! :teeth: Where are you coming from? Flin Flon? Thompson? Snow Lake? (I had an uncle who used to live in Snow Lake years ago. :p )

::yes:: Thanks Kim, I think that was it. Started with "Bon" ended with "ine". . . dark blue box :sunny:

There is a new Gravol out now. It is non-drowsy and contains ginger. Worked well for me at Universal last week.

Dramamine has a non-drowsy formula out, but I have never tried any of that. All I tried was natural stuff (since as a pilot, even in the beginning during our aerobatics phase we could not take any real 'meds). Having said that, there is something in Ginger root that calms the stomach. You can get this either in pill form, or by simply eating ginger snaps (or the med that was listed above with ginger). Just eating ginger snaps a half hour or so before a flight enabled me to do EVERY bit or aerobatics without getting sick.

Also, Here is a reply I posted about someone that was asking about mission:space :

here is the big thing- trust me, I have had to sit through so many aerospace physiology classes I can help here. Guys like me pull 9Gz (yes, G sub z) on a daily basis (although it is in a jet aircraft), but we did not start out being able to do this. It takes time for your 'head' to become accustomed to g-forces, acceleration, AND being able to move your head around.

so as not too get technical- there is a gland that is like a caterpillar with feet attached to your head. It 'floats' in a liquid, and transmits the feeling of the fluid moving down the caterpillar's legs to your brain. When you move your head from side to side, you are giving the brain an input that says 'I am moving this way' - this usually will directly conflict with what your eyes are saying, which is 'No, we are definitely going this way' = the result is that you feel motion sickness.

So, to come back to the real world here, you won't get that feeling in the pit of your stomach that you are falling, but you DEFINITELY do not want to move your head from side to side during the ride. (the above is true for all the spin me around type rides- if you want to look around, turn your head VERY slowly AND methodically- or just avert your eyes.) If anyone wants to know more, let me know and I will email details so as not to bore you.

We have tried ginger cookies and the sea bands to help 2 of our DDs without putting them to sleep -- they've worked. I must qualify though that perhaps they were growing out of the motion sickness. But indeed both and especially 1 who is most sensitive has now successfully taken road trips with only those measures.
