more cutbacks - Princess Fantasy Faire

Honestly, i've never been through all of DCA. my family has never even been in DCA.

it just hasn't be something we've been interested in. now that we have the year long passes perhaps we will explore DCA a little..but what i saw i was not interested in. With the exception of Soarin.

How about they skip the wait to meet only 3 princesses ( and you don't know who you will get) and have them ALL be in the stage area mingling about for people to meet.

Or even better, how about they return the princesses to the courtyard areas in front of the castle for meet and greets. There was always an element of surprise and special Disney magic when you just happened upon a princess near the castle.

Then they could use the Fantasyland Theater for a real stage show (like Nemo in WDW). I think a theater should be used for something theatrical, right?

It's okay. I didn't mind it. I much prefer DL to DCA. My DBIL liked the DCA better. He said that DL was just a little "too much" disney.
I guess it is all just in the eye of the beholder. The only thing I really liked about DCA was going for a beer when I needed a little down time

Totally!! I would love to see a real stage show! This whole thing really wants me to go to the World for our next trip instead of the Land

Give it try, it's much better than you might think.

ITA. I have issues with how Disneyland chooses to use their characters in special meeting areas. I see the some pros of them, but I personally think kids would have a longer lasting impression and more magical feeling if they "ran into" Aurora in front of her castle or Snow White near her wishing well. The lack of face characters out at random bothers me.

I remember seeing "Beauty and the Beast" there, it was so wonderful. I also remember when they did "Hunchback of Notre Dame" in Frontierland. Seeing those two shows are some of my favorite memories. I wish they would include more shows like that in Disneyland.

I personally think kids would have a longer lasting impression and more magical feeling if they "ran into" Aurora in front of her castle or Snow White near her wishing well. The lack of face characters out at random bothers me.

That sounds so magical! I would be excited to run into them at their special places, so I could only imagine how excited my niece's would be. I really think more face characters should be out and about.

Disneyland and WDW have VERY different guests.

WDW visitors are much more tourists while DL is much more local guests.

WDW is more of a destination vacation while Disneyland is both short getaways and local visits.

What works at one park does not necessarily work at the other in all cases.

Dreams is very much on the money with her comments. I have posted the same things on these very boards. (I started with WDW (15 visits in under 8 years) when I lived in the Midwest and became a DL devotee when I moved here.)

One thing to keep in mind is that it takes an awful lot of people to run those stage productions. For every actor, figure a ratio of 5 or so support personnel. Nemo runs higher than that, due to puppets and maintenance. They're all union, too. That's a good bit of salary.

Many years ago, someone gave me the $ figures on what it takes to run Fantasmic (he was a technical crew member who was rigging sets on a Disney mall promotional tour in the off-season). I don't remember the exact numbers anymore, but my initial response was complete shock at the reality. I then completely understood why it was seasonal.

Take inflation and this economy and the fact that the DLH had availability still for Christmas Eve and Day....

I heard the same thing. It was way more than I ever thought. It also really puts into perspective how much money Disneyland must make in 1 day.

Once they stop having to hand out prizes for YOMD, they should have some funds to spread to other areas. What they're probably going to do is not cut out the princess shows entirely, but limit them to 2 story times and 2 stage shows instead of having about 5 or 6 of each every day.

Did they take away the Bootstrapper pirates too? I am so behind on things. My family loved that live entertainment they did there.

I don't remember if they're gone for sure yet, but it's soon. My friend is/was a Bootstrapper and has no idea what he's gonna do once he's laid off. He's been w/ Disney for 17 years, working as a Dapper Dan for the majority of the time, but now, I have no idea what he's gonna do.
I'm gonna miss singing the "Jack Sparrow" song.
