More memory maker questions

I don't know why I'm having such a hard time understanding the ins and outs of memory maker. LOL! I'm curious if I'm able to purchase memory maker after our trip? Like, if we get back and I look through the photos and there's some that I want, can I add the memory maker then? Will there even be photos to look through when we get home if I don't sign up for it beforehand?

Also, question on the ride photos... I was told on the Dis boards that ride photos automatically attach to our account because of the magic bands, no need to check in anywhere after the ride. But while looking for the answer to my previous question, I saw this on Disney's website:
Q.
How do I link an attraction photo to my Disney account so that I am able to download it with my Memory Maker purchase?

A.
Immediately after you have experienced a participating attraction, please visit the attraction’s Sales Center and link the photo to your Disney account. You can link the photo using any MagicBand or card linked to your account—including Memory Maker cards and Disney PhotoPass Cards.
Attraction photos can only be linked to your Disney account if Memory Maker is assigned to you. Your family and friends can link attraction photos to their Disney account(s).
Once you’ve linked your photo, you can view, download and share your memories on MyDisneyPhotoPass.com and on theMy Disney Experience Mobile App.

Is that outdated? Or was I misinformed?

Last question, I also saw this on Disney's website:

See a photo you love—but it’s not eligible for download with Memory Maker? All available Disney PhotoPass photos are available for purchase as downloads or on a variety of unique photo gift and print products. Additional fees apply.

When would that be the case? Are there some photos that aren't included in memory maker?

Thank you for any and all help. I have a feeling this is something I'm overthinking, and once I use it, will be smacking myself in the forehead for making a fool of myself here!

You can purchase Memory Maker at any point. If you buy it at least 3 days before the first picture gets taken, there is a cost savings compared to buying it mid trip/after trip. Most pictures should still show up on your account, and you can check them as you go via the MDE app on your phone. You don't need to by Memory Maker to use Photopass, Memory Maker just entitles you to downloads of every picture on your account instead of having to buy downloads/prints individually. If you think you will end up wanting 10-12 pictures (rough breakeven point), it's almost always going to be a better deal to pre-buy it, and that will also often motivate you to stop for more pictures.

Ride photos should indeed automatically link to your account if you have newish Magic Bands. (Newish, because the long range batteries stop working at some point, guesses 2+ years) If you don't have Magic Bands, then you would indeed need to stop to have the pictures linked. Or, if your picture doesn't get linked for some reason, you can stop and have them locate/link it for you.

Depending on when you bought Memory Maker, some pictures might not be eligible. IE if you bought the advance purchase Memory Maker, but still had pictures taken within the 3 days of purchase. Those wouldn't be covered under Memory Maker, but you could still download them if you purchased them individually. Alternately, you might have a very long trip, or multiple trips within a few months, and the later pictures might not be covered since you are only eligible for 30 days of downloads. Outside of scenarios like that all the Photopass pictures should be covered by Memory Maker.

Thank you so much! Do you know how I will know if the ride photos are linking? Should I he checking MDE after each ride?

You could check on MDE to be sure. Also, something we discovered...the ride does automatically read your chip to link your photo. However, in the past we've ended up having some missing ride photos and ended up with other random family's photo which can usually be fixed. This past recent trip we also tapped our bands to our photo on the little screens at the rides' exit and had no missing photos at all.

Thank you! That is what we'll probably end up doing to be sure. The thing that is going to make memory maker worth it for me is the ride photos.

Yes they are fun and we get a kick out of the ride videos too (tower of terror & seven dwarfs). It's also nice too once you're back home to edit some of the photos with the provided Disney borders and ride names. We make a copy of each original so we'll always have an original before downloading all.

So I'm home after our trip--what's the order of things to proceed with my Memory Maker? Do I download everything first? Do I add things and then download? I just don't want to mess up and lose it all. Still waiting for a few pictures to show up because their system was having some major issues when we were there.

However you want to do it. If you download them all first, then you know that you will have one copy of them. When you go to add borders, etc., I would make a copy and then save the copy. Go back into the copy to make edits. I remember (I don't know if it still does or not) that it used to save the copy and then sometimes the original would disappear. One other tip is that if you intend to print a picture larger than 4X6, make a copy of it in the 5X7 or 8X10 so that the borders and stickers don't get cut off when you print it.

Thanks! I hadn't even thought about the enlargement factor! I can see that I would've messed something up! LOL!
