We leave in a couple of days and DD is 2 months pregnant and feeling very sick. Not found anything that helps but has tried the normal. ( dry toast, crackers). Any ideas??

You could move this to the Community Board, you might get more ideas. I had terrible morning sickness with my first, and nothing helped. Sorry.

A trip to your local health food store for some herbal remedies......

I'm about 10 weeks and leaving tonight! My doctor prescribed Zofran for nausea. Depending on her insurance, it is very expensive, though. I'm saving them for and "emergency"! I also got the Trans Derm Scop patch for flying down since I normally get airsick to begin with. Vitamin B6 is supposed to help, too. If you google it, you'll get lots of information. Ginger capsules, too. She should call her Dr., I'm sure they'll be able to help in some way.

I can relate to what you are feeling. I have three children and was so sick with ALL three of them that I was hospitalized with each one. I couldn't keep anything down, felt so so awful all of the time, the blood vessels in my eyes were broken and I was always quite dehydrated. The Dr. put me on some kind of drug (can't remember what it was) while I was in the hosp and then sent me home with it also. With the first two the sickness stayed most of the way through my pregnancy although it did lessen. The best thing to do is try to eat small small amounts of food (anything you can) and drink separately. Do NOT eat and drink at the same time. Whatever you can find to drink, if you try to keep your drink room temp. sometimes that helps.

With my third I started to become ill right away, my new Dr. at the time did hospitalize me also, but when I went home, he started me on long acting gravol (available over the counter) which I took twice a day. (i think it lasts 12 hrs), so I took one early morning and one before dinner (they were capsules, not tablets, hence the long acting). This worked much better than the medication I had been on with the other two. It did make me tired, but after a few weeks that didn't seem to bother me any more. I was still sick to my stomach but not nearly as much and was able to function, most important of all, I was able to eat things that were healthy for me, keep myself hydrated and nourish myself and my baby properly.

I am not advocating that you take any medication etc. without your Dr.'s consent or anything, you have to make your own choices. Some physicians just say that it is part of being pregnant, but if it is keeping you from eating or drinking, eventually it is not going to be good for you or your baby.

I was also in the same predicament as you as I found out I was pregnant while I was in Florida and was sick as a dog. It pretty much ruined the rest of our trip, so try to find something that is going to work for you. (what works for one, doesn't always work for another)

I sincerely hope that you have a good trip and that everything works out for you. Oh, and CONGRATS on the pregnancy! It is all worth it in the end!

:earsgirl:

P.S....I just read some of the other posts that were posted while I was writing this. I should let you know that my last pregnancy was 14 years ago, so there probably are other medications on the market that would do a good job also, as mentioned by another poster.

Just remember when weighing the good or bad of taking a medication, that you need to eat and drink to keep yourself and your baby healthy. Also, if you are taking a multivitamin sometimes that can upset your stomach also, so you may have to stay away from that also, then your diet becomes even more important.

Thanks for all your tips. Laura001, I will tell her about the multivitamins cos she started taking those straight away. Maybe that's the problem so she can trying giving them a miss, see if it helps.

I had accupuncture done during my first pregnancy to help with the morning sickness. I found that it helped a lot. I still vomited once a day but I wasn't nauseated (sp?) the rest of the time. I felt I was a lot more relaxed too, so even though I still got sick it didn't bother me nearly as much. I would have had it done again my second pregnancy but I wasn't sick that time.

I found that a vitamin B6 pill each day helped a lot. Also there are MS "lollipops" you can get too that sorta take the edge off. Hopefully your MS will disappear after the 1st trimester like mine did, but boy, it was rough there for awhile!

Good luck!

Ginger tea. Sip it hot, warm or cold. Works wonders. :)

I made mine with peeled fresh ginger root, which you should be able to find at any grocery store. Cut about a 1 inch slice, peel it, and chop it into smaller bits. Add hot water, a little sugar if you like, and sip it all day. Great for all things 'female', too!

Bumping you over to Community Board for more answers!

I was sooooo sick with my 3rd pregnancy, I lost nine lbs in my 1st trimester. My Ob warned that I might have to go into the hospital to get an IV. She suggested I try one last thing and lo and behold it worked. I drank water with lemon squeezed in it. LOTS of lemon, so the water is very bitter, I would do this first thing in the morning and then anytime I would start to feel sick. I have recommeded this to a few friends when they were sick as well and they said it worked as well! good luck and have fun!

A friend of mine had morning sickness and used Sour Gummy worms. Like the lemon Juice in water, it's the citric acid, and it's portable.. keep some in your purse if the lemon juice trick works for you.

Never had morning sickness, but one of my best friends had it something awful. She had success with lemon drops, popsicles and ginger. I've recommended this to a couple of other people who have had success with it. Reading the other posts, it appears that lemon is the key.

This is my 3rd pregancy and the only time I've ever had any kind of morning sickness. I had mostly nausea, not a lot of vomitting, just a little...what worked for me was taking vitamin B6 about 10 minutes before I ate (if I remember right it was 100 mg), making sure to never let my stomach get empty (and yes I would eat in the middle of the night if I woke up) and my dr suggested unisom at night. I don't what it is about the unisom, but I only took half the normal dosage and that really helped too.

How about a piece of peppermint candy? That always calms my upset tummy.

ginger ale really helped me. zofran too but it's really expensive and you'll need an Rx for it.

I was very sick with my first and my doctor ended up taking me off the pre-natal pill and had me take TUMS instead.

That did it! No more morning sickness.

Pick up Syrup of Coca Cola from your pharmacist. It works great!

First of all, PLEASE do not suggest that she stop taking her vitamins without getting her Dr's okay - those vitamins are VERY important, especially during the early stages of pregnancy. That being said, I found that they upset my stomach less if I took them at night, rather than earlier in the day.

I had morning sickness with both my girls - not enough to be hospitalized, but basically vomiting at least once almost every day. My OB recommended a combination of unisom (OTC sleep aid) and vitamin B6. I don't remember the dosages, but it helped me ALOT. The first few days I was tired (obviously) but as my body adjusted I was okay. And some days I only took the unisom at night, so that I was not too tired during the day, and it still helped (the recommendation was to take it a couple of times a day). I also found it helpful to suck on hard candies - for some reason when I was pregnant I always seemed to have a strange taste in my mouth, which would make me more nauseous, so the candy helped with that.

Oh - I forgot about that! I found that just drinking Coca Cola helped settle my stomach too. It had to be regular coke though - not diet or caffeine free. I was concerned about the caffeine, but the Dr. assured me that it was okay in moderation, and if the coke was helping me keep food down it was okay to drink it. I would only have a couple of cans per day, but would sip at it slowly throughout the day. Appparently, there's something in the syrup that helps settle your stomach.
