I AM A VIETNAM VET, I know in my heart you are right, there were some who voted for him. I also know that alot of us fought and died to give you the freedom to diagree with me. So don't preach to me and I will try to refrain from preaching to you, although I believe I have earned that right to some extent.
Yes you have. And thank you for your service.

The most offensive shirt I have EVER seen was on a guy in a restaurant. He was probably in his early 20's, eating with his girlfriend.

I really can't write out the saying, but it was gay bashing poorly disguised as trying to be clever. I saw that YEARS ago and I still remember it. Absolutely hideous. I can't believe a girl would go out with an idiot who would wear a shirt like that. I bet his "other" shirt is the one with the saying about the floor tile. :sad2:

O.K. I am a little nervous jumping in here....kind of like its feeding time @ the shark tank :fish:  !!! But like others have said , "where are the parents?" Hello! They must be getting the $ somewhere to buy the shirts. I am surprised no one has mentioned the shorts w/ the writting on the fanny? If your gonna read what it says, yes, your looking at their bum. Believe me, some of the saying that people have posted( ones they have seen on shirts) are funny :rotfl: ( some)- as an adult. As a mother, I would NEVER let them wear a shirt w/ a sexual/offensive meaning  Please no flames...I cry easy

Sooooo defensive. Geez. Where does that come from? All I was trying to say is that if I can't talk to my kids about sex comfortably, then who will? They are not going to be offended, traumatized, or upset over something as trivial as a T-shirt. Nor would it ruin our vacation or upset anyone for the day. They have been raised better than that. And I agree totally with whoever said that someone will always find something to be offended about.

Our differences are what make us unique! That is why I stress "LIVE AND LET LIVE". Post on....feel free to express yourself, but don't slam those that do the same.

And Jack Splat...you are right on Buddy!

Funny none of the "conservatives" have mentioned all of the sex references in Disney films.......
There is appropriate dress/behavior for specific places and times. This is not a conservative/liberal issue. I'd like to think that Victoria and Alberts is several rungs above McDonalds. Likewise, I'd like to think that Disney is several rungs above a Six Flags experience.

I would at least hope you can teach your children about that.

IMHO rights under the law have little if anything to do with it. Seems to me that it mostly boils down to our inability or unwillingness to define the standards. Also seems to me that a society cannot survive without them.

My 17 year old daughter has a job and sometimes in the wash I see shirts I didn't even know existed. She knows the rules...younger kids in the house, how if you don't respect yourself who will, and just because you have the body of a 22 year old does not mean you have the mind of one. I usually save myself the fighting and while I am doing the wash, throw it in the trash. For something she spent money on she sure never misses. I have thrown out at least 15 shirts that I find totally unacceptable. Her money I know but when she is 18 and lives on her own I will have no say and she can wear what she wants. This includes slogans or low cut to here. I think the OP was right. I live in a military town and was at Superwalmart last xmas.
Right there in the toy aisle 3 marines cursing away. :confused3 I just walked up and said gentleman speak how you want but come on you have to do it in the TOY AISLE. 3 red faced young men left the area with apologies. I just don't get it.. there is appropriate and inappropriate. Slogans at DW that are of a sexual nature just don't fit. Has nothing to do with what I am comfortable speaking to my children about...they learn the vulgar stuff soon enough. Just my .02 cents

My view is that there is a time and a place for everything. Walt Disney World is neither the time nor the place for offensive slogans. As for what is considered to be 'offensive', IMO Cast Members should refuse access to anyone wearing a slogan that would not be allowed to be broadcast on primetime TV or in a PG movie. Maybe if we all email our concerns to Disney, they will be more strict about this rule.

Some people have asked where the parents are. It has been my experience that more and more parents that no longer want to be tradditional parents setting the rules and being authority figures. Many either want to be "buddies" with thier kids, you know the type that say thier best friend is thier kids, or treat the kids like a pet. They care for them, feed them and do love them but don't feel they are there to guide them and set standards. They want to be the cool parents.

For us our kids have enough friends. They are 6 & 8 and need parents that set rules and help them learn that society has rules and there is a time and place for everything. We are proudly not the cool parents. (Just ask my kids. My 8 year old complains when I say PG-13 means he gets to watch it when he is 13. But don't get me started on that one.)

As for the live and let live attitude I would like to think that when I am at Disney I am not worried about my 8 year old getting a sex education lesson that he is not ready for yet. While it is fashionable to have kids under the age of 10 dress and act as if they were 18 year olds we have decided that our goal is to have our kids act thier age. It is not the goal to have them turn into cynical teenagers by the time they are 10.

Just my .02.

The only poblem is that the standard you are suggesting is degrading. Any of the slogans mentioned so far would be considered standard fare on prime time TV. The family hour no longer exists.

Heres a shirt I've seen around here that is just pain stupid:
" Yes it's really that big" with hands on either side across the whole shirt.

As for Robin saying something to the kid wearing the rude shirt. More power to you! I don't take my kids to WDW to read trash. I definitely would have said something to him and his companions and then I would have said something to a CM. I will also say something to someone who is using foul language in an area with children. We were at a local upscale restaurant not to long ago and there were a group of men having a bachelor party, cussing and being loud. There were several tables with small children in the area. I flagged down the hostess to ask her to get the manager and her response was, I'm not going to bother him(the manager) because they will be leaving soon. I couldn't take hearing one guy in particular saying the f word as every other word. I got up and went straight up to him and his friends and this is what I said, "heh buddy this isn't a bar. If you want to talk like that then there are plenty of places were there aren't little ears to hear you. If you haven't noticed this is a family restaurant." I was not happy at all, do you see the steam coming out of my ears? Once my little rant was over, the section we were sitting in burst into applause. Needless to say they paid their bill rather quietly and left, the majority of them were totally embarrassed. I did speak to the manager too, I was not happy with the hostesses way of handling the situation, or the lack of handling. The manager was not pleased either.

I'm all for freedom of speech, but I also have the right to a pleasant vacation, dinner, or what ever the case may be.
Stepping off my soap box now and stepping into my flame resistant suit. :teeth: :firefight

Ack. Don't even get me started on what the media has done to the entertainment industry. Disney has long set the standard for family TV and should keep this same standard in their parks.

Skipping the controversy part, the T shirt I remember most was worn by this obvious biker guy. On the back was printed "IF YOU CAN READ THIS, THE B#@&H FELL OFF! Probably offensive to some, but I just had to laugh. :rotfl:

So, if someone is alowed to wear a "Know Jesus, Know Peace/No Jesus, No Peace" T-shirt, should someone else be allowed to wear a "No Jesus, Know Peace/Know Jesus, No Peace" T-shirt?

What about " Bill Clinton Lied!"?

What about a $300 pair of jeans? That is truly offensive and disgusting.

The truth is that Disney, as a non-governmental entity can restrict speech on their private property. They get to decide what they consider offensive. There might be some lines that I would draw that they wouldn't consider offensive, and vise-versa, but it's their place so they get to make the rules.

If I was wearing something that I didn't think was even close to offensive, and some busy-body decided to chastize me for it, I might have a few choice words. She would have the right to say it, but I would have the same right to respond. I have told people that their attitude offended me. :rotfl:

And every time I read one of these "going to hell in a handbasket" messages, I laugh. I guess that the person that posted this forgot that their parents thought they listened to lewd and disgusting music, watched trash movies, and dressed in an inappropriate manner constantly. Every generation thinks the next generation or two is completely out of touch with everything that they have stood for their entire lives. The problem is that their own parents and grandparents thought the same about them. :teeth:

Bottom line, there are some parents out there that could use a good boot to the head for letting their kids dress (and act) the way they do. There are also some people that tend to walk around looking for something to be offended by. :cold:

BTW, I am the guy that would wear the Bush shirt to the Kerry rally. It would do the mis-informed some good to see a little bit of truth.

I actually am going to close this thread. Many of the slogans and such that are being typed are actually in poor taste for a family oriented board. We have kids that read here too, and it's just as inappropriate here.
