Which restaurant did you find was the most surprising ( ina good way) to your family? Were there any restaurants that your we sort of reluctantly trying that turned out to be big hits?

Beirgarten.

My family loved the food and the entertainment was top notch. My kids love the place!

We were pleasantly surprised by two recently:

1. Yak and Yeti -- we went in for a quick and light lunch as we were at AK, we were hungry and we didn't want too much as we were eating at V&A Chef's Table that evening. Dh and I split the won ton soup and the Chinese chicken salad. Both were tasty with large portions. We liked the decor and remarked that we ate there reluctantly but enjoyed it.

2. Chef Mickey's -- not my thing at all, but took our family there with my niece and -- while it's as insane as ever -- the food was tastier than we expected. Dad liked the peel and eat shrimp, the ribs were tasty (they only do ribs on certain nights) and the desserts were surprisingly good. On the other hand, the prime rib was really poor. Still, we enjoyed it and were surprised that we did.

Whispering Canyon Cafe!:thumbsup2

We were scheduled for the Spirit of Aloha dinner but the weather turned ugly and they cancelled the show. I had heard so-so comments about it but figured it was the best out of the choices.

My sisters and I were so surprised when this became one of our favorite dining experiences of the trip! We laughed so hard at the wait staff's interaction with customers and the food was great. It has officially become one of our traditions to dine here. We are doing breakfast and lunch on our next trip!:woohoo:

This was years ago but it was Japan now Teppen Edo. It turned out to be a must do every trip. Good food & fun .

Some of mine have been:

Tokyo Dining: We ate here the first time because we had gotten held up going to the beach and knew we wouldn't be able to make our original Epcot ADR (which if memory serves was Chefs de France). I called to see if I could change our time and the only thing available was Tokyo. We took it and ended up absolutely loving it. Its a must do now and our favorite place in Epcot.

Shutters at CBR. Ate here one night when we were staying at CBR and were just too tired to go back into the park. So I called and switched, had we not been on the DDP I wouldn't have bothered but we had ts credits left that I didn't want to waste. It was wonderful, probably the best prime rib I have ever eaten.

Tony's: Got this one for a MVMCP night when nothing else was available and due to the negative reviews expected the worse. Again, we were on the DDP and we had to find a TS in the MK and this was what they had. We loved it and have since been back several times.

All three of these were places I got into because due to last minute planning my original choices were unavailable. And all three turned out to be highlight meals of each trip!

Tusker House breakfast.
Another vote for Tusker House. We all had a great time. The food was great, all of us loved the juice, the service was one of the best, and the character interaction was perfect. We finished our meal and walked right on to the Safari with no waiting. What more could anyone want?

We've been to Mama Melrose's at Hollywood Studios and had a great and relaxing Italian meal with good wine several times.

Although expensive, the Flying Fish at the Boardwalk adds a little bit of sophistication to dining at Disneyworld without totally breaking the bank.

We ate there in Jan. as walk-up and it was wonderful. I have heard bad reviews but it was great.

Akershus Breakfast and Yachtsman Steakhouse. DH would only agree to bounceback if I promised to book both these meals on the return trip.

We really enjoyed the Plaza at the MK and Tony's Town Square...I'd heard some scary reviews, but both were yummy, reasonably priced and the service was great. Nothing spectacular food-wise, just good food and plenty of it. They are Le Cellier by any means, but they were good enough for us non-picky-eaters!

Jiko, last year I booked it for my birthday dinner because we were staying at the AKL and it would be easy...except I did not think that my husband would like anything on the menu....I was dead wrong, he loved every single bit of it, from the wine to the appies to the dessert he was in hog heaven!

Yak And Yeti. Had almost the same experience as Elizabeth B. The wife and I decided to try there mid-day, no reservation or plan to go, and it was top notch.

Whispering Canyon Cafe and Ohana are much cooler than just "hotel restaurants" and very much worth the trip out to see.

Finally, I find it surprising that San Angel Inn takes the flak it does. Both times we've gone we thought it was good food and the ambiance/setting really works for us.

Marakkesh: food was good, loved the entertainment, worked for kids and adults.

Biergarten was a nice surprise although my DS was not fond of the food, the rest of us thought it was better than expected.

A few trips ago the Plaza in MK was a surprise hit for us and now it is a regular stop on our agenda.

The Plaza, Teppan Edo and Mama Melrose are our top 3 must do's every visit!

Ditto - You took the words right outta my mouth:thumbsup2
