Looking for opinions from other people who have motion sickness, take Dramamine, and ride Mission Space. Is this doable, or will I feel sick from riding it? Also, would love to hear what people think about the Dinosaur ride at AK. Thanks :)

Mission Space should only affect you if you are sensitive to spinning. You can barely feel the spinning sensation (unless you close your eyes or turn your head), however if this upsets you, best not to try. If leaning back in a fast spinning teacup would send you over the edge, then skip it for sure!

Dinosaur is bumpy and has many twists and turns and one "drop." The phsychological aspect is worse, as much is in complete darkness.

I am a big chicken when it comes to Mission: Space.

I hemmed and hawed before our January trip, and in the end I was just too scared to try it. Mostly from reading reports here!! I was so worried that one of us would feel sick, and stay sick for the whole day, that we skipped it. Now DH has seen M:S on the planning video and the Travel Channel and he says he was "robbed" since we didn't ride it. I see M:S in my future, for better or for worse!

We rode Dinosaur (right after breakfast, as a matter of fact) and it was fine. It is jerky, but I have a bad back and I was fine. No big deal. I didn't think it was scary and it didn't make me motion sick.

I had no problems last year riding it after taking dramamine and I was VERY nervous. I was totally fine. And that was after eating fish and chips!

DH does not do well on spinning rides. He rode MP in October and said if it had been 5 seconds longer he would have been sick. He now sits this one out! Unfortunately, this is one of those things where you don't know how you will react until its over! I do know that on Saturday I was sitting in the shade resting a sore foot while DH took the kids on Test Track. A couple and their two boys were there too. That poor man was absolutely shell shocked from Mission Space. He could barely walk and was just laying there with his head on his wife's lap. I felt so sorry for those two little boys because I am thinking that their Epcot day was over. Another lady was there too and said she had been sitting there for over an hour feeling sick as well. All I can tell you is that I notice the lines are never very long for Mission Space! On Saturday, myself and my children walked on it at around 3:00 but the standby for Test Track was 75 minutes. Even with fastpass it took my husband and kids 40 minutes to ride that one.

I rode MS last May. I felt a little queasy after the ride. I wen't back to the hotel, took a 2 hr. nap while my DH & DD went to the pool. I felt great after I woke up. Needless to say, I will not ride MS again. As for Dinosaur...I LOVE it! It is one of the best rides at WDW!!! :goodvibes

I can't go on Motion Simulators or things like the tea cups....it just throws me off and gives me that kind of throat/head nasuea (you can only know what I mean if you have experienced this) anyway I then read about the over the counter drug Bonnine (spelling?) and thought I would try that and had read what everyone said about just looking straight ahead and not taking your eyes of the screen...so I popped my pills and we went on (walked on no wait, gotta love Sept crowds) anyway after all the hype, pills and worry for the very first time in all the years i have been going to WDW, I was dissapointed beyond belief (just my opinion and we all are entitled to one) it was so boring and unexciting, I would have rather gone on those boring boat rides at AK that only lasted about 2 mins LOL...plus the pills made me very tired..but if you follow the stare ahead rules they say it works...

Just keep your eyes open and look straight ahead and you should be fine!

I rode Mission Space when it very first opened and I swore that I would never ride it again. I didn't get sick or anything, but I didn't enjoy the sensation and I felt a little disoriented for about an hour afterwards. HOWEVER, we were at Epcot this past weekend and I was feeling a little brave so I decided to give it another try since my poor husband really wanted to go on it. Much to my surprise, I was perfectly fine! I absolutely think they've toned it WAY down. Does anyone know for sure? I might have just been better prepared this time. Like the person above me said - keep your eyes open at all times and look straight ahead!! I might not have done that the first time. Anyway though, I just wanted to share that I really think they've toned the ride down!

So that you know where I am coming from, I will tell you that with or without dramamine I refuse to ride any spinning rides; I haven't been on the teacups for over 10-15 years. I do like roller coasters, altho those are even getting harder for me to ride if they go upside down. I also enjoy Star Tours like rides. I read posts for months and debated endlessly whether to go on MS. I was very concerned about MS because it creates its effect by spinning (it's basically a big centrifuge). Anyway, I had taken dramamine that morning and did not go on it on a full stomach. I made sure to look straight ahead at the screen and tried to "get into" the simulation. I enjoyed it very much! The best part of the ride is actually the very beginning. I think the key is to stay focused on the screen right in front of you.

I felt a little odd after it was over, but not sick or anything. I think it really helps if you can distract yourself by concentrating on the ride and the screen in front of you and not thinking about what your body is doing (and not looking at your fellow passengers). I also should say that I grew up in the heyday of the space race and always wanted to be an astronaut, so maybe that made it easier for me. I did go on it again, but not for several hours.

My DW is very much like me and she was OK too. I say give it a try.

I get queasy on spinning rides but I really wanted to try this ride. I took bonine that morning(probably 2 hrs before we actually rode it) and went ahead and tried it. I was fine! I felt mildly "off" for about 20 mins afterwards but nothing to worry about and I was feeling myself again very quickly. The bonine did not make me tired at all. The kids and DH rode with no meds and no problems at all for them. Guess we all have different sensitivities.

I can't ride things that spin and get motion sick, but I had heard so much about M:S that I was determined to ride anyway. I took travel sickness pills about 30 minutes before riding, but got sick anyway. Even though I won't ride it again, it was a neat ride and I'm glad I rode it even though I got sick...so I say to take the dramamine and ride it anyway.

My mother-in-law comes with us on our trips and is one of the most excited people in the world when it comes to WDW. Her only problem is with motion sickness. She takes pills to be able to fly with us. At the parks, she normally doesn't eat too much early in the day and always takes her pills. The first part of the day is when we go all out and hit all of the bigger rides, often over and over. She has not had problems with getting sick and goes on everything with us. It is kingd of funny because everytime she goes to eat something she asks if there are any big rides in the next hour.

Took Bonine - Went on Mission Space. Was not sick or queasy but it took me about an hour to feel like myself again, I just felt "off". Glad I tried it but unlikely to go again.

Love Dinosaur, no problems. Did not take Bonine or Dramamine, etc. It's a fun and awesome ride, a bit jerky and bumpy, that's all.

I was pregnant when we went last and DH told me to avoid it in the future. I wouldnt take Dramamine because it knocks me out and I dont want to be out of it or tired for the rest of the day. I get carsick, turns and twists get me. DH said the only saving grace I would have is that they are blowing cold air in your face. Any ride with sick bags on the ride is enough to keep me off!

We were there on Thurs. DH and DS's (13, 9) rode Mission Space. The DS(13) was fine. DH and DS(9) did not actually get sick but were not themselves for about 3 hours afterwards. It really ruined the rest of our day. We had gone to MK in the morning and went to Epcot Midday. We were planning on finishing up at MK in the evening when crowds were tamer. Needless to say my poor DS(9) did not want to do any more rides as he was afraid he would get sick. DH who will go on most any ride with kids said he would never ride it again.

My DD(16) and I did the same thing. DD felt the same way as cruisnfamily, I on the other had got very  sick and had to go to first aid for an hour to rest. While I was resting DH and DD went on rides and had fun. I will never do MS again.

I do love the Dinosaur ride, no problems with this one.

Why take drugs you may not need? We travel and cruise a lot and we swear by Relief Bands (http://www.reliefband.com/main.html) . My wife and daughter used to get motion sick all the time, especially on simulator type rides (and cruises) until we found these.

Note that these AREN'T those little elastic bands (called sea bands) with balls that you get at Walmart (we didn't have much success with those). Relief Bands are electronic "wristwatch-looking" things that are the ONLY FDA approved device for motion sickess and nausea.

The advantages over drugs are:

1. No side effects
2. Only use it if you need it
3. You can use it AFTER you get symptoms
4. It works incredibly fast (within a few minutes)
5. You can dial up just as much relief as you need.

These things are fantastic and well worth the price.

There is really no way to tell how you will react until you try it. If you are prone to getting sick on spinning rides, you will probably be prone to getting sick on Mission Space. If Bonine or Dramamine have helped before on spinning rides, then they should help with MS.

My personnal experience...
I get sick on roller coasters and spinning rides despite trying numerous different type of relief. Mission Space sounded so cool I had to try it even though I knew there was a good possibility I would get sick. I took Bonine in the morning about 1 hour before getting to the park. At park openning we got FP for MS and then did Test Track. By the time we were done with TT, our FP time was open and we did MS. Well, I loved the ride but I'm glad it ended when it did as I could feel myself getting progressively queasy as the ride continued. I had to sit with DS (he was fine) on the bench in the hallway you exit into for about 20 minutes - heavy sweating, queasy, headache but I did get to keep my breakfast. After that we went and got a drink and snack and I felt better but it probably took 2-3 hours before feeling "normal" again. I'm glad I did it for the experience but I will not do it in the future. At least I can say been there, done that.
