Mosquitos in October?

Mosquitoes aren't terribly common in most parts of SoCal, and in particular October tends to be Santa Ana season, meaning bone dry conditions and high fire danger. Not very conducive to mosquitoes.

Happy to say that I, too, have never had issues with mosquitoes at Disneyland. I used to get eaten alive when I'd go camping in the mountains as a kid, but not so much in the dry areas anyway. There have been reports of Zika-related birth defects in California, so it's smart to check and be safe, but I think Disneyland itself is typically pretty bug-free.

There was a report on the new last night that there has been an increase in mosquitoes testing positive for West Nile in Orange County. It's not Zika, but you probably don't want that either. While the risk of contracting Zika in So Cal in microscopic at best, every time there is a report of a new locale where someone has contracted it, someone had to be the first person. For peace of mind why not pack some bug spray? I have some permethrin spray left over from a previous international trip. I'm planning to treat a few outfits for outdoor activities for the rest of the summer. The cost and time to do that are minimal.

You are kidding right? Neither mother contracted the Zika virus in California. Both were from countries outside the U.S. where Zika is active and returned to the U.S.

Note that I did NOT say Zika was contracted in California. I said there had been cases of birth defects related to it. That is all. But, hearing about anything related to in on the news often causes mass hysteria. My comment was more that it doesn't hurt to look into it and be safe, especially if you're a pregnant woman. NOT that we have a serious problem. In my post I specifically said there would likely be no problems.

Thank you!! I have the wipes, bracelets and spray to bring with me. I grew up by Fresno, but haven't lived in CA for over a decade now. I don't remember it being a problem, but wanted to see if anything has changed. Thank you all for the info!
