Does anyone know what the mosquitos are like at Fort Wilderness in August? We are planning on staying there and also doing the Back Yard BBQ but my husband gets eaten alive. The mosquito thing will completely ruin the trip for him. We are from Connecticut so we are used to them....my husband HATES spray and they don't seem to work well for him. I really need to know becuase if they are bad I am going to have to cancel our BBQ!!!

We stayed at the Wilderness Lodge in 2006, 2005 and we did not notice mosquitos at all. We also went to the BBQ and did not notice them at all.

Good Luck!!

The Back Yard BBQ is in a screened in pavillion..so I don't think mosquitos would be too much of an issue. I will tell you it is incredibly humid in August, might be more of a concern. If you are able to..I would recommend the Hoop Dee Doo Revue, for that particular time of year. I have been to both the BBQ, and Hoop Dee Doo. Enjoyed them both. Only if I were going in August(which we are actually) I'd choose the Hoop Dee Doo Revue over the BBQ. We went to the BBQ in May, which was in my opinion a nicer time of year to experience an outdoor show. Just my two cents..but thought I'd let you know.

We stayed at Fort Wilderness a few years ago and took bug spray. I was the only one who needed it because I got up earlier than everyone else (not by choice, it just happened) and sat on the front deck of our cabin. Some bug liked me (not a mosquito).

If there is a mosquito in a hundred mile radius, it will find my husband. He has yet to be bitten at Disney World.

But - you should take something for your husband. Because you already think he is going to get bitten. And so does he. There are so many products out there that aren't sprays and everyone has their opinions on each one. But, I can practically guarantee that if you pick one and tell your husband that the Disers said this will work and there are no mosquitoes at Fort Wilderness, he's not going to feel a thing at the BBQ.

You should ask this and all other FW questions over on the "Camping at Disneyworld" thread.

It's funny. You'll get a lot of responses saying there are no mosquitoes on Disney property. Well, I am living proof that there are mosquitoes everywhere in Florida. They love me. If there are any in the area, they find me. So, you might be one of the lucky ones that they won't bother. If your husband tends to attract them, it could be a problem. Try not to be out a great deal at dusk.
