Pills for motion sickness? Can't remember the name...
What are the pills called (something that starts medel.....)for motion sickness? People said that they like it better than dramanine? I tried to do the search on it but it was disabled.

And where have you found it?
Has anyone had luck with vertigo?

I did post this on the Dis Tips board too.

My SIL has multiple sclerosis and takes meclazine for her vertigo.

I'm not sure you can just get a scrip for motion sickness, though I have never asked.

the generic name is meclazine and the brand name is Bonine. You can get Bonine over the counter at any pharmacy. It works great and NO DROWISNESS! I used it on our cruise two years ago and in WDW last year. You know I will be taking it for Mission Space in...

NINE DAYS!

Hope that helps!

Be aware that Bonine(meclazine) is billed as a LESS drowsey formula. Make sure you test it before you need it. It made me very drowsey. People recommneded I take it for a few days before the trip and i would get aclimated to the drowsey effect. I was still sleepy each day so I stopped taking it.

I just use the non drowsy version on Dramamine and works out fine for me. Started taking after my first go around on Star Tours. I now take it before I go to any amusement park nowadays.

DH and I took Bonine before we went on Mission:Space in Sept. No drowsiness and no side effects. Although after riding MS, I don't think we needed to take anything.

My understanding is meclizine is behind the counter...meaning you don't need a prescription but you need to ask the pharmacist for it? Sorry.. my Dh is a doctor so he usually brings mine home.

Bonnie is *much* more expensive than meclizing. I usually get 100 meclizine for like 10.00 where Bonnie is like 10 pills for 7.00. That's why I always get the meclizine...

To anyone who has used the Meclizine: Were you able to go on a motion simulator ride ride like Body Wars without feeling like you were going to toss your cookies or is that asking too much?

When we went about 5 years ago and did Body Wars and I felt ill for the rest of the day:tilt: :faint: :crazy2:

You should try Ginger. You can get it in pill form at any GNC. It was suggested to me on the Cruise board and it worked for me on two cruises now. I will be trying it before Mission Space in about 4 weeks.

The Meclizine I have comes in 25 mg doses. The suggested dose for vertigo is 50 mg (2 pills), but it will make you drowsy. It is really an antihistamine. I think it works because it knocks you out and you sleep through your misery.

So I don't think the answer is to take Meclizine in order to avoid motion sickness....

Also, Meclizine is the generic for Antivert, not Bonnie....

Bonine, Antivert, and also non-drowsy formula Dramamine are all meclizine. See: http://health.yahoo.com/health/drug/202343/overview

Meclizine can be bought in bulk without a prescription. I bought 25 mg chewable tablets (100 count) for $5.99 from Eckard drugstore and also from Walgreens here in Orlando. Neither had it in stock but ordered it for me and I picked it up the next day.

OOOH!!! I didn't know there was a chewable pill (or have I been swallowing my chewables? lol)!

Thanks for the clarification.... I just knew I was using the generic for Antivert...

Target is now selling Meclizine on the shelf right next to the Dramamine and Bonine. It comes in a 2 tone purple box, and is called Motion Sickness Relief. The pills are blister packed inside, and the 32 pill box cost about the same as the 8 pill package of Bonine. Not quite as cheap as when I got it in a big bulk bottle from behind the counter, but I only used half that bottle in 2 years anyway, since it had 100 pills in it.

You may want to consider looking into purchasing the Relief Band. I am a Private Pilot and used the device during my spin training. I am glad I found out about it from a fellow pilot because I would have had a hard time getting my license if I had to live with the violent motion sickness I was having. You wear it like a watch and it send tiny little electrical pulses to the medial nerve and disrupts the signal from the brain to your stomach. Quite cool actually. I am not a doctor (although I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night);) but the band works great for me at the parks. I wouldn't be able to handle RR or MS without it.
You can do a google search for it. I believe they have different models to use.

Hope this helps.

The Bonine is chewable, not sure about Dramamine non-drowsy. When I ordered the generic antivert (100 tablets) they were chewable too. I didn't ask for chewable but thats how they came. I'm not sure if yours were but I'm betting they were.

Happy Birthday Cat

I use ginger capsules every time I go to theme parks and it works wonderfully. Went on Mission to Space in October and felt great afterwards. I also use on plane and car rides. I can read in the car if I take them.

Also, drinking regular Coke helps because it contains ginger.

I went to my doctor last week and asked him for a prescription for motion sickness because I was going to Disney. He gave me a prescription for Transderm - Scop Patch which you put behind your ear and one patch lasts for 3 days. I sure hope it works because I want to be able to ride with my 12 year old!!

i just cant believe we have to take a pill to go on a ride. i plan on taking something and going on it late at night so if a do get sick i dont wreck my day at disney.

I think I'm gonna go with Bonine...bu I think I am going to carry a number of things...I heard Sea Bands work well too-they are like sweat bands with disks that rest on your pressure points...I've heard ginger works too...but I dont do well with the organic smell when you open bottles like that. *yuk*

Have any of you tried these things before you left? When did you do it? Long car ride?I wanna see how it will affect me prior to the trip...we will be doing 3 days land and 4 sea...so I really dont want to ruin it by being in my room the entire time!!!
Whats the difference between meclazine and bonine? I read the back of the bonine it has meclazine listed as its ingredient...
any insight?.

Thanks all!
