What are in your opinion the most overrated food items and restaurants in WDW?

For me and DH it's the jungle juice in Tusker House, the dessert in 'Ohana, funnel cake and the whole Hoop De Doo Revue. People seem to rave about those a lot, but we think they're just ok, neither of us really get what the hype is all about!

The Butterfinger Cupcake. Mainly because it's misrepresented by nearly everyone calling it the butterfinger cupcake. It's actually the Double-Chocolate Butterfinger Cupcake. It's unfortunate that the Double-Chocolate gets left out of the description because it is by far the dominant flavor and almost completely blows out the Butterfinger crumbles sprinkled on top.

Dole Whip.
It is fine but nothing spectacular to me.

Dole whips. I just don't get what the big deal is. *ducks flying objects*

For us, it has to be the luau at the Poly. Cheap wine and tough meat - never again. Some rave about it though. :confused3

I agree with these. The butterfinger cupcake is so over rated. I wasnt thrilled about it to be honest. Its way too rich, and this is coming from someone that loves sweets!

Dolewhips are nothing special IMHO. Theyre good, but not WOW like some other ppl claim. I prefer the citrus swirl (orange-vanilla) over the pineapple. Tastes much better to me.

The most over hyped restaurant in Disney for me is LE CELLIER. Oh my god ppl rave about this restaurants soooo much. I was eating the soup & steak thinking "WTH??? this is what ppl rave about? THIS???". My steak was tasteless and fatty, and the soup was just MEH. ive had far better (at biergarten for example!). Needless to say, i havent been back since and i dont plan to.

I really like the Dole whips, but it has to be mainly pineapple ice cream, with a little bit of orange ice cream on top, in pineapple juice! I'm not very specific, am I?? :lmao::rotfl:

another vote for Dole Whip. I didn't find anything special about it when I tried it the first and only time. Never felt the need to get it again. I can see it as something refreshing on a hot day, but dont get how some think its an absolute must for every trip and even as a favorite dessert :confused3

I've eaten at Cellier twice, first time I ageeed with the hype gang, second time I agreed with you. I ordered Filet Mignon both times, first time it was out of this world, I couldn't even believe it was meat! One of the best meals I've ever had! Second time it was totally different, just an average steak tasting nothing like the one I had first time. So weird.

Le Cellier.

It's steak... decent steak, but I can make a steak just as good at home for less money. It's not bad, but the cost is way too high for what you get.

I think Chef Mickey's is overrated! Food is average at best, the only thing they have going for them are the characters.

I agree with this. We were SOOOO disappointed. The food was just ok, the place was so dark and the tables were so close together I felt like I should introduce my self to the people at the next table since there was only about 8inches between tables.

Dole Whips and Zebra Domes.

Although Le Cellier is overhyped I actually like it, not enough to fight for a reservation, but I like it. Maybe it's because I've never ordered steak there. I don't like Dole Whips or Zebra Domes.

Grand Marnier slushy in France.

After hearing it called "the best drink in the World" on the Travel Channel, I was eager to try it. It was too strong and too orange-y for me.

Now, the Grey Goose slushy is heaven in a glass.

Agree with this 100%, this was probably the one meal we had that we were ho hum about.
Garden Grill food, was our favorite meal.
Didn't have many snacks when we went, the meals filled us up alot.

Oh and the Buffalo Chicken @ Wolf Gang Pucks in DTD - so delicious, yum.

The Ohana and Ragland Road bread pudding. We have a bistro here that makes it from fresh croissants and it is made to order so I was certainly disappointed in the WDW versions after reading so many "to die for" reviews here.

Le Cellier. All food here is overrated, from the beef to the cheese soup to the pretzel bread.

The Cobb salad at Brown Derby (hate the oatmeal consistency).

Another vote for Dole Whips. It's basic soft-serve ice cream. I don't get it.

I really dislike the Mickey-shaped ice cream bars :rolleyes1 and the Butterfinger cupcakes.

This :thumbsup2

I agree that Le Cellier is overhyped (especially the cheese soup, pretzel bread, and maple crème brûlée), but I still think it's good. And I can understand why the hype exists (the restaurant is small so it's difficult to get a ressie, and the filet with truffle butter is one of the best dishes I've had that only costs 1 DDP credit).

My pick for most overhyped would probably be California Grill and Flying Fish Cafe. I just don't think the food at Cali Grill is as exciting as it used to be - it doesn't "wow" us as much anymore. Even the sushi, while high quality, isn't so creative (relative to what's become available across the country). Flying Fish gets a lot of praise, and while we've had very good meals here, I haven't had anything that I just had to go back for.
