mosquito deterrent

we live in the part of Florida that just got hit hard with rain and flooding, so I'm anticipating the mosquitos will be worse than usual. I am having a get together at our tiki bar in a few nights and I am looking for some recommendantions, maybe a particular brand of citronella candle that you have had luck with or an electronic device, or even an old wives remedy. Anything other than handing a bottle of "off" to my guests! Thanks!

I received a bzz agent kit for the new Off Clip on repellent. It is an individual device that you wear on your body instead of Applying it to your body. *so your not adding any toxins through your skin. It's a refillable device with a tiny fan that kind of blows the product around you-

I was skeptical but I have to say it worked like a charm when we were in MD at a house on the water right after a rain storm. And then again at the baseball field. Everyone was getting eaten alive but I was protected. And I had a nice crowd around me trying to get in on the coverage. It was actually pretty funny!

I heard putting a fabric softener sheet in a pocket will repel the pests. Never tried it myself.

I just recently received an email (that I can't find right now) saying that if you put Listerine in a spray bottle and spray the vicinity of where you would be sitting, children's playsets, around chairs etc. and it will keep mosquitos away for hours. I haven't tried it yet but supposedly works without having to spray anything on your body.

I also got the email regarding Listeine, as well as confirmation from a co-worker that it actually works. I haven't tried it yet but I may, considering they're starting to try to carry people off here...

I don't live in FL so I think our bugs are less resiliant, but for our backyard party a few weeks ago, I purchased the Off stuff that you attach to your garden hose and spray down the area (including tables/chairs) the day before the party. Worked like a charm! Not one mosquitto the entire evening.

If you live in a place where they get real mosquitoes none of the above accept the OFF spray works. I have tried it all. Why not keep a few bottles of mosquito spray handy? Try the OFF in the blue bottle with the orange top (I can't remember the name). It works very well and has NO odor.

I use a citronella plant. I just leave it on my deck and patio seems to work pretty good.

I also did the Bzz on Off and had terrible results with the personel device. I am a mosquito magnet, there could be 1000 people in a crowd and the mosquitos will bite me. I was at a picnic and the others were shocked to see my arm was so covered at one point that three of them couldn't smack all the bugs on me.
I did run and get the lantern and that worked great. I have used the lantern for 2 years and it is wonderful.
I hate the sticky sprays and hate the thought of putting the stuff on my grandson so I usually stay in the house after 4 pm. Citronella and plants don't work for me. I have also tried the Avon Skin So soft, vicks vpaor Rub and Listerine without success.
Definately get the lamp, much better than citronella.
