Mosquitoes, Bugs, how bad in May?

Does anyone know if mosquitoes or any other biting bugs are bad at night/or day in the month of May? Will we need spary/protection, like Deep Woods Off, this time of year?

Take bug spray! I'm a mosquito magnet and have been eaten alive at WDW in May. Deep Woods Off is probably overkill...we use the Family Off (I think that's what it is, in the clear bottle with a pump spray) and it works just fine.

I don't have any problems with bugs at WDW during the day, but at night it is a different story. Put it on as soon as dusk approaches and you'll be ok.

I've heard some say about the bugs being bad at WDW but we have never seen them. I was just talking about it last night that WDW must have some kind of magical spray because I have yet to be bitten by anything while there in May or October. I get bitten like crazy at home so I figure I'm a mosquito magnet myself. I always bring a can of Off but have yet to use it while at WDW.

We like to go in May every year and usually don't have a problem but one year my daughter got eaten alive while sleeping in her stroller over at Wilderness Lodge...it was quite odd that none of the rest of us got any bites but she certainly did.
If you are going to be around the water at night over there or in any woodsy areas I would bring spray for at night!

We had a problem with getting bit at the AK. It was and overcast day and we were waiting outside of Dinosaurs. We had to go into one of the shops to buy some spray..

Disney does as good a job as can be done controlling the bugs but it is still hit or miss. My DW and DD get eaten alive, if there is a bug within a square mile of them it will find its way to them. She always has a small pump bottle (about the size of a roll of quaters) of OFF that contains deet. Most of the time they are not a problem but when they are you want to be prepared and it is so much cheaper to bring it from home.

I must hit it good, I've never seen any bugs at WDW in May or even in mid-summer. I always figured they must have magical pixie dust bug spray there.

The only bugs I've dealt with in May are the Love Bugs. They do make for interesting conversations with the children.

the worst thing about the bugs in may is explaining to your early elementary school kids about the mosquitoes mateing mid air right in from of them.

I haven't ever noticed a problem with mosqitos at WDW, but what I've seen in recent May trips is the "noseeums". The tiny little white nat like bugs that buzz all over. There haven't been enough to warrant me using any type of repellant recently but I have used a combo sunscreen/repellant that I found at Bath & Body Works on previous trips.

In general, disney does an excellent job of bug control. It's still probably not a bad idea to bring some sort of bug repellent for nights though. I think it probably depends of what areas the world you are in as to the degree of bugs you will encounter. I don't know about magical pixie dust or whatnot, but, many of the plants and shrubbery that disney plants around the world are ones that contain natural bug repellents.

"Thanks" everyone!! I plan to take a can of repellent just in case. I have heard about those little white nats before so we will be looking to avoid them. Never saw the love bugs, this will be interesting with our two teen boys. This time next week, we are there!!

Love bugs are not mosquitoes, they are flies, and they do not bite or sting; if they land on you they just tickle. They are a problem squished on painted surfaces like cars, b/c chemicals from the corpses damage the paint. If we drive our own vehicles in the South during love-bug season, we coat the car with unbuffed paste wax to protect the paint.

Real mosquitoes are an entirely different story, though I've never had any trouble with them in the theme parks. Disney sprays outdoor areas very heavily for the most part, but I have encountered the little nasties in wooded areas, especially at the resorts. (They spray using truck foggers, they are all over the World at about 3 am.)

The worst bug bite experience I've had at WDW was at MK. I'm always careful at the resort because of all of the water (I usually stay at POR), but I didn't think to spray myself at WDW. We were watching Spectro from near the bridge leading to Tomorrowland and I ended up with over a dozen mosquito bites on my legs.
