Motion sickness- FJ vs transformer vs Simpson

Hi- I get terrible motion sickness- cant even ride splash mountain without Dramamine. BUT when I take the medicine I can ride anything once with the exception of the Simpsons ride or Tower of Terror ( even with meds I get sick on them)
?- how does Forbidden Journey, and Transformer compare to the Simpsons ride? I don't want to ruin my day (which again- I get motion sick easily)- but I Libe thrill rides and don't want to miss out either. Are these simulators like Simpsons and Star Wars (which I can't do)- or more like design you own coaster in Epcot?-- or are they like Spider-Man- (also now a skip for me).

Transformers is the same ride system as Spider-Man.

FJ has the same ride vehicle as Sum of all Thrills in Epcot, except it moves along a track and also includes screens.

Oh boy- sounds like I should skip transformers and proceed with caution on FJ..or I could save transformers for when I am ready to leave for the night- that may work (but is it worth it)- motion sickness stinks! Thanks for info.

I got more sick on FJ than any other ride. I did spider man no problems and felt sick on star tours, but FJ really knocked me out of commission!!!

Hi! I took dramamine every morning for my last vacation to universal (6-13: 6-18) I already knew from last year I wouldn't be able to ride the simpsons (i rode it last sept. w/out dramamine and felt really sick) Last trip FJ was the first ride I rode and it threw me for a loop for the rest of the day. I should of went to first aid and got something but I was trying to be tough....I just felt sicker and sicker with each motion ride...
I loved going in Hogwarts castle so I wasn't going to let that stop me this time... so I took the dramamine and with the early entry, it being the first ride it worked out well. Having said that, on FJ only with it moving so quickly and mostly the parts with Harry and the Quidditch area outside it still made me a little nauseous, so during those parts I would look down at my knees to take me away from the "story". but being the first ride I rode and really wanting to do it (more than simpsons) was worth it to me.. that was just my experience

I don't get motion sickness, so can't give you personal info. However, my husband who loves any amusement park ride, and has never, ever gotten sick on any ride in his life, has trouble with Forbidden Journey. The first time he rode it he was off for the rest of the day. Now I buy meclizine just for the days we are at Universal. I give him a meclizine the night before and than another in the morning. He can now ride it, but no more than twice in a row, before he has to sit out. I can ride it over and over with no problem and do so, using the single rider line. However, my big, strong, tough, husband whom I have ridden amusement park rides with for over 35 years can't. Again this man never gets ill on a ride, but for some reason FJ throws him for a loop. He can ride Star Tours, Spiderman, the Simpsons, or any roller coaster over and over, and he loves Sum of all Thrills over at Epcot, but not FJ. He rides it for me, but does not like it.

The part on FJ that used to bother him the most was at the very beginning where you went through the chimneys, but they have since changed that part to just a fog/mist looking area, so he does OK there. Now the part that bothers him is the quidditch part. We were down there right after they took the chimney part out and as we were getting off, I asked the CM why they changed it. He said too many people were getting motion sickness from that part, so they changed it.

I have a somewhat bad problem with motion sickness (got so sick in a car one time I almost kissed the ground when we finally stopped!). I was so concerned about motion sickness on our trip that I used a triple-prong plan of attack. Bonine in the morning, Motion Ease before every ride (stuff stinks, but it really helps), and ginger gum while riding. The only ride where I felt ill enough to matter was Star Wars (neglected the Motion Ease and gum on that one, didn't the second time and was fine). I did ride Forbidden Journey and Spiderman with no issues, but did not Simpsons.

I am wondering if I should do Bonnie in the morning and try some Dramamine mid morning- I s hate the feeling of motion sickness.. But also hate the "missing the good stuff " feeling. Anyone try the bracelets? I am so torn! Maybe hitting FJ at night- (just in case)-?!?!?

I seem to have problems with the same rides as you.

FYi most (not all) of the gift shop counters have a drug box, just ask for what you want and they will look.

FJ- I am okay with the stationary area in the ride it is the screens that get me, I try to look to the side of the set and not focus on the screens. If riding with someone they may be able to tap you to open your eyes after the screen sections. FYI the Pepto bismol at this location is pills you SWALLOW, they are super nasty when you chew them, trust me I know. I thought all the Pepto bismol pills were chewable, nope.

I don't get as queasy on transformers as I do on spider man,, but I have learned to focus in the ride vehicle when it starts to look like we are falling. I think it is because transformers is so lifelike/real feeling.

Careful on the spinning sections on cat in the hat and MIB, I can only ride once. I tried Simpsons again this time, bad bad bad. There is no way to survive this if you have motion sickness issues. But the Flamming Moe seemed tho actually help a bit, I guess the citrus and fizz?

As for the bands, I bought them (3 sets). They do nothing for me. I am Pooh sized and they were really tight. Maybe I didn't have them in the right spot. We tried them in different spots on different days one trip. I have never tried the patches. I will admit I buy the less drowsy Dramamine before every trip but usually forget to take it, thats why in know some gift shops have the drug boxes and some don't. I am usually feeling crappy when I get around to asking at the gift shops to buy more.

Good luck and have fun, even though I can't ride all the rides anymore I still enjoy going.

Ps. This year we did they magic show in US, it was fun check it out if you have time. It's not a pressure sell but they do sell the items and sets if you want. I'm glad we did it this time. Part of our try something new trip.

I remember ripping them off and throwing them down the steps as I ran down the hall to go grace the porcelain god again....those things must turkey be good for nothing! MIB I can ride once with my Bonnie- heck- I can even ride e hulk once-- the Simpsons- NO!!!

I am going in August and going to,spend two days at Universal. Maybe the first day I will push my luck a little knowing I have the second day. I will do FJ last. I think I'll let my sister and DD try transformers first. My sister lives Spider-Man so she should be able to tell me if she thinks I can "do it" or not.

We're visiting from the UK in August and both myself and my DH get motion sickness, I haven't heard of Dramamine, is it available to buy at Walmart, Target or Walgreens over the counter. We have ridden FJ, Simpsons, Spiderman and Transformers in California and always feel ill afterwards even though we have taken travel tablets purchased in the UK. Thanks in advance

Both Dramamine and Bonine are available over the counter - at Walmart, target and drug stores. You can also ask at some of the people working the registers in the parks. It is important to take the medicine half hour to hour before going on the rides. For me- once I feel bad- it is too late and there is no turning back.

does anyone know if those over the counter meds have the same filler that meclizine contains?

I honestly don't know what is "in" them. Dramamine gives me a headache if I take it on empty stomach but even that is way better than motion sickness.

DW said she might get a little sleepy in the late afternoon but what's the difference than if she's not taking them? Lol

Bonine works for me most of the time. Spider man - no problem. MiB - no problem. Mission to Mars (full ride) - no goodski.

Without Bonine I can't do motion simulators at all: but I have no trouble with Roller Coasters! I once got so sick on Star Tours that I haven't even had the courage to try it with Bonine (this was on a pre-bonine trip).

For my Sep trip coming up, my doctor prescribed the scopolamine patch...I hear it is incredibly effective, but many people don't like it's side effects. But I am going to try Star Tours with the patch and will let yall know how it turns out.

For those who like Bonine - the ONLY active ingredient in Bonine is Meclizine. Go to the pharmacy at Walmart (or use Amazon) and ask for generic Meclizine. You get a bottle of 100 tablets for around 10 bucks! It normally takes the pharmacy a couple of days to get it in, but the savings are well worth it. Plus, the pharmacist typically gives you a wink or a thumbs up, as they know you have done your homework...
