Most annoying vocabulary blunders

How about "conversate". As in, "let's get together and conversate", or "I was conversating with him".

I know several people who say/use this "word".

TCPluto my coworker says conversate and conversating! When she says it, I always think of a George Theorogood song and start thinking to myself, One bourbon, one scotch, one beer............

My favorite (note sarcasm) is when a person says, "I've got a question I need to AXE you." Grrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

This may be a little off topic but it's funny. I used to work with a woman named Susan and she messed up so many sayings that we started calling them Susanisms. The funniest one I can think of right now is "in two sinks" instead of "in sync". That one had us rolling on the floor.

Another one...those who say "orientated" when they mean "oriented", as in "The movie was orientated to children"

You also missed the "e" and the "l" in definitely, but that was obviously an oversight since you spelled it with the "e" and the "l" in the misspelled version.

YES!! Someone caught it! Good job; you get the price!

It is DEFINITELY with an *I* and NOT an *A* ~ although it DEFINITELY sounds like an *A* would be correct.

Anyone notice the new(er) annoying usage of the words *these ones* or *those ones* being used together?

The misused pronouns annoy me, too!

I know several people that refer to something irrelevant as a "mute point" when they mean "moot point". I even saw "mute point" in the title of an editorial in the local paper recently. :

The one that bugs me the most is the use of "loose" instead of "lose".
i.e., "It would be a shame to loose the Adventurer's Club...."

I HATE THAT! I thought it was only regional. I don't seem to hear it when we travel but every single day by educated people I hear this, "Let me axe you something...". I know they can spell the word correctly but they pronounce it axe instead of ask.

I find it ironic too that people on this very post who claim to be the "grammar police" get caught using I instead of me. Too funny. For the record I do not claim to be a spelling or grammar police officer.

I honestly think most people are just misspelling that one. Perhaps not. The trick I tell my kids with that one is to put an "a" in front of the word. "Do you have a loose tooth?" vs "Did you lose a tooth?"

I get irrationally irritated with the rampant abuse of "myself," not only here on the boards, but EVERYWHERE.

"Here is a picture of myself, DH, DS, etc...."

"Myself and DH went to the store..."

I hate to say it, but there are times when my FI uses the complete wrong word in a sentance, but usually I can't bring myself to correct him.

I can't stand "prolly". It isn't a blunder but I just think it sounds so trailer trash. LOL!

DBF uses "prolly" and it annoys the living heck out of me!

Bad spelling and grammar on message boards don't bother me. I know a lot of people are typing fast. I know I don't always have the best grammar and I know that I can't spell to save my life. But when I hear this bad grammar being spoken it just irks me. It is birthday not "birfday", probably not "prolly".

The only one that bothers me anywhere is "could have cared less". It just loses all meaning when said wrong.

And she's not trying to be funny? A lot of people have a thing or two like that that they say that would seem silly or stupid to others. IE, when my nephew was little he called confused, "gorfused", which is what we've always called it since then. I wouldn't type it on a message board since people wouldn't know what I was talking about, but my DH and I say it. Just a silly family thing that someome else might think is stupid (it is stupid ).
