does anyone know why there is only one event a year at DL? WDW has so many! i really want to do more disney races but cant travel all the way to WDW:confused:

are there any plans to add more DL races? :confused3

It’s simple… WDW’s land use is controlled by Disney while DL is just the one section of land. It can be a monumental effort to get permits for running a long distance event. Often if running in several districts or municipality the level of effort can grow exponentially.

Did you know that DL had one marathon in the 1990’s. It was considered a flop. Apparently the course layout was a little confusing and runners were sent down an incorrect turn and cut some distance off the course.

They do host a number of walks of the 5K variety throughout the year though, because of the ability to keep it in the parks.

Next month there is the CHOC (Childrens Hospital of Orange County) 5k walk through the parks. Check CHOC's web site for information.

When I was at the RNR San Diego, a lady working at the Disney booth said they were thinking/maybe planning another event similar to the Princess 1/2 in WDW. Don't know when/if it would happen though. With the DL 1/2 in Sepember, I'm thinking if the race did happen, it would be early in the year. But like it was said above, WDW races are easier, so I would think that the course would be similar to the current DL 1/2.

Really? That would be fabulous!

I think there are two reasons. One is what Charles said, they don't have full control of the property like at WDW. Not that that is a deal breaker, there are races on city streets almost every weekend but it is a complication.

I think the second reason is the demographic of the Disneyland guest. If they added short races like 5Ks and 10Ks they would probably only attract the locals which make up so much of the park attendance anyway. They need to do the longer races to get the people in from out of town and longer races and that makes that first reason a bit harder. Getting 13 miles of city streets (ok, 10 once you take the park portions out of a half) closed is harder then 3 or 6 miles.

i wish they would do some 5k themed races once and a while like the halloween themed one they are doing at wdw , that'd be so fun!

According to my SIL that has ran a couple of times for the DL half you can dress up. I think it's the spirit of the race. Even races here in AZ people dress up while they run. I've only done it a couple of times like tomorrow I'm getting all Christmasy with my running attire. Sadly it's only the colors red and white. But yeah you should dress up. I once saw a guy during a race here in Arizona dressed up as a banana.....and he still finished pretty quickly. :P

This Sep would be the first time I ever run the DL 5K I want to train a little harder before I attempt the 1/2.
