Motion sickness on newer attractions - advice appreciated!

I get motion sick easily, and especially when screens are involved (the 360 degree movies are the worst). I start taking one Bonine per day the day before I leave for the trip and continue through one day after I return. If I do that consistently, I don’t have any issues. I could see where MMRR and Remy could cause issues because the feeling is more of a swaying back and forth, like being on a small boat in a big lake, but I didn’t have any issues since I was on Bonine.

Bonine works for me, Dramamine doesn’t do anything so maybe try some Bonine?

Is the Skyliner something you’ll ride? I need Bonine for it as the buckets have a slight sway in the wind and I was sick my first time after riding. Now I take my meds and have no issues.

Thanks, good to know. I thought it was the same ingredient.

Is Bonine sold over the counter in the U.S. or is it prescription only? I am from Canada and I haven't seen it here. My DH gets very motion sick so this would be very helpful for him.

I did the new Remy at the AP preview on Wednesday and was fearful about vertigo as I kept hearing it could be a problem. I did take precautionary Dramamine in the a.m. (preview was 12:00).

I found the ride cars extremely smooth (some say it's jerky...not for me). There is a tremendous amount of very quick action going on in the computer graphic screens and I got a little concerned so I took off the 3D glasses. I know I missed the 3D affect but I also knew I would later try the ride again WITH the glasses. I wasn't sick in the least and feel taking the glasses off was the right decision for me to try it the first time. I still understood basically what was going on and found it very cute, especially a few special affects that include the audience.

I definitely would like to ride it again even though Mickey's Runaway Railroad is still my favorite ride. And FOP which doesn't bother me if I consciously keep my head straight.

And no.....I do not ride the main nausea inducing rides such as Mission Space, etc etc etc. No way.

It’s available over the counter. Best wishes for fun for both of you at WDW.

I'm gonna tentatively guess Rat would bother you, at least a little. I have a friend that gets motion sick from screens and I'm going to caution her to watch a vid and see what she thinks. It's not the movement of the vehicle that would get you, IMO, it's the effect of the 3D and visuals on the screens that might bother you.

thanks for your review. I hear about a complete 360 spin at one point though and am worried it will set off my vertigo which has been getting worse with age. You were ok with the alleged spin? I’m Good on railway etc.

Honestly I was very worried when I kept hearing about extreme jerky spins and surprised how very smooth the cars were. The car might have once gone completely or close to completely around but so smooth I didn’t think about it. I’m speaking about when the cars AREN’T involved in the periodic graphics screen chaos. Then they move far quicker, them smooth etc etc. hard to explain.

When I got off I realized I didn’t need water and Altoids like I definitive do even after Big Thunder.

For me personally, taking off those glasses made me not have vertigo..

PS: Snow White ride’s side to side action doesn’t sit well at all with me.

Thanks for this thread! I'm the designated bench warmer in our family. I can't do anything spinning, 3D, some coasters. Knowing about the newer rides, I think I'll pass (I wear the patch to combat nausea). I'm sad about FOP. Thought I might try it, but now I think Ill pass.

I’m heading back in November after a two-year hiatus. I have a tendency for motion sickness on some attractions.
We’re fortunate to be doing the VIP tour for first the time and am going with my grown sons as well as other younger family members (all 20’s & 30’s). We’ll be doing mostly headliners.

Thus I’m trying to figure out where some of the newer attractions sit in terms of motion sickness. I know this is extremely subjective by individual but I’m listing below the types of attractions I can and cannot do as well as the newer ones. If anyone has any thoughts or experience I’d appreciate it greatly!

I can do:
- smaller coasters (SDMT, Big Thunder Mtn, Space Mountain is a stretch tho!)
- Soarin
- test track
- toy story mania
-splash mtn

can’t do:

- FOP (worst experience ever for me, got super dizzy!)
- large coasters (ie RnR, Everest)
- Star Tours (the heavy video ones throw me off for some reason)

Given above, which newer attractions below should I try most to avoid, if any?

- ROTR
- Millenium Falcon
- Remy
- M&M railroad
- Slinky Dog Dash

I’m struggling between trying to push the envelope a bit, but I don’t want to ruin my day either. I took Dramamine before FOP and it didn’t help. I also can stay and chat with the guide during some attractions which I’ll enjoy as well.

Thanks for any thoughts! 😊
Have you tried sea bands? They are bands that use a pressure point on your wrist to help with motion sickness. I use them all the time and they help. TBH I haven't used them to go on the rides but they help on the airplane and train. Maybe they are worth a try for you.

We will be visiting next month and do not have any motion sickness issues that we are aware of but are not fans of roller coasters or anything with a drop. We are fine on Test Track, FOP, Star Tours, MS Green, and Soarin’. This will be our first time trying the new GE rides we know we will ok on Remy went on it in Paris and we are also spending a few days at Universal so are thinking we should maybe have either the patch or Bonine. My DH is on a lot of medicines for various health issues. He asked his primary care provider which is best for him and he said he would be fine with either the patch or pill it is up to him. Which do recommend for us?

I have a problem with anything that spins. i break out in a sweat every time I see those darned teacups!!!! I can do rollercoasters fine, just keep me away from those teacups! (bad experience). can't do Mission Space either. I also can't do anything that goes backwards, like Expedition Everest. So I already know I'll be avoiding Guardians of the Galaxy. Oh, no, no, no...... :crazy2:

Thanks, I’m on the fence about it at this point 😬 Since we are staying at Boardwalk Villas I might try it sometime near the end of a day (towards the end of our trip) and see how I do. Liked someone’s suggestion of taking off the 3D glasses if need be. It doesn’t sound like enough spinning to be bothersome to me, but some videos have done me in in the past.

I actually haven’t. Might be worth a try, Tks.

Anyone with motion sickness issues have advice on these 3 rides?

I can do coasters fine but simulators are tough. Star Tours and Simpsons made me feel sick for an hour after. Soarin and FoP are barely manageable. Nothing else bothers me except the teacups if they spin too much.

Your question has been merged with a current thread discussing this topic. There is a lot of helpful information in the posts above yours.

I would agree with previous suggestion of bonine. It is OTC and doesn't tend to cause drowsiness as Dramamine can.
I almost never have motion sickness, but the Simpsons nearly did myself and my wife in. It was a one and done.

Definitely do not do Millenium Falcon. Just got back from a trip— that ride wiped me out completely (although it was amazing). And for what it’s worth, I don’t have problems with any of the other rides you mention- but MF is in a different class for me! Give ROTR a try— I don’t think that one is bad for motion sickness and it’s incredible!

Agree with this! 10 seconds in and it was so bad I just had to close my eyes for the rest. The movement itself isn't that bad.
