AHHHHHHHHHHH! I posted a thread awhile back about how I hated the phrase 'my bad'. Here are three others that are overused and just set my nerves on edge: 'Get over it', 'deal with it', and the one I REALLY don't like, 'suck it up'.

I hear people saying these things to other people all the time and they just sound so insensitive. There must be a better way to communicate the same idea. Whatever happened to being mindful of the other person's feelings? :confused3

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I don't like this saying:

Holy Cow.

It is an odd saying to me.How can a cow be holy? :confused3

I can't stand "my bad". "Closure" drives me nuts too!!! I am guilty of 'deal with it' and "suck it up" a lot with the kids when they get into the "it's not fair" speech.

If you live in India and your Hindu. ;)

Atm Machine

PIN Number

That gets on my nerves.

My Bad drives me batty too - DD has started saying this lately - WHY??

Also, "inner child" - WTH?

But the phrase the puts me completely over the edge is when white kids try to be "ghetto" and say things like "da bomb" - again, WTH??

A friend of mine says, "Your the bomb dot com!" in a very perky voice. It drives me insane!

Someone I know always says, "that was random", when I say something. I find it rude.

I used to hear this one in New Mexico--particularly to young boys--"Cowboy up." It just set my teeth on edge.

I also hate the term "back in the day." What day? January 12, 1970? Somehow it's been shortened from "back in the olden days" to "back in the day" and it annoys the heck out of me.

hands down - irregardless (it's just regardless  )

i don't like 'back in the day' either.

I have to jump in on the "my bad" thing....I hate that saying!! My DH says it just to annoy me...makes me want to scream when I hear it!

"No problem." This seems to have replaced "You're welcome" for every young person in a service industry job. I can say "Thank you" until I'm blue in the face, but all I ever hear back is "no problem". Glad to know that in this particular case, my patronage at your establishment did not present you with an inconvenience...

I dn't like "closure" either. However, my least favorite is using the word "journey" instead of "experience". Especially on reality television. For example, "Thank you for sharing this journey with me", when what they really mean is experience. It drives me right out of my mind.

Also, on reward shows (especially music awards) it always seems really insincere when people say, "First and foremost, I want to thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ." They may mean it, but it always sounds like BS to me.

This is exactly what I was going to say. I can't stand to hear someone say that.

I don't hear it as often anymore but I couldn't stand to hear someone say "talk to the hand"
**SMACK** Talk to that hand, why dont ya?! ;)

Probably a bunch. The first one that comes to mind is "I can't wrap my mind around that". Man, I hope not.

The only one that I really do not like is "my bad". Sounds plain stupid!

The others I don't mind, depending on the context. When my 12yo says "whatever" he means it in a disrespectful way, which I don't like. But if it's said in a different way I wouldn't get so mad.

I do say "suck it up" to my DH sometimes, which he doesn't exactly like, but he can be a big baby about somethings and I don't like it when adults act whiny, which is when I say it. Now he's started to say it sometimes. :rotfl:

One saying that I used to say that really bugged my DH is "shoulda, woulda, coulda". All I meant by it is that our intentions are not what is important as much as our actual actions. He took it to mean "whatever", which was not the meaning to me at all.

In general, though, I like expressions. I don't mean that I like using the same expression all the time, but I like how they add color to the conversation. I also like the history of different expressions and I have a book that tells about different expressions.

One phrase that bothers me is when people are talking and "you know" just pops up out of nowhere. No, I don't know, so why not just tell me instead of saying it.
