Okay - I'm a total wimp and think that I might not be able to go on some rides because I think I get motion sickness....not 100% sure though. Every time I fly I take draminen because I don't want to get sick so I take precautions.

Any tips on what else I can do to make sure I don't get sick?....Anyone have tips on which rides to avoid (at all costs- LOL)?

I've never been on a true rollercoster so I'm not sure what to expect. The closest I've come is going to Noahs Ark and riding the water rides! So looking for any and all advice....I see all of these little kids on the rides and think that if they can do it - so can I!!!!

:)

I have extreme motion sickness which started as a young child. I can't imagine being worried about having it if you never have had it :confused3. I have 4 kids and none of them have ever taken dramamine, I get sick just swinging a couple of times on a swing. We do long car trips and have flown several times. I would suggest that you start slow. If you can do Dumbo and the carousel, then try The Barnstormer, which is a kiddie roller coaster. After that try Big Thunder Mountain RR and move up to Space Mountain. Rockin' Roller Coaster and the new Everest ride are much faster, wilder, so save those for last. You have to remember, though, that people who DO have motion sickness are generally each bothered by different things. Some people love coasters but can't stand spinning. Some are more bothered by the simulator rides than by real coasters. Some people can't stand bumpy/jerky rides but smooth coasters are okay. It really affects each person differently. Some people swear by ginger tablets, but that doesn't work for severe cases like mine. Some love Bonine but I had BAD side effects from it....I would say if you have never gotten sick in a car/plane/boat you would probably be okay on most of the stuff at WDW. Just start slow and try not to get yourself all worked up before you even know if you have motion sickness or not.

Also, a good Disney guide book can tell you details about each ride (I like the UG) and which ones are likely to cause motion sickness and why. Another thing to remember is that dramamine does work AFTER the fact, if you start feeling sick you can take it after the ride. Most people don't like it because it makes them so sleepy, but it is the only thing that works for me in the car/plane. I just don't do any of the big rides at WDW, but there is still so much I can do! Your right, most people, even little kids, ride everything and don't get sick. Why do you worry about it? My guess is that no one ever told thme that they may get sick so they never worry about it to begin with. Have you never done carnival rides ot anything??

I went in July and took Dramamine non-drowsy every morning, just in case. I get motion sickness, not not always. I wanted to make sure I didn't ruin a day, so i took it every morning and all was well! Hey, can't hurt!! :)

I've had problems with motion sickness all my life.I take Meclizine one hour prior to flying and then twice a day for the duration of my trip and I'm able to enjoy all the rides I choose to go on. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I have always been a little paranoid about getting motion sickness, but you should probably be fine. Work your way up to the bigger rides, but if you are sure you have motion sickness then stay away from space mountain( I did not get sick, but did feel quite quesy) and Tower of Terror( I did not get sick either but if you have motion sickness you can see where it would not be a good Idea). A great ride I think was Rockin' Roller Coaster. It was really smooth, and super fun. One more too stay away from: The Mission to Mars on at Epcott. Its not too bad, but it has a bad reputation considering there are barf bags inside the ride:). Hope I helped!

I, too, get extreme motion sickness. (Sucks, doesn't it?) I haven't had any problem with any of the rides at WDW, however. I think if a few of them were any longer, I may get sick, but in general I've been okay with them. I have avoided Mission to Mars, though. I don't want to ruin a whole day at EPCOT with a ride that did make my DS sick (and he isn't prone to motion sickness).

I've lived with motion sickness all my life. Knowing how horrible it feels to be queasy, I take a Dramamine before riding anything that might make me woozy. My DH can't do rides that spin (no teacups or tilt-a-whirl) even with a Dramamine, though he feels fine flying and riding for hours in a car. Big word of advice: do not consume ANY alcoholic beverages if you've taken a Dramamine (or most other motion sickness pills). It will knock you flat! I've seen it happen, and that is probably worse than the motion sickness would have been!

As for Mission: Space at Epcot...I LOVED it. It was fabulous! I was ready to jump aboard a second time. I took a Dramamine moments before stepping on the ride since I had forgotten before leaving for the park that day, but I think I would have been just fine without it. Since you're not seeing the world spin around you, you don't really feel like you're spinning.

The best advice I had received regarding motion sickness was if you were going to take an anti-nausea tablet that you haven't used before, try it before you leave home.
Bonamine had been recommended to me, but when I took it I was so groggy that I was compelled to sleep for almost twelve hours and still felt out of it. :confused3
I was so glad that I hadn't waited to try this on our vacation, I would have lost out on some valuable time. . .
Other recommendations were to start taking ginger before and during your vaction or to try the wristbands. I did try both, and although they helped some I still felt queezy on rides with a lot of motion.
If anyone has other suggestions, I would love to hear them. We are going back in January and I would be thrilled not to have to contend with motion sickness.:sad2:

Have you ever tried sea bands? I've had motion sickness me entire life but a lot of the time I have been unable to take any medication for various reasons (look at my siggy- usually pregnant or nursing:rotfl: ). I stumbled upon sea bands when I was learning how to fly since a lot of the standard medications made me too groggy to feel comfortable piloting a glider. They are a wrist band that has a little knobby thing to provide pressure to a point in your wrist that prevents motion sickness.

I used sea bands when I was pregnant since they just work on pressure points and don't contain any chemicals. I think they work great. I still occasionally reach for them if my tummy feels funny at night.

When flying, or sitting in the back seat of a car I take Dramamine. I don't usually take anything before going to parks. I can usually tell what will make me feel sick. We went on the tame version of Mission Space at Epcot and it wasn't a problem for me at all. When we went on the same ride a week later, I felt queasy toward the end and dizzy when I got off. I also felt a little off balance after Expedition Everest. I really don't like to spin so I avoid the Teacups. However, I wanted to try Primeval Whirl so I did and wasn't happy afterward. I just felt mildly gross but definitely didn't go on again when my husband and boys wanted to . They don't call it Primeval Hurl for nothing!

I also am quite prone to motion sickness. When we were in WDW in March, the only ride that really got me was Mission: Space in Epcot. We were fine when we were on the ride, but once we got off, we started to feel queasy. My mom and I felt terrible, and even my dad and sister who rarely get sick were also quite queasy. We didn't go back on and I don't think we will when we go again in February. Before going, we all took Graval but that didn't seem to do anything for that ride.

I get very motion sick and started taking ginger pills. They really seem to work. We were there in early December and I went on just about every ride. The only one that was bad for me was Mission to Mars. I will NEVER go on that one again!!!!! I was on the tea cups 3 times in a row and really spun it and had no problem.

Thanks for more tips on dealing with motion sickness and what rides seem to be worse. . .

:thanks:

So glad that I wasn't the only one worried about the motion sickness thing. We were at a fair back in August and most didn't bother me...there was one though...we were kinda going up and down in a circle and we being pushed to the corner of our seat on the ride. Didn't feel the best after that one and I hadn't taken anything. There are a few at WDW that I'm thinking I would be better off if I didn't go on! :)

Dramamine is my BEST FRIEND!!!

YES it helps to take this before rides... I know exactly how you feel... when I took a cruise for the first time I was walking through the halls holding on to the walls rocking back and forth.... nobody else was.... I could feel every wave and then someone told me to go get dramamine... IT WORKED MIRACLES- I never felt anything again although there was no side affects from taking it. My mom was a nervous person about keeping up with the grandkids since she hasnt ever been a ride person BUT she took it also and was amazed.... I personally dont think theres really anything at disney that is all that terrible.... except tower of terror and that new expedition everest at AK.... dramamine doesnt help fear of heights but takes care of the rest. GOOD LUCK, pop some pills and HAVE A BLAST!!

Yes Dramamine is great especially the non drowsy version for Disney. I also got extremely sick going on Mission Space, although I also have asthma. I felt like I could not breathe at all and then felt sick to my stomache and had to sit down for awhile. I have heard that they have a tame version now w/o the spinning so I hope that it is an improvement. Also Star Tours made me feel so sick when I was watching the movie I had to close my eyes.

BONINE!!

Available at Walmart, cheap, one pill lasts all day, chewable (tastes like orange flavor of baby aspirin) and does not make you sleepy. Take one every day whether you need it or not and take a few with you in your bag to the park. they are a vaca saver!!

great info. I posted about this awhile ago. It is different for everyone but I had the same fears and will be taking dramamine and probably skipping EE!
