Most convenient place to return rental car

Hello all. I've searched a bit in this forum but haven't found the exact answer to my very particular question. I hope I'm not rehashing too much ground that's already been covered.

We are visiting family in the Orlando area for a few days and then going on to a resort vacation afterwards. We need a rental car for the family visit portion but we plan to return the car when we transition to WDW property, as we are content to use WDW transportation for that portion. Our trip back to the airport isn't an issue, so once we get to the WDW resort area, we'll be lobbing the rental car back for good.

Different car rental companies seem to have slightly different places to return a rental on WDW property. Which have you (any of you who have experience in this area) found to be the most convenient place to do so?

National seems to have a return location at the car care center. Hertz is somewhat near that, but not at the CCC (from what I can tell). There are return locations for other companies at the Dolphin (my concern there is that it's not Disney owned, so there's no bus service from there back to the parks/other resorts). There seems to be still another location for at least some of the rental companies at Shades of Green, but as we're not military and have never been to SoG, I have no idea where it is in relation to other stuff and what the transportation options are from there.

Here is our plan. We'll be arriving early-ish in the morning and my husband will drop myself, my daughter, and our bags off at the resort where we're staying. We will check in and leave our bags with the desk there, get our KTTW cards, ask them to call my mobile when our room is available, and we'll head on from there to the MK. My husband will drive the rental car while we're doing that to one of the rental return options, take care of that, and then catch transport to the MK somehow to meet us there. (We have APs pre-ordered which we will be picking up at Will Call prior to our resort arrival day. We're planning to go to DtD with the family members we're visiting during one of our earlier vacation days, so he'll have no trouble going straight to the MK and entering the park separately from us.)

So which of the many rental car return locations and transportation options would be the fastest/easiest way for him to get to the MK and join us? Rental car company shuttle from the CCC (National Car Rental) or whatever that Hertz car rental return location is that's sort of nearby to the CCC? Returning at the Dolphin, walking to Epcot, and taking the monorail to the TTC and continuing to the MK? Returning to SoG (if possible for non-resort guests) and catching an MK-bound bus? Or is there yet another option that I didn't find doing my research?

If anyone can help me untangle this, I'll buy you a virtual dole whip. :)

Car Care Center is right next to Magic Kingdom. I believe that would be your best bet for him. The Car Care Center will just drive him to the Park and drop him off. Nothing to it.

Sounds like the CCC is the best since your DH will want to go to MK after drop off. I didn't see what resort you are staying at but the Dolphin is serviced by Disney Transportation. If your resort is near the Dolphin you could all check in then drop the car off take the bus to MK.

Oh, I forgot to include the resort in question! Contemporary/Bay Lake Tower. I just couldn't tell on the map how far the CCC and the MK are from each other, and didn't know if there was transportation available away from the CCC.

And I didn't know there was transportation available from the Dolphin, but that is good to know! I thought I'd read somewhere here that there wasn't because it's not a WDW owned resort. I'll keep that info in my back pocket in case I need it someday.

We returned our car to the CCC and although we didn't need transportation because we were with friends, we could have hopped a shuttle to where ever we wanted to go in Disney.
The Swan and Dophin both have all the perks of the Disney hotels.
