Robo and others are correct. While it is true that certain Islamic beliefs were employed during the design of WS, lighting was not one of the areas in which it would be "appropriate" or "innappropriate."
If you are interested about the religious constraints, I will explain those now. 1) All of the tilework needed to be completed by those FROM Morocco (spelled properly with ONE r not two). WDI designers were not permitted to lay the intricate tiles themselves. King Hassan II actually reviewed the designs before they were completed. 2) You will not see any living beings depicted in any of the tilework or elsewhere. THIS is the issue that deals with respect, specifically with Allah. It is an tenet of Islam that "only Allah can create life." For those of you not aware, this is the same issue that is at the center of the cartoon depiction of Allah controversy.
Furthermore, for those interested, the tower in Morocco is not a "part of a mosque" per-se, but rather it is a depiction of Koutoubia Minaret from Marrekesh (the city that half of the pavilion is loosely based off of). Interestingly enough, the original Koutoubia minaret was at one time connected to a mosque, but the mosque needed to be destroyed because it was not perfectly alligned with Mecca. Today, pilgrims may visit the minaret and the surrounding gardens as well as the ruins of the mosque, but non-Muslims may not enter the minaret.
To address the statements about Norway: Yes, the tall brown building is a depiction of a Stave Church. These buildings are a rare item in Norway today and only 28 remain (from wikipedia). However, recall that Mexico, China and Japan feature representations of temples as well, and those ones are decked out with lights like it is their jobs.
Bottom line, WS is WAY, WAY behind on updating all of the pavilions to be full participants in Illumi.
