Just about every time we go to Orlando we attend a timeshare presentation so we can collect gifts, tickets, whatever. I started keeping a log of our visits so people would get a better idea of how long these "90 minute" presentations take and what to expect. The original thread was here:

These are our latest visits.

Orange Lake Resorts

Actual time (from the time we left our hotel until we returned): 2.5 hours This resort was only a couple of miles away from our hotel so we arrived in less than 10 minutes.

Presentation: fairly low pressure. We let them know pretty early on that we were only checking the place out to rent and had no intention of buying so we weren't really pushed hard. We normally have a nice (well, at least a substantial) breakfast which adds on time. This place only had donuts, coffee and juice which we ate while the salesman talked. He only showed us a basic unit and the VIP suite, no campus tour. Not sure if this was standard or just because he knew he didn't have a sale.

The pitch: Started out at $53,000 for a 3-bedroom unit and $35,000 for a 2-bedroom. By the time it ended we could have bought a 2BR for $19,000 and a 1 BR for $10,000. They also offered a 5-night rental at a later time for $1000.

This resort is owned by the same folks who own Holiday Inns so the low pressure approach is probably standard. They don't need to upset people to the point where they tell their friends to avoid their hotels.

The reward: 80 Universal dollars. We booked this through Universal Studios so all the rewards offered had a tiein to US/IOA. If you book it through a hotel or some of the ticket sellers on 192 you can get 2 WDW Touch of Magic tickets for about $200. That's 2 days at the parks plus 1 day at a water park or Disney Quest for $100, a good deal but not as good as some other places offer.

Tomorrow we are going to visit Westgate Lakes, so I will post another report when we return.

We did the Bonnet Creek tour last week while we were staying there for $100 Disney gift cards. It took about 1 1/2 hours. Very low key and almost a bit interesting as they had a terrific speaker give a group presentation.

Touch of Magic tickets can be a terrible deal if you have to buy more Disney tickets during that vacation. You cannot add more days to Touch of Magic tickets.

And they can be a great deal if you don't. :thumbsup2 We already know the schedule for our vacation next March. Every day is accounted for and the only way they could add more days is if they won the lottery sometime before they arrive. In that case I doubt they will worry about it.

This morning we went to Westgate Lakes. This has a good payoff, 2 Touch of Magic tickets for $169. It also takes the most time and has the most pressure to buy. They give you a breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage, pastries, cereals, juices, etc. and while you eat the salesman tries to gain a rapport with you by telling personal stories, showing pictures of his children, etc. He's only trying to feed his family, meaning you are the only thing between him and his next meal.

The price for a 2 bedroom started at about $28,000 and was down to $10,000 for a resale or $1295 for a vacation and a membership plus the opportunity for 4 more getaways before 2012. We went through 4 different sales reps and managers before they finally gave in.

Timewise, the 90 minute presentation took just under 4 hours. Almost 30 minutes was spent waiting in line for our gift. We figured it was their way of punishing us for not buying :lmao:

This isn't the first time Westgate has run way over their stated time. If you don't have half a day to spare I'd think hard before you agreed to go to this one.

Hilton Grand Vacations

We were solicited for this tour at Islands of Adventure. Actual time spent was 3 hours. Light Continental breakfast of donuts, fruit, bagels, etc. Low pressure but 3 different people tried to sell us different variations of their product.

Pricewise went from $32,000 to a breathtaking $73,000 but the item they tried to push on us was 3400 points every other year with a 3400 point bonus and $500 maintenance every other year for $12,000. 3400 points was enough for a 1-week vacation in a 1-bedroom unit during high season. After they couldn't get a sale they offered a trial, 5000 points for $1200 or 7000 points for $1500. If you decided later on you liked their product you would get a full credit towards the $12,000 price.

Payout for this was 100 Universal dollars. The place is beautiful but it didn't take much searching to find the same amount of points in the same format (but in a different location. The Parc Soleil is brand new so there isn't much inventory yet but the points are good at any Hilton location) for less than $2500
