Is the rope drop befoer EMH or before regular opening? Sorry first timer.

Also if I am staying onsite but not purchasing tickets though disney can I still go to EMH?

rope drop is just when disney decides to let you in the park whether its emh or regular opening time and may or may not involve an actual rope, we just refer to "rope drop" instead of "being there when the park opens"

what allows you into emh is your "keys to the kingdom" resort id card (like a room key) and a ticket, some people who buy their ticket from disney will have the ticket on their room key electronically or in your case they will be separate and both will need to be presented to enter the park early but no worries plenty of other people will have two as well.

for some locations on some days there is an actual rope across the entrance. And rope drop refers to when they unclip it an drop it to the ground. On most days at MK and AK there is a thing with stuff and characters to welcome you and open the park.
