Anyone just back from Ft. Wilderness that can give a mosquito report? I know you don't really find them at the resorts or in the parks, but we're staying in one of the Wilderness Cabins this weekend (our nephews' choice) for the first time in over a decade and have definitely stocked up on the mosquito repellent. Just want to know if they're really bad right now...

We live about 10-15 minutes away from WDW, and the mosquitos are awful right now. My husband and I stepped outside with our dog on Sunday morning, and as soon as she hit the grass, a cloud of mosquitos, hundreds of them, just rose up and descended upon us. Not pretty... It's hot and muggy and raining most afternoons now, so definitely mosquito season is upon us.

You can get a kids' version of Off that has a smaller amount of the terrible DEET, but that I've found to be extremely effective still at repelling mosquitos.

Cheers!

The last time we were at FW was Sept 2004 and yes the mosquitoes were awful. We found the Off wipes in the pop up container worked the best for us. They were easy to use and light to carry.
We could not sit outside because we became their dinner but the trip was awesome anyway.

I hope this helps and enjoy your trip.:goodvibes

Thanks for the advice. We have the Off Family wipes, which should work well for everyone. I know that mosquitoes are bad all over Florida right now, but I was always under the impression that Disney sprayed to keep them at bay. When we were there a couple weeks ago for the week of the 4th of July (stayed at the Poly), I didn't notice any mosquitoes at all.

it's not 100%, but disney has actually had in the recent past (and may have it still for all i know) an interesting pesticide free way of controlling the mosquito population. as mosquitoes recognize their prey by a combination of heat and carbon dioxide, disney has created giant 'human' traps.

Well here's hoping they have those babies cranking at full blast this weekend! :thumbsup2

Now that sounds fun:eek:

We were just at the Wilderness Lodge and didn't feel one mosquito, even at dusk, when they are normally terrible.

We just returned from the Villas at the Wilderness Lodge (July 10), and I can say the bugs were really bad....esp at night. I have never had an issue with bugs at WDW, but I can now say I have. We moved over from the Beach Club Villas....had no issues there. But, VWL OMG...make sure the pack the bug spray! I did and used it, but that didn't stop them from swarming us at the docks or trails around the property.

OP here:

Mosquito Report:
We arrived at our cabin at 8 am on Friday morning and are very happy to report that there were absolutely no mosquitoes to be found at Ft. Wilderness all weekend! I have no idea how they do it, but we were not bothered by a single bug. It was a nice surprise, especially seeing that we were prepared for the worst. Kudos to Disney!

1) We were at Fort Wilderness two weeks ago.
2) I didn't see one mosquito.
3) I did see quite a few sparrows.
4) On second thought, they WERE mosquito's.
5) I forget how big the bugs get around here.

Seriously, bring your bug spray. You WILL need it.

Love that post RustyScrapper :lmao:

We were at Ft Wilderness for the campfire & movie about a week ago while staying at Coronado Springs for the week. I was thinking hey, this is pretty good, it's so true about Disney & their special mosquito spraying that keeps WDW mosquito-free while the rest of swampland Florida suffers.

And we had put on some spray before we got there.

When we got back to our Resort though I saw the family mosquito-magnet, my 3rd DD was covererd in bites. I got off pretty lucky amazingly as guess who she takes after. Guess we both give off a lot of hot air!

Take & apply & apply again your bug stuff!
