Hi, all.

I will be visiting HHI in May. Originally, my plan was to fly into Savannah. I'm not going to be paying the points to stay at HHI on a Saturday night, but I will be flying down on Saturday, so I need a motel for Saturday night. A while back, I asked on this board for a recommendation for a motel between Savannah and HHI, and I got my choice of a few.

I have since changed my plans and will be flying into Charleston because it's a lot less expensive. Can someone recommend a motel between Charleston and HHI. I'm not looking for any frills. I'd just like a clean, inexpensive place to sleep for a night.

Thanks.

There's not much between Charleston and Hilton Head. I'd suggest either staying in Charleston and seeing the city, or driving down to HH and staying someplace near the island. It's only maybe a 2 hr drive or so between Charleston and HH.
In Charleston recently, I stayed at Spring Hill Suites, and it was very nice (close but not in downtown). Near HH, I've stayed at Hampton Inn and Fairfield Inn (near Sun City), and Hilton Garden Inn (just before the bridge to HH).

When I arrive in Charleston, I will be spending the day there. However, I figured it would be less expensive to drive part of the way to HHI at the end of the day and then getting a roadside motel rather than staying right in Charleston. However, if there's nothing in between Charleston and HHI, I might have to stay right in Charleston.

Our DD goes to the College of Charleston, so I've been there a "few" times. ;) My favorite place to stay is the Courtyard Marriott. We've always been able to get a decent rate there; it's CLOSE to the college and downtown Charleston, but not right in the historic district, so it has a better rate. (I've even been able to get it on Priceline a couple of times when I wasn't satisfied with the Travelocity rate. The only thing about Priceline is that this place does give you the absolute least desirable room; if that's not a concern to you, then there should be no problem.)

There are also some less expensive motels in the West Ashley area of Charleston, which is right along Hwy 17 on the way towards Hilton Head.

We've also stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Bluffton (along Hwy 278 between I-95 and Hilton Head Island) and thought it was fine for a night.

BTW, when driving from Charleston to HH, you have your choice of taking I-95 or going along the back roads (17 to 21 to 170 to 278). I definitely recommend the back roads. It's really a beautiful drive. Just beware that it's 2 lanes in many places. But it's a way to get a real taste of the undeveloped side of the Low Country. (If you go that way, you can also check out places to stay in the Beaufort area!) Both routes will take about the same amount of time, since you have to travel a little farther out of the way if you take I-95. :moped:

Enjoy your trip!!

I think there are several B & B in Beaufort which is on the way and seems to be a very nice place to spend a day or 2.

Thanks for the tip. I'll make sure to take the back roads one of the ways.
