Just read on another Disney discussion site that there are plans to convert more of the hotel side of WL to DVC villas.

We have not stayed at WL yet, so what do those who have and owners think of this idea?

That's what they did at Animal Kingdom Lodge. They were not filling up the regular rooms so they converted some to DVC and also started building Kidani.

I wish they would do that at Grand California. Supposedly the regular hotel rooms in the new wing were designed to be easily converted to DVC if they wanted.

Personally, I prefer one main building over annexes and lodges; the overwhelming majority of our stays have been at AKV - Jambo House. If this truly comes to pass, then we would likely consider an add-on.

Anythings possible but VWL seems to be losing some of it popularity based on increased availability.

My home base is WL, so I am wondering how this will affect our fees.
The OP on the other site also mentioned that all the deluxe resorts would convert rooms over time, and only the Contemporary would not.
350 rooms converted to villas, expanded pool deck, and redoing Artiste Pointe. 2 concierge levels, one dedicated to DVC only. That will be a new villa category on the points chart.
He also mentioned that DVC is looking at moderates to possibly convert.

I think I will be a little sad if this happens. I think that the WL and it's Villas are absolutely perfect just the way they are.

I love the separate building and the quiet walk back to it at night with the flickering lights and "wilderness" sounds.

I love the special feeling of going "home" after leaving the main building and walking to the quaint, quiet villa building.

I love the quick and easy walk to the main lodge and all it has to offer without having to be in the middle of it.

I love passing the DVC sign and the Bambi topiary every time I come and go. I have a picture of my kids in front of it from every single visit. :goodvibes

I love the easy access to the bus stop. ;)

I know that if some of the lodge rooms are converted it won't mean that the current rooms will disappear, but not knowing where I would end up until I checked in and actually had a room in the current building would certainly cause me some anxious moments during my trip planning ::yes::

As a VWL owner I would love a concierge villa. I think VWL is a hidden gem and this expansion will make it more on the level of Poly and GFV.

Also a VWL owner and I think it sounds great. Also agree concierge would be fantastic and I would happily use my 11 month window to reserve there.

While anything is possible, I do find the prospect of a VWL expansion to be somewhat odd. WL has 729 hotel rooms and the conversion of 350 rooms would give DVC the majority share of the property (WL + VWL inventory).

It has always been my understanding that WL is one of the most popular deluxe resorts and has a high retention rate. Reducing its room inventory to 379 seems quite drastic.

Are you sure the source of this rumor wasn't talking about or mistaking the plans to build a DVC resort at Fort Wilderness? There have been permits and leaks of this designs for a few years now.

I'm a bit out of the loop, has there been any buzz about this lately?

As an owner there, I love your loves of VWL too;)

That said, I'm ok with it as long as any converted rooms are a separate category/different point requirements: higher (concierge), lower (value studios) or combo of the two.

converting mods to DVC is slippery slope for current owners. Mods inherently don't have the amenities of a deluxe resort and increased competition to book @ 7 months would likely be a bear if these memberships wouldn't be a different level with restrictions vs the current DVC structure.

does anybody have a link to this thread? Curious as to whether the poster is getting his info i.e. privy to insider info or via the rumor mill.

I love all these things too............and would want to stay in the villa area as it is now. It is so homey and cute.

I agree that they might be looking at concierge villas in the main WL. Otherwise, just to convert some rooms to DVC villas doesn't seem to make sense to me at this point. As I remember, at AKV-Jambo, the main reason they converted some regular rooms to DVC was to give a DVC "presence" ASAP while they were building Kidani. At least that's how it seemed to me when I stayed DVC at Jambo, while Kidani was being built. Since members seem to love the concierge, maybe DVC is expanding concierge offerings.

thank you for the link. Stopped reading on page 2 after reading the OP's comment:

I don't own DVC. I don't like timeshare. But I do have family that owns it.

some reason it reminds me of the Dos Equis beer spokesman's schtick. (I don't always drink beer, but when I do...);)

The original source was very specific. The Fort Wilderness plans are still in the cards but on hold. The current plan is to convert Wilderness Lodge rooms.

After reading thorough the 16 pages of comments, I have several thoughts:

(1) VWL extension offers must be coming. Teepees and converted rooms are not going to be sold at a premium for 26 years of use.

(2) Fixed-weeks will be the new norm going forward. Like the bungalows at the Polynesian, some members will want to lock in their teepees.

(3) If the Trinidad South conversion and Union talks are true, then the long-rumored moderate DVCs will soon be a reality.

so reading most of all that post made me feel like most people think of DVC Owners as "walmart" or the evil step child....:rolleyes2

and moderate DVC? what ? I would hope they could only buy/book at their home resort and not the Deluxes...

wow....now am I glad I am buying into WL or unnerved

maybe I missed it - but where did this information come from?
