Hi, my daughter aged 9 has been playing pretty consistently. She appears to be slowly learning how to do more things, and has quite a few people on her friend list. However, in my trying to learn more to help her, it appears that there are many more adults than children playing. Do you think this is a true perception, or is it skewed because the disboard attracts more adults and this is where I have been getting some info? If you are an adult that plays VMK, do you feel it is appropriate for children? I live on the East Coast, is there a time you would reccomend I not let her play after. I have seen several threads about "flirting", "crossing the line" and "table dances", should I be worried about them. I am not criticizing any adults who play, I am just looking for more information.

Reading this forum, your perceptions will be very skewed. The age poll on this forum was nothing like the poll on the VMK fan site (at least a month or so ago). Reading the posts on the 2 different boards will also reveal the major age differences.

There are typically 1,500 - 2,000+ players on at a time, and if she is not following adults around, she is less likely to see adult behavior. But with just as many tweens on, they are just as into the whole 'boy friend' 'girl friend', pretending to get married ('merry'), be families with kids and pets, basically roll-playing, and/or practicing dating.

That being said, you'll have to decide for yourself based on what you've seen whether you think you should supervise your daughter. Not just for "adult" topics, but there are also a whole lot of mean kids out there too. Learn the trading scam tactics. Make sure she doesn't try to share personal information.

Good luck deciding.

It's so hard to tell a player's age. (even the way they type)
My daughter and all her friends play, but, they are the 'tweens' that Be is talking about and they don't hang out anywhere near me on vmk!
They spend a lot of time in their friends rooms.(and forever buying more clothes - that is where my princess shoes went)
I monitor what she is doing and try to ensure that there isn't any scary questions being asked.

I'm an adult and I play. My son plays also. He's the one that got me to playing. So far other than some would be scammers, our experiences with VMK have been positive. My youngest son plays on my account sometimes. He just moves the furniture around and my character. So if you ever come into my room and it looks like I have "ants in my pants", you can bet it's the 4 yr old "driving". lol. I'm sitting with him when he's on, so he can't do any damage. The computer my older son plays on is next to mine, so I can look at his screen and see what he is doing. If I'm busy doing something else, I check on him often. He also has strict rules for when he's on the internet. Both for his protection and the computer's sake.
