More Disneyland California Visitors

Another bunch of WDW fans branching out to California next July/August!!!!

We've finally managed to book our flights using a combination of Avios (both BA and Avios websites) and American Airlines AAdvantage miles, and are flying LHR to JFK on AA (24/07), 4 nights in NY then business class flights from JFK to Los Angeles (28/07).

We have 11 nights in CA, so planning 3 or 4 nights on the coast near San Diego, then back up to Anaheim to fit in Disneyland, Universal and possibly a day (or two) at the beach.

Business class flights back to JFK (for DW and DD at least - I'm back in economy as only two business class seats available at the moment ) on 08/08, overnight at JFK and the daytime BA flight back to LHR, although hoping to be able to get an upgrade to WT+ using Avios.

Will be interesting to compare the parks, but looking forward to it, although as we have been spoiled with free DDP on our last few visits to WDW, I expect the credit card(s) may well be screaming..............

Not sure yet - we were thinking of the Howard Johnson that gets good reviews, but some time to go yet before making any firm decisions!!!!

We did Disneyland in 2009 and loved it!
It was an adult only trip and we stayed just outside of Anaheim as I was booking it and didn't realise that Disney itself was kind of separated in it's own little area!

It was so different from Disney world, it has bugs life land which is spoofing cute and I was gutted that the boys wasn't with us to see some of the stuff they had like monsters Inc Alice in wonderland and Indian jones ( loved that) they also have the most amazing nemo under water ride!

Universal however was a let down for me! It's TINY we stayed at the Hilton universal and it was amazing we was on the 14th floor and the view was insane!! right opposite city walk and universal plus just up the hill from the underground so easy access to Hollywood and all the attractions can not wait to visit again.

you'll be surprised how far it is from NYC to LA - it's a big country!!

do you mean you'll fly first class from NYC to LA? i thought there's no domestic business class in the US, only first class - not that it's all that first class, but still better than economy.

by the way, we spent 4 and a half days at DL/DCA and found it wasn't nearly enough to do everything...we only got a taste of it...
the parks are very very crowded in the summer..
and when we were there, it was very very hot!!

According to Seat Guru, the flight uses a three class B767, so unfortunately DW and DD won't be enjoying the benefits of first (as yet!!!). I'll just hope they will throw me a bag of pretzels or nuts back towards my economy seat!!

oh yes, AA - i just looked it up on seat guru..
interesting - i never knew there was any first class inside the US, only transatlantic..

i'd love to see pictures of both the first class and business if you have the opportunity...

as for throwing you peanuts in economy - maybe because it's transcontinental, but the domestic airlines have been cutting back even on that!!!

For someone with the memory of Dory (finding Nemo!!), it may be a challenge to remember to take the photo!!!!

We stayed at the HOJO last year, it was OK, we had a theme park view room and it was a bit noisey as its a very busy road.

Did San Diego this year and really liked it, we stayed on Coronado which was lovely, couldn't afford the Del Coronado sadly.

Hope you have a great time. I was there last month and I completely agree with Tinkerpeas - Universal Studios was a massive let down. Even in July I'd allow a maximum 2 days there and I'd guess you can do it in 1 day if you plan it properly.

I enjoyed Universal back in 2005 but we did it in a day no problem.

We managed universal in 1 day and that was with it raining ALL day non stop (October) x

Thanks everyone. We were only planning on the one day at Universal at a weekend so that we could get there from Anaheim and hopefully avoiding the weekday traffic.
