Most Overrated things people rave about at WDW

BOG...I mean the food for breakfast was decent but I wasn't that in awe over the decor, the tables were definitely food court quality and it just seemed like a kind of fancy cafeteria to me.

7DMT...even my daughter said it was a one and done ride.

Safari at AK...it was pretty boring to me. Yay animals.

  • Kona Cafe - The food was alright, but it was so unbearably loud that the noise is the only thing I remember
  • Disney popcorn - it's alright, but it's just run of the mill popcorn
  • 7DMT - BTMRR is considerably better, and longer, and more exciting
  • Jalapeno cheese pretzels - it tasted like something out of the freezer isle at Walmart. A little stale, a little lacking in flavor, and looked much better than it actually tasted

Epcot. In all fairness, I think it's just too difficult to do a park about tomorrow without completely updating it every few years.

On our second WDW trip, we were in WS and I told DH, "Everyone says really good things about Epcot. I think we're missing something. We need to make sure we give it a fair shot this time." As soon as I finish the sentence I look up and we're surrounded by 4 strollers all pushed by someone who was also holding an alcoholic beverage. We turned to each other and said "Ohhhhh!"
Also ironically that's where my nephew learned what beer is (picture menus).

Illuminations
Disney Springs
Wishes (didn't love it but maybe because I was feeling rushed from hurrying to get to FP+ area before it started)
Chef Mickey's
Most of DHS

The Polynesian

I just don't get it. It's like a cheesy "The Brady Bunch goes to Hawaii". It's so dated. Don't get me wrong- we really, really try to "get it". We have eaten multiple meals there, saw fireworks from the beach, had drinks at the bars, walked the grounds but, still, think it is so dated and blah. I remember even taking the elevator in the lobby- it was like an old department store elevator- small and dated.

But I will say I enjoy Grand Floridian- the live orchestra is wonderful and you can request Disney tunes. There is something so magical watching kids dance on the "stage" in front of the elevator as a live orchestra plays a Disney tune.

Lol!! I know exactly what you mean!! I think Brady Bunch Hawaii Special every time I've been in the Poly!! Glad I'm not the only one. Since it's my kids "dream hotel" we are staying there in September but they don't know about it. Everyone on here saying the GF is overrated is KILLING me!!! I am in love with that entire property!! So funny how different people's tastes are!

In random order:
The buffets: I loathe buffets in particular, but most of my extended family LOVES them, so when they go, I go. People mixing up spoons, touching the food, and it's not all that good anyway, and we always seem to be near the table with the runaway kids. And squeezing to see a character that you now have to photoshop all the strangers out of. Worse, now there are buffets were you can only see certain characters.

Disney all-inclusive transportation: even when we stayed on-site we ditched it soon after our first trip. And now with the monorail breaking down and squishing more people on the buses and boats, nope, not magical.

Agree with both of these! Buffets give me major anxiety. Our first trip...I'm not saying I got food poisoning from the CP but only because I can't prove it! I can't handle actually seeing that many people being in such close contact/handling my food.

And Disney buses?!? No way!! They are the worst!

I'm curious about the "never again" - that's a strong reaction.... do tell!!

LOL yes it is strong I guess. We had trouble at check in (room not ready at 10:30p) and CM was obviously tired and over it. Hey so was I heh. Our bags were sent to FQ by accident, not sure whose fault that really was. We had a stinky fridge filled with mildew, which I had to call about at 11:30 when we finally got to the room. Mousekeeping was better after all that, though.

Then we had issues at check out and almost missed our ME bus because they forgot to give us the info packet.

We felt very isolated way in the back, but one positive was our room was close to the south depot.

Overall it just didn't give us the Disney feel we realized we wanted. There are so many other resorts, so we will cross it off our list permanently.

Food court was a bit chaotic, too, but I loved the pasta :D

The jungle cruise that ride needs a make over badly.

I agree. I just can't get into this ride. My nephew likes it so we ride it, but I think I've only liked it one out of the five times I was on it (the skipper was actually funny and not annoying like usual).

I'm also not big on toy story. I think it's just because of the wait times for it. I'd rather ride buzz.

I seem to pick at least one dud activity for my family each trip.....so these are the items that were not hits for us.

1. Akerhus character meal
2. Pirate's League
3. Jungle Cruise
4. But probably the worst of all.....minnies holiday dine. Boy, that is money and time we are never getting back.

First day back on here in years and I was so excited to finally get to vent about this! Anyway...

Fantasmic- The ending is cool, but the rest isn't exciting enough to be worth it to me. If I have to arrive hours early to get a decent seat and sit there waiting for the show to start it better be extraordinary and Fantasmic is just ok to me.
Peter Pan's Flight- Ridiculously long lines for an eh ride and I can't seem to find the charm in it that everyone talks about
BOG dinner-Ridiculously loud restaurant with average food at ridiculous prices. The restaurant inside is beautiful, but the food isn't worth the price. I do like lunch there though, although I haven't been since before they required reservations for it.
The new FP+ system- I much preferred the old one. There was a kind of thrill in booking it to the machines at rope drop while the rest of your party went to get in another line. And if you were efficient and got lucky with the times (you usually did in the mornings), you could get way more than 3 FPs in a day. Because the new system is booked in advance the chances of getting early times for what you want is slim (at least for me, I can't plan 60 days in advance), so by the time you're done with those and you go to get another FP, there are only "bad" ones left and you don't have time for too many more. I also feel like the system completely takes the spontaneity out of a Disney trip; before you only worked around food reservations but now you have to plan your entire trip and where you'll be each day weeks in advance just to get what you want. It has also greatly increased standby lines at the attractions that didn't previously have FP before the upgrade :(. Only plus is that you don't have to go all the way to the ride just to find out that the time available doesn't work for you, and I do like that you can get seating for shows and fireworks.

Sorry for the FP rant...it just has drastically changed my Disney trips and I don't know how so many people love it. But that's just me

1. The scent in the Grand Floridian. Aren't Disney resorts supposed to smell great? The scent was suffocating.
2. The jalapeno margarita in EPCOT. I bought one after reading all the rave reviews here and almost spit it out after the first sip. The worst part was forcing myself to drink the rest of it because it was so expensive. On the bright side, that was the most tolerable Gran Fiesta Tour I've been on.

Disney Contemporary Resort - I will admit the building design is cool and I like how the monorail passes through the main building, but the rooms look like any ordinary hotel room you would book at the Hyatt or Marriott in other cities. The rooms feel like I am getting ready to out for a business meeting than a vacation and for the high price, it is overrated in my opinion.

Food at Food and Wine Festival - I say the food because you only get what looks like 4-5 bites paying $4-6 per appetizer. It would take 5-6 of these appetizers to fill me up when I could just go to the QS and get a full meal for $10-12. While it is probably fun to be able to try a different variety of food at one location, especially at the World Showcase in Epcot, there are several local food festivals hosted in my area I could go to in order to eat around the world with bigger portions and for a lot less in price.

Free Disney Dining - When we calculated out the difference between a la carte (discounted rooms/WDW tickets) and going with the Disney package (hotel/ticket/free dining package), the difference was a lot more than I was expecting. We don't eat that much food to warrant using free Disney Dining and I think it makes families "overeat" to make sure you are taking advantage of the deal.

Soarin - It is an okay ride, but I don't understand the big popularity/ride wait times with this. I guess it would be different if I didn't look to the side once and you can see the edges of the movie screen. You could tell we were just watching an IMAX movie in the air and it feels like the aerial version of Mission Space. The other issue is every time I queue for the ride, the wait time is always higher than the estimated wait time. Hopefully, the 3rd theater will change this.

In fact ...all deluxe resort hotels - We are normally rope drop to early evening people so I can't fathom paying high prices for a hotel room I am just going to use for sleeping and maybe watching TV for an hour or two. I guess it is different if you weren't going to the parks and staying at your hotel for the majority of the visit, but these resorts are nice to visit, but not to stay in.

Good to know! We are hoping to switch to Beach Club but if we don't, I hope it doesn't end up on my "Top 5"! :)
