Hi...Usually I am over on the Budget Board, but I thought if I posted there it would get moved here anyway....
I am pregnant with my third child (about 10 weeks) and I am suffering:sad2: I never had any morning sickness with my other 2. I had cravings and everything but no sickness. I have felt like crap for weeks and I can't seem to be able to eat much of anything (this is very unlike me, LOL!) I do get sick often, but not enough that I feel I am not getting nourishment. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get over this? Will it be over soon, or could it last the whole pregnancy? I know all about crackers and ginger ale, but I can't even eat that. Seems I can't eat much of anything until late afternoon or evening. Any advice or tips welcome!!

could it last the whole pregnancy... you dont want to know the answer do you?? Sour stuff helps me like sour patch kids, also never letting my tummy get too empty eat LOTS of small meals. I also heard b2 supplements COULD help. I haven't tryed it. I'm too tired to go to walmart and get some.

Thanks HelenePA! I will get some sour stuff....I know about small meals, but right now, I can barely eat any! LOL! I am taking a horse pill of a prenatal vitamin. Maybe that has something to do with the tummy trouble. I don't remember feeling lousy until I began taking it a month ago. I see you are in NEPA...I am here too...we might be neighbors!

Mine lasted about 6 months with my first. And it wasn't just a morning thing.

You should count your blessings that you didn't have to go through it with your other two.

There's not much you can really do about it. I wish there was some way to help you, I know how miserable it can be.

Other than getting some fresh air, the only advice I can give is to stay away from whatever triggers your episodes. For me, it was looking at a bowl of cereal, hamburger helper, or the smell of crab legs steaming.

I was told when I was sick with DS that apples and apple juice would help...and it did! I was sick for 8 months with him and ate more apples than my entire life before and after!

It seems like all the remedies are so hit and miss, what works for one person doesn't work so well for another. but here's a could try: bite or suck on a wedge of lemon, that seems to calm to the stomach. Also try candied ginger, it's kinda hot but even just a little, tiny nibble can stop the nausea.
best of luck!!

I had all day sickness with my second son. I tried just about everything. Sea bands helped a little although they look ridiculous. I also found caffeine free coke defizzed and at room temp helped about the most. Hopefully it will stop soon!

Hi from a mommy of four rugrats. I am so sorry you are dealing with the sick. Typically it lasts no longer than the first trimester AND yes the prenatal vits can make you ill at first. Why dont you not take it for a couple days and see if you can get any relief. If yes, than I know they make different brands of prenates, ask your doctor for one with a coating. its much smaller and easy to swallow. I had to go that route as I had an awesome gag relex with all my pregnancies and swallowing was an issue. No dirty remarks! LOL! I heard enough of that from DH!

When are you taking your vitamin? I coudn't take mine in the morning only at night.

I had morning sickness with all 3 of mine. DS#1 - 19 weeks, DD#20 -16 weeks, DD#3 - 17 weeks. It's pretty miserable. With my first, I couldn't eat hard, sweet candy. I could eat chocolate things but hard candy, cough drop, etc. - BLAH!!!! I ate a halloween pack of sprees once and puked every color of the rainbow. I ate a lot of peanut butter crackers and plain ham or turkey sandwiches - protein helped me.

Hopefully it will pass soon. You can also ask your OB to give you something if it gets too bad but the meds didn't help me.

I could never take that horse pill of a multi-vitamin. I was sure to take a regular multi vitamin though that didn't bother me. That prenatal made me sick as a dog.

I second anything sour (like lemon candy) to suck on, it did help me. I had Morning Sickness with my first for slightly more than 3 months, and had nothing with #2.... with DS anything with tomatoes was a HUGE problem... I couldn't go near them...

You might want to try those sea bands that get advertised now and again, it's worth a shot KWIM?

However, Congratulations & hopefully this will pass soon!

take your vit. right before bed. Do NOT take it during the day. I have a combo pack (why oh why did they do this to me??) one for the day one for night and blah... I can't handle the day one. They told me if I couldn't tollerate it just take 2 chewable childrens vits. Oh and raw meat just the thought gets me ill, very ill. I haven't been cooking much. And we might be neighbors. :) Do you post on the PA thread?? there are a ton of PA people here. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1489450 here is the link.

With me, I just had to wait for it to be over. I took my prenatal vitamin in the evenings and that didn't help much. Saltines made me really sick, so that didn't help. Honestly, the only things I could keep down were chocolate, oatmeal cookies and lemonade (no wonder I ended up with GD! ) My morning sickness subsided at around 21 weeks.

Sometimes, your ob/gyn can prescribe something that will help it. Mine wouldn't though. She just kept saying, "Oh, it should go away around 12 weeks." :confused3

Hope you feel better! :)

I lived on lemonade (sour) and pretzels (salty) for the first three months of my pregnancy.

I am taking a horse pill of a prenatal vitamin. Maybe that has something to do with the tummy trouble.

I couldn't swallow the prenatal vitamins so my OB/GYN had me taking Flintstone vitamins. You can always call yours and ask if there are alternatives.
I was so so sick with my daughter all day, it lasted until my fourth month. Hope yours passes soon!

I was sick for 8 weeks with DS. I would gag as soon as I put anything in my mouth.

I TOTALLY agree with eating sour things. I could eat Granny Smith apples, grapefruit, limeades, and Sour Berry Lifesavers later in the day. In the morning I was sick no matter what I did.

Nothing else really helped me - not Sea Bands, not prescription anti-nausea meds, not crackers, not anything.

I did switch to taking my vitamin right before bed which was good, but it didn't help me NOT feel sick during the day.

I admit, ginger ale and all ginger stuff started to make me feel worse, so I quit drinking that. I wound up switching to Coke since that seemed to work better than the sugared up ginger ale stuff. Also the preggo pops/drops were enough to make me want to get sick. I thought they were expensive and such a waste.

I sucked on a lot of different fruit flavored candies as well as butterscotch candies. Those did a lot of good for me.

I couldn't stomach pre-natals ever. So my doctor said I was fine to take chewables and then add in an extra dose of Folic Acid

B6 is the vitamin that I was told to take. If paired with regular unisom, it really helped cut down on it all. Ask your doctor about this one as it really helped more than anything else.

Eating PB on crackers before bedtime helped me as well. I had all day sickness with dry heaves (never able to throw up so I felt miserable) for about 20 weeks. I did a lot of very salty carbs (helped my stomach too).

Good luck with it all and I hope you feel better soon.

My OB told me that every single person's morning sickness cure is different. What works for me won't work for someone else. She had people do the ginger thing, the sour thing, even grapefruit:scared: What worked for me were the seabands and anything spearmint. It was weird though. I don't think it was so much the spearmint itself. As soon as I finished one, even though I still had the taste in my mouth, I'd start getting queasy again. So, I'd have to have something in my mouth at all times. Hard to sleep at night when you're afraid of choking to death on a mint! And this joy lasted into my 6th month. So, my advice is just keep trying different types of flavors, and see what works for you. Maybe it won't last long and by the time you find your "cure", you'll be over it. Good luck!

Kathy

Peppermint gum/candy took the edge off my morning sickness.

I hated my prenatal vitamin, too - made me constipated. My midwife said I could skip it altogether if I ate Total cereal every day - vitamins and a cure for constipation all in one!

Hope you are feeling better soon. If you are not, pleast talk to your doctor - he should have some recommendations.
