Motion sickness on newer attractions - advice appreciated!

Have you considered the scopolamine patch? It requires a prescription, but it's really very effective. I get so sleepy with both Dramamine and Bonine that it's not really much better than feeling sick--I'm pretty much out of commission and unable to function. The patch does not cause drowsiness, though there are other side effects, like dry mouth (this can be especially problematic in the summer) and dilation of the pupils. I have pretty severe motion sickness, but when I use the patch, I'm can ride literally anything without feeling sick. It's been a godsend for me.

Anyone with motion sickness issues have advice on these 3 rides?

I can do coasters fine but simulators are tough. Star Tours and Simpsons made me feel sick for an hour after. Soarin and FoP are barely manageable. Nothing else bothers me except the teacups if they spin too much.
Since this was merged with another thread, my subject was lost: I was asking about MMRR, RoTR, and Remy. Thanks!

I can do everything except Star Tours. FoP sometimes has a slight effect on me. I got halfway through Remy and couldn't wait for it to be over. I was really disappointed because(as a little chef, myself 😁 ) I had been looking forward to it since it was announced.
It was cute, but I won't do it again.

Same with my dh and he won't ride it ever again.
since that time he purchased these small patches that go behind the ear. one behind each ear. he says they help him in general in parks and plane ride there. idk the name but he got them on amazon

Yes! Here to second the use of motion sickness patches from Amazon. I am not usually prone to motion sickness but prefer to use them on FOP. My DH gets very motion sick, but with one was able to ride FOP twice. I do agree a lot of it is where you sit, and FOP and MFSR are so long that if you're uncomfortable and queasy it really feels like forever. If you go alone on MFSR, the cockpit is extra rocky so I would try to make sure you ride with friends if possible :)

ETA: Will add about MMRR and ROTR! MMRR has large screens and environmental effects, but you're not moving up and down in the car which may limit the likelihood of motion sickness. The car I rode in was very smooth and I was distracted by how cute the ride was. Have not rode Remy so I cannot provide a review. Without giving much away, ROTR is like a sampler of many different ride types except roller coasters. Each segment is pretty quick, so you may not have long enough to feel the effects of motion sickness. On the first page of this thread someone listed comfortability in percentages, and I agree with most of them.

Those patches are a prescription (scopalamine) in the US.

I'm based in the U.S. and I've bought them twice off of Amazon without a prescription. These use essential oils and do not have scopalamine, however they work great. (evidence is my DH who is very prone to motion sickness wore them on a cruise, small excursion boats, and FOP without issue) Search "MQ motion sickness patch," in case the link gets scrubbed: https://www.amazon.com/MQ-Motion-Si...lja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ&th=1.

yes, this is ours too

I’m heading back in November after a two-year hiatus. I have a tendency for motion sickness on some attractions.
We’re fortunate to be doing the VIP tour for first the time and am going with my grown sons as well as other younger family members (all 20’s & 30’s). We’ll be doing mostly headliners.

Thus I’m trying to figure out where some of the newer attractions sit in terms of motion sickness. I know this is extremely subjective by individual but I’m listing below the types of attractions I can and cannot do as well as the newer ones. If anyone has any thoughts or experience I’d appreciate it greatly!

I can do:
- smaller coasters (SDMT, Big Thunder Mtn, Space Mountain is a stretch tho!)
- Soarin
- test track
- toy story mania
-splash mtn

can’t do:

- FOP (worst experience ever for me, got super dizzy!)
- large coasters (ie RnR, Everest)
- Star Tours (the heavy video ones throw me off for some reason)

Given above, which newer attractions below should I try most to avoid, if any?

- ROTR
- Millenium Falcon
- Remy
- M&M railroad
- Slinky Dog Dash

I’m struggling between trying to push the envelope a bit, but I don’t want to ruin my day either. I took Dramamine before FOP and it didn’t help. I also can stay and chat with the guide during some attractions which I’ll enjoy as well.

Thanks for any thoughts! 😊

i can't do FOP or rock n roller coaster or everest or star tours...
so perhaps this will help..

slinky dog is easy for me....no problem at all
remy is easy (i did it multiple times in paris).

i haven't been on the others but my guess would be that millenium falcon will be a problem for both of us.
as for ROTR. It's my understanding there is one small section that may be a problem. I was told i'd be ok if i keep my eyes closed for that small section.

i have no clue about M&M railroad

My wife shares your struggle. No coasters, Star Tours (and Body Wars back in the day) are terrible for her, FoP was a terrible never again experience.

She was one and done on MMRR, never again.

Based on her experience there RotR is a no, the outcome could only be worse. The ride mechanism is the same as MMRR, with a small drop at the end.

Based on her struggles with Star Tours MFSR is a no, again the outcome can only be worse, for her at least.

While she doesn’t do coasters, she is ok with Splash. I consider SDD a small…er coaster, so based on your experience with small coasters that’s worth a try. I’d put SDD in that category of SDMT, a tweener, so if you can do SDMT then SDD should be ok.

Haven’t been on Remy yet and I’m not familiar with the ride mechanism so I can’t say on that.

MMRR - I was perfectly fine! Such a great ride too!
Remy - same as above!
ROTR - no issues at all
Smugglers Run - I was okay as a the gunner position, but did get a little woozy when watching the screen.

For the record, I feel sick on Star Tours.

ROTR and M&M Railroad - no issues. The attractions are almost all physical props and there aren't any crazy forces
Millenium Falcon - It's much better than Star Tours, but you are still in a simulator. Try being the engineer first.
Slinky Dog Dash - Like Big Thunder Mountain, but smoother. You should be fine. It's a much gentler coaster than people realize.
Remy - If you can do ROTR, you will also be OK on this one. My only concern is that there are more screens on this ride, but you are sitting still while the movies play

Other than meds and wristbands are there other strategies you find that help? Eating first, not eating first, hydration, meditation?
I really want to enjoy these rides without drugging myself to zombie State.

Also - I’m reconsidering the “easy” side of Mission Space but nervous. advice?

For the ones that are only mildly bothersome, I find chewing a strong mint gum helps. I've heard other people have used ginger candies and they've worked well.
After reading this thread, I'm debating whether or not to try Remy again as most don't seem to have issue with it. The glasses were really fogging up when I rode, so maybe the screens seemed more "off" than they usually are

One and done for DH on Mission Space and FOP—we didn’t even make it out the entire exit for FOP before he had to sit down against a wall. He is fine with any coaster,, including Everest and Slinky and ROR. He can do Soarin 2 times in a day max. We rode MMRR 3 times in an hour and he was fine. Smugglers Run he was the pilot with our daughter and did fine (maybe because he was focused on helping her more). The teacups and Astro Orbitor are in the “not even going to try” category. We go in 2 weeks and I hope he’s ok with Remy and ROTR.

I usually struggle with motion sickness and the only one that bothered me (besides Star Tours - that gets me every time) was FoP. However, I will say, I enjoyed the concept so much that I was very relaxed and I think that helped. At one point I felt a little queasy so I looked left at everyone else's feet and that helped for some reason!

I have severe motion sickness issues. Did Remy for the first time last week. Closed my eyes 90 percent of the time. Same for the Run Away Railroad. Rise is fine if I have not eaten. Millennium - I ride but take the third seat and just watch for the lights to light up so I can "shoot". No way can I look our the front window. Slinky, I am fine if I have not eaten and walk afterwards. Certainly could not ride back to back but don't always want to sit out. When I have gone solo, I do not even think about doing but when with others I do some. No Mission Space, no Rockin Coaster, no Space Mtn. no Soarin.

Hard to discuss without potentially spoiling anything for those that haven’t ridden….but I don’t understand the “almost all physical props” comment. While you are right that there isn’t much in terms of crazy forces (g forces, loops, spins, etc.), these rides are built on motion and screens. Maybe we didn’t ride the same rides?

I'm comparing something like Star Tours and FoP where you just sit in front of a screen the whole time, to something like Rise where you are moving through physical space and looking at 3d sets. I think the latter is much easier on people with motion sickness.
