Well, I do not know what to do. We invited a freind to go with us to WDW. I did not find out until after we invited him that he gets motion sick. He has never been on an amusement park ride before. What are my options?

Please help.

My son has taken the non-drowse formula of dramanine, and it worked for him. You could have it with you just in case its needed.

My husband has terrible motion sickness. It doesn't mean you can't enjoy most of the rides at WDW. He can not do the tea cups or any of the simulation rides. He did just fine on Soarin. He takes Dramine before he goes on Mission Space and takes it a little easier just after getting off that ride. Each and every other ride he has no problems with.

Start off with easier rides. Even the "kiddie" rides are meant for all of us adults to ride. :thumbsup2

Also, remember that there are so many other things in each of the parks to enjoy. I'm sure your friend will have a wonderful time regardless of his motion sickness.

Bonnine works great and no drowsy problems. One tablet each day and no worries. My son would turn green at the thought of space mountian, now with Bonnie he loves all the rides and no upset tummy

I don't do most of the rides and I have a ball at Disney, so I don't see what the problem is.

But you could also try the acupressure wristbands, which eliminates any unpleasant side effects of medications. Walgreens sells them for $10.

I agree with the others. I have a great time at Disney but I will not do the simulator rides.

Both DS and I are very prone to motion sickness, but really, the only rides that have bothered me were Body Wars, the Teacups, and the Astro Orbiter (is that what it's called?). Most rides, even roller coasters are okay because they're more speed than motion sickness inducing. I've never done Mission: Space, however--and I'm still not decided if I'll try to the green version on this trip! Similutors (like Mission: Space and Star Tours) are probably the worst for motion sickness.

What is Bonnie, I've never heard of it? My DS and I both get motion sickness, but he really wants to to Star Tours.

I have a problem with lots of meds hitting me like a ton of bricks -- even when they're not supposed to and nobody else has a problem. I read something recently about ginger pills being very helpful w/ motion sickness, but didn't make a note of it and can't find it now.

Has anyone else tried this out? I think this would be my best bet, except maybe one of the wristbands. :confused3

I took Ginger pills for about a week prior to our trip. I really wanted to ride Mission Space but was a bit scared. I rode everything (even the teacups!) with no motion sickness at all. But you do have to start them a week or 10 days before your trip.

I recommend them.

For what it's worth, the TV show "MythBusters" did a segment on motion sickness remedies, and they did find that ginger works.

They found that the wristband did not.

Thanks so much MsLeFever and Judicial Tyranny. I had no idea I'd need to start the pills early and my DH won't know what to say when I tell him people on the DIS are into his MythBusting obsession. (Well, he's picking on my DIS habit, so I think it's only fair of me to rat him out for his MythBusting ways!) ;)

I have used Bonine for years. The active ingredient in Bonine is Meclizine. They usually have Meclizine tablets outside of sick bay if you've ever been on a cruise. Bonine is a non-drwosy formula. As with all medications, it might not effect you the same way it effects someone else. So your friend might want to try it out before you go. You should be able to purchase it in any drug store. I have found it in the aisle along side Pepto Bismal and also in the allergy aisle.

Motion sickness is triggered by different things for many people. I am extemely prone to motion sickness. I can get sick just watching someone in a rocking chair, but also quick stops and swoopy things make me sick as well. I found the descriptions of the rides in the Ultimate Guide very helpful in determining what I was going to ride and what I wasn't. I have been to the World a few times and I've had a blast each time, even though I didn't ride many of the "headliners". I go in line with the rest of my party and do the "child swap" on a ride I'm not going to do. This way, your friend will only be waiting a few minutes while you do your thing.

Actually, ginger is used to settle the stomach, so you should not notice any indigestion. My wife is very prone to motion sickness, and she takes ginger and meclizine together and never has a problem traveling.

I want to try ginger pills on our next trip ...........Does anyone know the dosage?

I am leaving Monday. Within the last few years I have developed motion sickness issues. I decided I didn't want to use Dramine/Bromine because I get so sleepy so easily plus they can effect my stomach. I purchased a homeopathic remedy called CanTravel. You can google it and find the seller. It is a bit pricey but it includes mint, ginger and a few other homeopathic items I can't recall off the top of my head. I will give a report about how I did after the trip. I am using it today for a long car ride so hopefully it will help me not get car sick. :thumbsup2

Where do you find the ginger? I have seen Ginger Root caplets by Rexall. Would that work? pixiedust:
