Okay today is the day I am going to make my reservations, but first a couple more questions. First do I call hrh directly to book or use the number on the main Universal site? I am still undecided about club level so do I book standard and upgrade later or book club and downgrade later. We are going the first week of May. Just to confirm, you can only get one discount right? so if I am booking the stay more rate an anual pass would not lower my rate? We are staying seven nights. Any other tips?

Which hotel are you going to stay at? You can't combine discounts but you should ask the reservationist what is the best price given what you have. You'll have to decide what you want to book as you always run the risk of club rooms being sold out or regular rooms being sold out. It is more likely that you can just at club at check in. Sometimes they will give you the privilege even if they can't put you on the club floor. At Portofino, there is no dedicated club floor.

I'd try booking at Universal Orlando website first: http://www.loewshotels.com/en/booking/uo?hotel=UERPR.

If the SMSM rate is available for your dates, they should display. If not, then call the number listed on that website and see if its available over phone.

By staying seven nights, I can almost guarantee that the SMSM rate will be your best. We're staying 4 nights in October and the SMSM rate is currently the best we can find.

If you're unsure of club level, I would book without it. I expect that it would be easier to add it later then removing it. I've never used club level. Instead, we request a grocery stop with our town car service. We purchase water, soda, alcohol, ice, chips and sweets for our room. We'll also bring a transportable cooler in our luggage, and then fill it with the drinks and ice we purchased.

totally agree with patster.

i am using the smsm promo.
without it, my room would be over $2450 for my stay.

the promo rate saves me a lot of $$$.

only one discount per room reservation.

call and talk to the TM and ask them to give you the best rates out there for your dates.

go standard room.
if the hotel is at lower occupancy during your stay, you can upgrade to club cheaper then.
if you book club now, the rate is set.
if you upgrade, it could be cheaper per night.

We are staying at HRH March 29-April 5 club level, family of 5. I booked in Sept. and got a SMSM rate for $3069. We use the heck out of club 7 and usually only buy one meal each day.

spring break, holiday time periods have the highest rate category.

low season is when the rates are better.

Thank you for your response. It helps sometimes just to hear it from someone else. I am new to DISboards, but amazed at all the great info on here.
