I am limited on funds, so I am not wanting to go to the Luau. But I am trying to decide if I should go to Kona or Ohana. We are going for our anniversary and want a romantic restaurant to have diiner in one night after our photos at the Poly and before we watch the fireworks from the beach. All opinions appreciated. Also please explain why you think it's the most romantic.

Unfortunately, neither Kona nor 'Ohana is romantic. Kona is really just a glorified cafe. 'Ohana is overrun with kids and loud, unpleasant entertainment.

With limited funds, I'd hop the monorail to the Grand Floridian Cafe. Then go back to the Poly for the fireworks (or watch them from the GF).

The food at Kona is great....far better than a glorified Cafe IMO and also better than GF Cafe for dinner. But it is open to the lobby and full of families so it would not be a quiet experience. It would be my choice over 'Ohana.

I saw your other posts about enjoying champagne on the beach. Perhaps you could make it a picnic. Pick up some food at Captain Cooks or cheese and crackers at the shop that sells champagne.

Still I'd pick Kona Cafe. The food really is excellent.

Yeah, I agree neither of the two is really "romantic" take the monorail to the GF, I've never eaten at any of the resturants there but I think the PP said GF Cafe b/c it's probly the cheepest but I would think Citricos or Narcossies would be romantic but NOT for someone limited in funds.

If your really stuck on staying at the poly to eat maybe request a window table at 'Ohana but 'Ohana is kinda "busy" with the guy or girl playing silly songs on the ukelale(sp?) hula-hoop contests, coconut races... I think Kona would be your cheepest option, 'Ohana is $26.99 each, Kona you can order off the menu...

Okay so to answer your question directly, I would pick Kona.

DH & I actually had the most romantic breakfast at Ohana.

We had a window seat with a lovely view of the castle in the distance, in a section that was not overly crowded and whatever everyone else was doing did not affect us. I am a huge fan of the characters and Mickey, Goofy, Chip and Dale were there so you can imagine my excitement. Stitch and Lilo - not so much. But I digress...

I have had a very romantic experience at O'Hana so I know it's possible. I think the food was great too. But if characters aren't your thing, I think the picnic on the beach would be a nice alternative. Kona's food is good but there is a lack of atmosphere for the place due to the open-ness to the busy lobby.

Best Wishes!

A late dinner at O'Hana could be romantic. We ate there last month, late, the restaurant was cleared out of kids. They stopped doing the games/songs for the kids at I think around 9:00ish. If you could get a late ADR, a table by the window and watch Wishes, that could be romantic. Of course that's a lot of variables! And if Wishes is running early, it will still be full of families. When we went, Wishes was at 10:00 and by the time 9:30 rolled around, it was just a few people in O'Hana and if there were kids, they were older so it was quieter.

I also second getting something from Captain Cook's and just doing your own thing on the beach. It will get more crowded closer to Wishes but before that, it was pretty quiet last month.
