More news about my Dad's story.....

Kevin... I hope this helps you and your mom find closure and some measure of peace. Although it is not nearly enough, at least this person will suffer some consequences and hopefully now will not hurt anyone else.

Aww, Kevin, I am pleased that his sentence was harsher but of course it is not nearly enough for the enormity of the crime. I hope you and your family can gain some measure of comfort from the willingness of law enforcement to keep pursuing the charges long after it was expected, and of course from the love and respect from your friends here.

You honor your father every day.

Kevin, while the judgement will not bring your Dad back, you and your family can have closure and now heal. Thanks for sharing your story with us. :grouphug:

I have to say I'm very impressed with how open you've been with all of this, sharing what I imagine was surely one of the most difficult things you've ever had to go through. You've been a real example for all of us on how to show immeasurable grace under pressure. Take whatever solace you can in this eventuality and know that we are behind you all the way. :grouphug:

Sincerely,

Pam

Well said. I'm glad for you and your family that part of the process is over and you can now have appropriate closure. Take care.

Kevin, I am glad your family has gotten closure and justice over the circumstances from your father's untimely death as a result of this tragedy. Hopefully, this sentence is enough to wake up the man responsible and brings about life changing decisions on how he lives from now on and into the future, so that no other family has to go through the suffering & loss that your family has experienced.

Wish it could have been a harsher sentence too. Hugs to you and your family.

Pre-trial hearings began yesterday and lasted well into last night (ending at approx. midnight).

We were told to be ready for the trial to begin on Wednesday.

We received a phone call today letting us know that that the man who hit and killed my Dad took a plea bargain to a lesser charge of DUI.

His license will be suspended for 1 year, he will have two years of probation, he will have enforced drug and alcohol counseling and he will have community service.

He will also have a felony conviction on his record and if he breaks his probation (and he will), he will go to jail.

While we would have wished for a harsher sentence of losing his license for life, we have to accept that this is the end. The final decisions have been made.

There is a certain relief in knowing that our part of this story is over.

It's time to let this go and start to get on with the rest of our lives. We all need to move ahead.

I would just like to tell you all how grateful we are for your outrage, your letter writing, your friendship and your support.

My Dad would be very pleased to know that you all stood by him through all of this.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Kevin

 to you Kevin. Your family is in my thoughts! I know this whole thing has got to be hard on everyone... I pray for peace in your hearts. BIG HUGS TO YOU PAL!!!

Hi Kevin,

I'm glad the situation is being resolved. Hopefully, you and your mom can find some sort of peace with the outcome. I think it's terrible that the punishment for taking another's life isn't more harsh and I think you are correct, that this person will probably break the rules of their probation. Karma is a b**ch and I'm sure this person will receive his just rewards in this life or the next.

Cathy

Kevin, So glad to hear that you and your family are getting some closure with this tragedy. May you find peace knowing that you did everything possible to get justice for you dad.

Hugs,

Thanks for the update, Kevin. I have never met you but feel like you're family. You didn't have to let us in on the details, but you did - thank you. And hugs to you and your family. We love you!

My heart goes out to you and your family. This July we will begin the trial of the man who robbed and murdered my husband two years ago. I don't know how my story will turn out but I do understand the wish to move on. I think I would be grateful for a plea as long as the sentence were hard enough. Since there is no good outcome in these trials only trail of victims, it is good to see your family pull together and support each other. Bless you all and I wish you peace in your heart and mind.

I wish nothing but good things ahead for you and your family...lord knows you deserve it. Hugs to you all. :grouphug:

No one should ever have to face something like this. I'm truly sorry.

Please dont hesitate to contact me if you feel the need to talk.

I wish you the same peace of heart and mind.

Be strong.

While it is disappointing Kevin I am glad you have some peace and can move on. ((HUGS)) from our family to yours.

I'm so glad that you didn't have to go through a trial. I work in the courts (not in FL) and know how things go. Victims are rarely satisfied that punishments are harsh enough. I also know how often people re-offend. We run a drug court and people go through extremely intense treatment and supervision and it is very successful. So hopefully treatment and some supervision will help this person so that no one else's family suffers at his hand ever again. I hope the resolution of the case helps you in some way.
Again - I'm so sorry for your loss and know that you are in my prayers.

Kevin, John and Klose Family,

I am praying for your peace and strength as you all move forward from here. I am truly sorry you have had to endure this ordeal after suffering such a tremendous loss.

I also pray that this man realizes what a completely undeserved gift he has been given and uses it wisely and never hurts anyone again.

All my best

Susan

Thanks for sharing your updates, Kevin. I'm so glad this has brought your family some closure. I wish the outcome would have meant that the man would never get his license back, though. I pray he takes this all seriously and gets his life in order so this never has to happen to anyone else, ever again. I'm so sorry that your family had to endure this, but I'm glad you now have a chance to move on.
Hugs to you and your family.

Thanks Kevin. I sure you know what it is like to try to be strong when all you want to do is retreat to a corner and bandage your wounds. I have been touched by your story since you first posted it and although I am a regular podcast listener, I don't post here often. The same goes for you (and anyone else) if you want to talk to someone who has lost a loved one to violence. We mustn't think that we are alone.

Sorry to be a thread killer. Let's redirect this to Kevin and his family.

:grouphug: Many hugs as you and your family move on with your lives. May you find comfort in the memories of your time together. May this man never hurt another family as he's hurt yours.
