Can anyone recommend something for motion sickness that can be purchased in Canada before we leave? Also, looking for something that won't make me drowsy. Any advice on what rides to absolutely avoid? Thank you!

When we dive I take Bonine. Doesn't make me drowsy and works well. The trick is to take the first one the night before, then take another the next morning and every morning there after. I can't take Dramamine, it makes me sleepy and sleepy and 100 feet under water don't go well together.

My husband also swears by Bonine for motion sickness , and takes it in the morning before we head to the park . It’s important to take any of these meds as directed. They will prevent motion sickness, but they aren’t effective if you take after you are already feeling nauseated.
Last we checked Bonine can NOT be found in Canada as you asked . But its so much better than what we can get here, we order it to be delivered once we are there or stop at a Walmart / Target etc .

Thanks for your suggestions! I checked and Bonine is not sold in Canada anymore, but I might be able to order from Amazon. I haven't tried sea bands before. Do they really work?

My whole family used them on there cruise and my son used them when he would get car sick. They do work.

As far as ride avoidance, what kind of rides make you motion sick? Sometimes it is violent motion that sets people off, for others it is a disconnect between sight and inner ear. My DW suffers that later; she can't ride on any of the older simulator rides because what she sees does not match what her inner ear perceives. Interestingly she is fine on the more modern simulators even though they are much more thrilling; so FOP is fine as are the Harry Potter rides at USF/IOA. She has no issues at all with coasters or other motion rides. She is also a lousy navigator as she can't look at a map in the car without feeling ill.

For me, the worst ride for motion sickness is Star Tours. I also use Bonine on cruises. I buy it once in the USA.

My family uses Bonine as well, and it's consistently effective for us. It is also sold under its generic name, Meclizine, and under Dramamine "24 hour formula."

It tends to work particularly well with people whose nausea is related to inner ear-eyesight discrepancies. (I also use it for ear-infection-related vertigo.)

It doesn't make us sleepy like other remedies do, but we avoid taking it in the daytime just to be safe. Since it's effective for 24 hours, we take it at bedtime, so any minor additional sleepiness happens at night. Do be aware that one should limit alcohol consumption while taking this medicine, as it amplifies the affects of alcohol.

I'm not exactly sure what causes my motion sickness. Maybe it's related to the inner ear? I'll even get motion sick playing video games! Usually when there is a lot of movement. I have avoided rides and roller coasters for years, but would like to see what I can enjoy at Disney with my family.

I use seabands, ginger gravol and bought some meclizine from amazon. Are we talking Disney rides? Star tours, primeval whirl are the worst for me, oh and teacups. Most of the rest are fine but with some I can really only do once or twice (like Space). I also have a hard time on the tomorrowland speedway, mostly from the fumes and my son's jerky driving :)

Seabands are absolutely useless for me, as is ginger or anything like that. I find that the best thing is Bonine, also called Less Drowsy Dramamine but you can only buy it in the US.

Avoid Star Tours as all costs as it seems to be the worst. Everything else is manageable for me.

Bonine is meclizine and it's available on amazon.ca (that's where I got mine from, it was pretty cheap and I think I got like 200 pills or something stupid like that, way more than I'll use before they probably expire).

Star tours is rough. But mission space orange is the worst. There is a reason they have air sickness bags in there. Yup that was me...things we do for our kids.

Ha! I've never even considered going on Mission Space.

Same here - Sea Bands were useless - I use Bonine and also peppermints...

Both my son and I use Gravol 12H. I’m not sure how it stacks up to Bonine (which I may buy and try when we’re in Florida in a couple weeks). Regular Gravol puts us both to sleep but the 12H formula we don’t have a problem with.

Also I’d probably avoid Star Tours and Mission Space.

I only did Star Tours once when in Disneyland and closed my eyes for 3/4 of it. It was awful. NEVER again!

Mission Space I'm okay on the green side and I'm not planning on trying the orange side. I will gladly leave that to DH who loves it. Never had an issue on Tea Cups (surprising) and only once on FOP when I did it 3 times in a row with no wait at the DIS Party last August. The 3rd time was too much.

Gravol 12H and regular Gravol are both the same formula... Dimenhydrinate.

I can't do Gravol and stay awake at all. I'm going on my first cruise in about 3 weeks and I have the ginger pills, getting the sea bands, and I have the patch that contains scopolamine. I hope that will do it because I don't want to miss my first cruise drugged and sleeping in my cabin for the whole week
