Ok, kind of a silly question... Has anyone ever had any problems with mosquitos on their cruise?? Probably not so much on board, but at any of the ports??

I have not. I have had problems with mosquitos in the Caribbean (Grand Cayman is the only one I remember being bad) but that was on a 2 week vacation there and they came out at dusk - as they do here. Other than that, on all my 12 cruises I haven't received one bite, AND we tend to do "adventerous" types of excursions, so we've been into the rainforests & jungles, volcanos, mangroves at night kayaking, deserted beaches, etc. and the only thing I remember about bites on a cruise was sand fleas in Roatan, Honduras, and it wasn't from us. We were on a sailboat all day anchored off of the beach. When we returned to the ship, everyone on the beach had sand flea bites.

So, not much to worry about in the way of mosquitos. Yes, they do exist, but usually you are out to sea before they come out to play!

We had major mosquito problem when we did the Kayak trip in Cozumel a couple of years ago and didn't know beforehand, this year we are going back and will make sure to have some bug spray or Skin-So-Soft by Avon that works very well too ..... we did not have that problem in GC or at CC ..... We had not one problem with mosquitos on our cruise (7 Day Eastern) two weeks ago. However, we stayed on St. John for our Honeymoon (6/92) and the mosquitos were terrible, especially in the evening. I have "fond" memories of sitting in an outdoor restaurant and being eaten alive under the table. We went to St. John on our cruise and had no problem at all.

I think MrsFuzzmo is right, the ship leaves port before the bugs come out. I seem to recall a poster not too long ago mentioning that they could never make Castaway Cay a resort because the bugs are so bad when the sun goes down.

Hope this helps.

Thanks all!!! Guess it's better to be prepared for them!!! You never know!!! I got eaten alive at WDW last year:(

You won't have any problems with the mosquitos.....they're all residing in Southern New Jersey and knocking on my door!

I think the best way to prevent having a mosquito problem is to use the sunscreen with bug repellant in it. You know you are going to need sunscreen anyway so get the dual kind (sunscreen with bug repellant) and you only have to apply one. Avon sells this and I am pretty sure you can get it at any drugstore. Hope this helps!!
