motion sickness in the air

My daughter, who gets every kind of motion sickness, used sea bands on a cruise we went on last year. She did not get sick once. Now she uses them for all travel and has not got motion sick since.

I always use generic bonine!! I get it from the pharmacist but do not need a prescription. They are very cheap and effective and I experienced no side effects. In fact, after the first day I took 1/2 a pill each day before we left for the parks because even riding on the busses made me motion sick and I never felt tired or nervous and I didn't need to worry every time I got on a ride that I would get sick. The sea bands sound great but I'd be too afraid to try them for the first time on a trip to Disney, what if they don't work for everyone?
 

I used to have to fly frequently on business and I have had motion sickness all my life. I've tried the center of the wing/aisle seat thing, but for me window seat/bulkhead or closer to front helps me. I do better as long as I can see the horizon. So when the plane banks, I just find the horizon on the other side. The worst for me is approach for landing, I hate the banking and dropping sensation all at the same time. I have to take non-drowsy dramimine. I tried the seabands, but since I didn't entirely trust them, I cut my regular dosage of dramimine in half. I could tell the difference, so I went back to taking my regular dose of dramimine. Spinning doesn't seem to bother me nearly as bad, especially if I have something to focus on, yet still be aware of the movement. I survived the teacups - but haven't been brave enough to try the Mountains or ToT. I'm going to try some this year! but only with drugs!:tongue:
 
I used to get motion sick every time I even looked at a car or especially a plane! After trying all the conventional medicines I read somewhere to take Ginger (the herbal supplement) and have not been sick since I started taking it. I usually take 1000 mg about 2 hours before traveling and every hour or two while traveling. I first used it on a college choir trip to Mexico that consisted of several plane trips and hours of van rides on BUMPY roads. I was one of the few who didn't get sick!! It surely wouldn't hurt to try it!
 
Thanks to all for your replies. I have some time ( we aren't going until November) to decide what to try. I think I am going to try the seabands first and bring dramimine with me.

MBethel, can you tell me more about the Ginger supplement?

I found out about ginger through a natural remedy book. It was listed as being used to soothe nausea and motion sickness. I figured it wouldn't hurt to try it so I just went to the local Walmart and bought a straight ginger supplement in the same area as vitamins. I've read that you can get it in candy form but have never tried it that way. I have found that I have to take them before I travel. If I wait until my stomach bothers me it's too late for them to do any good, but if I take them every couple of hours during travel then I don't seem to have any trouble.
 
Wow, I think I'll head to the health food store too. How far in advance should I start taking them? Days before travel or just hours?
 
The earliest I've ever started taking ginger is the day before I traveled although I usually take two capsules a couple hours before I head to the airport. Then I take 1000mg every couple hours until I'm at my destination. It's been amazing for me since I tried Dramamine and Bonine and they either made me sicker or incapable of traveling on my own.:D
