Motion sickness concerns - 2 types, help?

I get motion sick from watching IMAX movies (I feel so goofy even saying that!). I LOVE roller coasters, no problems, don't like teacups if they're spinning fast & constantly but they're otherwise fine. I haven't had any other motion simulator type rides recently to remember how they affect me.

Coupled with also a fear of heights (I swear I think of myself as a theme park lover, but now I sound like I can't do anything!) I know to avoid Soarin' but am not sure about any other rides that are really motion simulators rather than rides. We're going to all 4 parks. I really think my problem is with motion simulator-type stuff vs actual movement.

Rides for me to potentially avoid?

Also 2 of my kids don't often get motion sick, but did pretty badly when riding in the mountains in the back seat of a van. Any others have experience like this & how it translates to rides?

Avoid Mission Space at Epcot. I rode the Orange side a couple of years ago. I very rarely get motion sickness, but after this ride I was miserable for about 4 hours. I have since ridden the Green side several times with no issues at all, but I suggest you avoid this ride all together!!!

Last October I got super motion sick on Star Tours. So that might be one you want to avoid? Along with the Orange Side of Mission Space. Also, if you do get motion sick they do have Dramamine in first aid for free, just in case you need to get some.

Those who suspect they may get motion sick, do you take Dramamine before or after you feel it?

I take Bonine (it's non drowsy) every morning on trips, and I don't feel any motion sickness.

I have the same issue - avoid Star Tours!

I can do Soarin and really enjoy it except I close my eyes when we are going through the "city" area and open them again for the Disney part.

I get terrible motion sickness,, must take Dramamine before every flight, I always take it on the day I go to Epcot for test track and soarin, and Hollywood studios for star tours, as long as I take the Dramamine, I am fine.

I pass on all motion rides at mk, did space mtn. . 36 years ago and vowed never!!!!!! To do it again!!!!

I get terrible motion sickness- can't even do the movie in Canada. Also watch out for parts of philharmagic in magic kingdom...

I am affected by the motion simulators. I take Dramamine or bonine before going to the parks and have no problem with anything other than Everest. Have vowed not to ride it ever again.

I know, strange place to ask, but since everyone is asking, does the Green side of Mission:Space move around too much for someone with heart/back problems or is it pretty tame? I've only ridden the Orange side before.

I have significant back and neck problems and only ride green team. I have done orange but I find green to be great and don't feel like I am missing the ride. Unlike Star Tours or some others, it is not bumpy or jolting. My sons fav so we ride it many times per day on each Epcot day.

I get HORRIBLE motion sickness, and I take Meclizine (generic Bonine - a 100 ct. bottle is about $5.00 - ask for it at the pharmacy counter. It's NOT prescription, but they keep it behind the counter) beginning a week before vacation, and all during our trip. However, I still avoid rides I know will make me sick; specifically, Mission:Space and Star Tours. The last time we went to WDW, I also got sort of sick on ToT, because it dropped us about 7-8 times. DH said I looked pretty green when I walked off the ride...lol. I get motion sickness if I even turn my head too fast.

Most of the big ones have been mentioned but I'd like to also mention (and don't laugh) Captain EO. The combination of the video + the moving seats can mess me up just as bad as Star Tours.

**This**. I buy a bottle of generic meclizine(same med as Bonine, but MUCH cheaper) from Amazon. My DH and I take one every morning on our vacations at WDW. I then don't have to worry about having motion sickness for the rest of the day.

Lol!! I was on another thread where people were talking about the "big brother watching every move" aspect of magic bands recently. One poster specifically said they would be mad of they ever got marketing to the effect of "we noticed you went into XX store on 6/15 and browsed for 2hours without buying. . . " and didn't want Disney watching her that way.

WELL maybe I have to worry about DISboards' "big brother" tactics! Until this thread, I had only ever heard of Dramamine, not Bonine, and I've been building my packing list. . . Lo and behold, a Bonine sample arrived in the mail today!

Maybe if I start posting about luxury cars, a new Jaguar will appear next ;):rotfl2:

I use the Transdermal Scop patch. It's a prescription you get from your doctor. A patch the size of a dime that goes behind your ear and you change it every 3 days. Great stuff!

You sound similar to me. I take meclizine as well. I take it every night before going to bed starting the night before we leave (just in case of a bumpy flight). I know they say non drowsy, but I still feel better doing it this way. Mission space is the only ride I avoid (which is easy for me because I really don't care for it). Star tours would bother me if I wasn't on my meds.
