Motion sickness on newer attractions - advice appreciated!

I’m heading back in November after a two-year hiatus. I have a tendency for motion sickness on some attractions.
We’re fortunate to be doing the VIP tour for first the time and am going with my grown sons as well as other younger family members (all 20’s & 30’s). We’ll be doing mostly headliners.

Thus I’m trying to figure out where some of the newer attractions sit in terms of motion sickness. I know this is extremely subjective by individual but I’m listing below the types of attractions I can and cannot do as well as the newer ones. If anyone has any thoughts or experience I’d appreciate it greatly!

I can do:
- smaller coasters (SDMT, Big Thunder Mtn, Space Mountain is a stretch tho!)
- Soarin
- test track
- toy story mania
-splash mtn

can’t do:

- FOP (worst experience ever for me, got super dizzy!)
- large coasters (ie RnR, Everest)
- Star Tours (the heavy video ones throw me off for some reason)

Given above, which newer attractions below should I try most to avoid, if any?

- ROTR
- Millenium Falcon
- Remy
- M&M railroad
- Slinky Dog Dash

I’m struggling between trying to push the envelope a bit, but I don’t want to ruin my day either. I took Dramamine before FOP and it didn’t help. I also can stay and chat with the guide during some attractions which I’ll enjoy as well.

Thanks for any thoughts! 😊

My estimates based on your above lists:
- ROTR - 70% OK
- Millenium Falcon - 0% OK
- Remy - 90% OK
- M&M railroad - 90% OK
- Slinky Dog Dash - 25% OK

Ha ha, love the %ages! I had been searching on the Boards over the past few weeks. The Millennium Falcon doesn’t surprise me as had seen someone warning about that, and the 3 I was planning to try were ROTR, M&M and maybe SDD. The only one that surprised me is Remy. I think I recently saw a woman post saying it was the worst motion sickness she had ever experienced. LOL, so hard to know. 🥴😬☺️

Thanks so much for the detailed response, and I’ll look into Remy a bit more. It does look adorable.

I'm pretty sure you'd be fine on SDD, given the other coasters you are good on. I would even say it's less likely to cause motion sickness than space.

I always have this worry too so I completely understand where you're coming from! I haven't been on any of the other rides yet but the millennium falcon is on my "never do" list! I hate screens (but FoP was fine?) so I'm even a little worried about the new rides like remy, but I do plan on trying them. I think I'd be able to survive.

Definitely do not do Millenium Falcon. Just got back from a trip— that ride wiped me out completely (although it was amazing). And for what it’s worth, I don’t have problems with any of the other rides you mention- but MF is in a different class for me! Give ROTR a try— I don’t think that one is bad for motion sickness and it’s incredible!

Thanks, MF is out then! I just went back and found the thread on Remy that I referred to. It sounds like it’s the spinning of the car that does some people in. I don’t have a problem with Toy Story or Buzz when the cars spin halfway around on occasion however. But I couldn’t do something spinning around and around (like tea cups etc). What was your experience on Remy in terms of spinning?

My husband gets motion sickness similar to the rides which are problematic for you.

Remy (Paris) is no problem for him. He cannot do teacups or Alien Swirling Saucers (new).

My husband would rate Slinky at 50%. Like you, he’s fine on the smaller coaster. He says Slinky is a step up, but worth it. Better to do daytime and in good weather.

I call it ‘virtual vertigo’, not motion sickness.

I’m fine with roller coasters, but have issues with Star Tours.

I was fine on Smugglers Run….until sitting in the Pilot’s seat.

So funny! I am exactly like you in what rides are my limits. I have not been on any of the new ones you mention. Slinky Dog Dash and Millennium Falcon were open during our last trip but I wasn’t comfortable riding either one of them. I did try FOP that trip but I had to close my eyes for most of it! On our next trip I will go on Remy, ROTR, and M&M railroad. I think we can both enjoy those rides! LOL

ROTR - might be fine. The only bit I would be worried about would be the end, in the small capsule with the video, but it's a lot shorter than Star Tours or FOP so you might be ok.
Millenium Falcon - probably not. It's similar to Star Tours but a little jerkier because people in the cabin with you are controlling it and are...usually not great drivers.
Remy - if you can do Toy Story Mania, then Remy should be a breeze. There's some movement but not as fast/spinny as TSM, there are screens but they're further away and there's no up/down movement like FOP.
M&M - don't know, haven't been on it yet.
Slinky Dog - I suspect it might be in between 'large' and 'small' by your definition. It doesn't go backwards or anything like Everest, but it does have a bit of a steep hill. However, its sight lines are good which I find helps (in contrast to Space Mountain)...and if you can do the big hill on Splash, then I think you'd be ok.

Remy doesn't spin all that much. It's definitely not like Teacups, and it's less force of spin than Toy Story.

I was going to say this about MFSR. In the other two positions I'm spending so much time focusing on the buttons that I'm not looking at the screen much. Totally different from the pilot.

Toy Story Mania and the Tea Cups don't bother me, but Remy did a little - and I took Bonine beforehand and wore seabands after reading a thread here about the ride & motion sickness. (I never do either of those things for Toy Story Mania or the Tea Cups).

I agree. I get motion sickness but have never been the pilot on MFSR. I am fine on it. My younger daughter and husband were pilots our first ride. They usually are fine on rides, but they were in bad shape coming off it. Next tone all of us chose not to be pilots are we were fine.

I usually feel bad coming off Slinky though. And I always take some motion sickness medication. So be careful of that one.

My list of can't do's is similar to yours except I can't do Space Mountain. It is the up and downs that I have trouble with, and Slinky Dog has ups and downs. But if you can do Space Mountain than I think you could do Slinky Dog.

RotR is a definite do. There is one very short place that I close my eyes for, but otherwise, it is fine.

Millennium Falcon is a 100% no for me.

Remy is very cute. I took Dramamine for that one and I was fine.

M&M railroad is similar to Remy but with a lot less motion. This one is fine for me.

I can't do FoP, even with Dramamine. It is just too much motion.

Haven't done Remy yet so can't speak to that but:

I can do BTM, Splash, SDMT but can not do RRC, EE or Space Mountain. Space Mountain and RRC are just because they are so rough they hurt me bad. The backwards part of EE makes me a little sick so I close my eyes. Slinky Dog I love, especially at night. If you can do SDMT and BTM you should be fine with it.

I can not do Star Tours, can do FoP but I'm uncomfortable the entire time and just wanting it to be over and usually am a little unsteady when I get off. It's a combination of the way they make you sit so close to the handle bars and the screen. I can do Soarin with no problem RoTR is no problem, there are some jerky parts but really not a whole lot of screen time. MF, I can do with no problem, I'm not a fan though so I don't unless my son wants to and it's just the two of us. M&M I can do but I'm not a huge fan. First, I loved GMR so am bitter. Second, there are portions that are pretty jerky. The screens are no problem though.

Thanks, and yes, long live Great Movie Ride. Very sad! 😢
