am calling ms shortly, thanks

Great question. I am sure the answer is they are all safe. The only thing, I can share is that I noticed when I was at SSR that they were using poured and block concrete on the steel structure for the exterier walls. I am sure that other buildings outside of WDW would have just used wood. Watching them build it, it was obvious they were making it hurrucane proof (to someone that know nothing about construction). I am sure that the other resorts are built the same. Disney does not mess around when they build resorts.

I agreed - WDW has lots of experience with resorts and DVC know about the chance of hurricanes before OKW - so all their building are built to last - 140mph????might be more or less don't really remember the speed when I asked by in 92....

Frances is on track for a landfall right near vero. Does anyone know if vero has ever suffered hurricane damage in the past and whether repairs and insurance cover them well. On know this is a general question but just had concerns since we are property owners.

I know Floyd tore apart the pier on Castaway Cay a couple years ago and it took months for full access again!

We plan to visit vero in March 2005.

thanks

hopefully even if it comes close to VB - the DVC will only have minority repairs - DVC builts it structure to last.

I think the higher insurance costs for that area is one reason why the annual fees are so much higher.

I have been a member of oKW since 93 - there has never been extra cost.

We were at SSR for Hurricane Charley and we did not see any building damage. There were some trees that fell down, but no building damage. The day after Charley we moved over to OKW and did not see any building damage there either.::MickeyMo

We were at BCV during Charlie. Inside room facing the pool, 3rd floor. We really didn't feel/hear a thing. Had to look outside to realize that a hurricane was going on. Very protected over there, I guess.

just returned last nite from WDW and saw little damage to any buildings.
Seems like some audings were missing at BWV, but they may have just taken them down, also the sails that are usually at the bridge by the Swan were missing. noticed that one window broken and the plastic was missing from the AMC Theatre sign at DTD. Lots of trees down
Also noticed they used steel and concrete when building which made my 13 year old feel very save - he's not real big on wind and thunder.

Thats easy, VWL. Ya just never see a hurricane in the great northwest. SSR themed in upstate NY would also be much less likely to see a hurricane than the "oceanside" accomodations of Old Key West, Boardwalk, or Beach club.

All the DVC buildings were built to Florida code to withstand hurricane force winds. It's not like you will be staying in a trailer. (No offense, trailer dwellers.)

Yep, you're right. They haven't been hit in over a week! ;)

I don't know for sure but I would think BWV might be the best. Why, there's less trees over there to be blown around that could come crashing into a window.

I believe that all buildings are safe. After all, as others have stated, Florida has been dealing with hurricanes for years and Disney has been there since 1971, long time ago prehaps, but Florida had many experiences prior to that. ANYWAY, just to add my 2 cents, we were at the Polynesian during hurricane Charley and felt very safe. As for trailer people, just for info in case people are interested in such stuff, my brother was staying in his RV at Fort Wilderness during the hurricane and Disney moved them into Port Orleans for a few nights. I was very impressed by how Disney handled everything. We were there for 15 nights, 14 of them after the hurricane, and visited all the WDW DVC resorts during our stay. They all looked fine, basically just a lot of trees down. I would feel safe in any of them.

What is an "auding"?

I agree that all the resorts have held up well. There was no major damage reported in the last hurricane. Of course, they evacuate the campground. I also seem to recall that one of the other resorts also has some evacuation (CBR?) due to flooding problems. OKW is particularly solid and the one-bedrooms and larger have a built-in safety room in the laundry room and/or bathroom. Of course, you should bring along your own provisions since you won't be walking over to Olivia's. ;)

Vero is a "wait and see". This is the first actual hurricane that will hit the resort. They have built it to top codes and I recall something special about the underground parking related to hurricanes but not what it is! The boardwalk steps tend to rip off in storms but they have redesigned them, too. We'll see how they make out this time. I don't think you could stay in the resort during a hurricane since it is located on a barrier island. I know that the lady who writes the "Seaside Scoop" about the beach by the resort is evacuating the barrier island.

Interesting about the pier at Castaway Cay. I sail on the 11/4 cruise. Sure hope it doesn't get damaged. What did they do while the pier was out of service?

Best wishes to the OP...I see you are from FL. The good folks in FL have certainly had more than their fair share of hardships this summer. Since we spend so much time down there, it sort of feels like my second home. And for all the DVCers here it really is a 2nd home. Wishing all of you the very best...especially those on the coast.

Just wanted to throw my well wishes and concern out there. Stay safe everyone!
