More Booze in the MK!

I really think it is inevitable.

Disney says they are expanding alcohol from BOG to the other Restaurants because of a huge demand from Guests.

I would expect in a few years,Disney will say due to a huge demand by our Guests to be able to enjoy an alcoholic beverage while touring the Park,we will begin offering a few premium beers, etc. at select kiosks in Magic Kingdom for our Guests' enjoyment,etc,.etc.

JMHO(A LOT of money to be made).:)
I would think it more due to the bean counters with the recent plethora of other upsells.

Once Disney tires of large parties making ADRS just to grab a beer or 2 we'll start seeing the carts on Main Street. A change for the better, IMO. Looking forward to having an option besides BOG for a drink.

As long as Disneyland stays dry, I have no problem with Magic Kingdom selling alcohol. Really, Disneyland was Walt's park. The park where he actually walked and spent so much time. The FL parks are different, to me.

"No liquor, no beer, nothing. Because that brings in a rowdy element. That brings people that we don't want and I feel they don't need it. I feel when I go down to the park I don't need a drink. I work around that place all day and I don't have one. After I come out of a heavy day at the studio sometimes I want a drink to relax." - Walt Disney to journalist Pete Martin for the Saturday Evening Post in the summer of 1956

And right before that quote he says he will not sell Cotton Candy ...............

When alcohol was first announced for the restaurant there was something about 2 glasses per an ID. It does appear that either never came to be or is simply not enforced.

Yes! They would not allow me to order a third drink when I had dinner here, but they did offer to have me purchase the bottle and have it at the table while we ate.

Just spoke with MK insider who says they have been told (and we know told and implement are two different things) that they will be enforcing the 2 drink limit now. I am sure this has less to do with inebriation and more to do with turning over tables. We shall see.

Been an interesting afternoon here discussing this with DS.

Preface with:
- Family of 5, kids all 21+, 2 kids drink .... so yes, we have alcohol in the house.
- We are beer and liquor folks.
- At Disney we will drink at the other parks if it works into plans.
- Epcot, no issue with grabbing a drink and walking about or having a flight at Biergarten, NYE, F&W ...
- AK, has some delicious drinks and enjoy Nomad and such.
- DHS, Club Villain, BD Lounge, SWW fun drinks .... but never with meals.
- Disney Springs :)
- So we do not object to drinking and drink at Disney (not to excess)
- I firmly believe the greatest perk to staying onsite is the DDBD ... Disney Designated Bus Driver

My thought on alcohol in MK:
- I don't perceive myself drinking at all there, mostly because there are so many rides - doesn't mix.
- I understood the "partnership" and atmosphere for BOG dinner.
- I see how they are pairing and making it look appropriate for each restaurant.
- I likely won't buy anything because I'd rather a specialty umbrella drink ... not overpriced beer.
- I usually enjoy drinks as something on it's own, not to accompany a meal.
- I do not see the need for it at MK.
- I think it's sad if you need a drink at MK to enjoy.
- I am not upset (my stockholder self loves folks buying overpriced drinks).
- I just hope this is not a slippery slope ...

DS thought on alcohol in MK:
- Twenties and LOVES his craft beer etc.
- He is very disappointed.
- He doesn't think it belongs.
- He is completely against it.
- He doesn't see why folks have such a need .. in that park.

I am kinda indifferent if they keep it within the TS locations, under control.

I don't particularly like it but don't get all the outrage and the excuses why it's wrong ...
- Walt is dead and has been dead a long time.
- Yes he built Disneyland as a family park, had a beginning plan for WDW and designed MK.
- He did not design anything else, did not have input.
- Who knew if he would have foreseen the global impact and size of Disney to come?
- What he did say is things like never complete, focus on future, take risks ....
- Disney Parks are for EVERYONE and every single trip there are more adults than kids.
- We are a family of parents and kids, adult kids .......... and we all have money.
- Disney wants our money, they want adults money.
- What is great is Disney is fun for every age, that doesn't mean it is geared for one age.
- No, Disney is not just for young families .. find his quotes ... ageless, timeless, adults grown up kids ...
- Walt Disney did not box his parks in to an age limit, it was for everyone.
- The Disney Company is trying to offer something for everyone, take it or leave it.
- Disney sells alcohol (and just about all else) at highly inflated prices ... if guests will pay, they sell it.
- First and foremost .... a business in the business to make $$$.

HEY, they got to pay for this ROL debacle somehow ;)

Valid point and agree. DS and I were just talking about this. I said to him the parks themselves are apples and oranges. Not only can you walk out to Downtown Disney in minutes at DL ... the park is heavily supported with local APs and I don't see them heading there to drink. WDW is an international destination with lots of hotel rooms and lots of guests spending lengths of time with big pocketbooks.

So Disneyland should stay dry unless you are super wealthy? That's fine if that's your position but anyone who thinks Disneyland is dry has to at least admit if you're willing to pay enough that it is not.

I have never actually seen any drunk person making a scene anywhere in WDW and I have been there multiple times during F&W. Even thought I know it happens I don't think that it is very common.

I have seen it many times over at EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, as recently as last week.

And even if people don't get drunk, they will still have nasty alcohol breath. Have you ever stood in a line with someone who has been drinking? It's disgusting. Even from quite a few feet away, you get whiffs of that can make your stomach turn. Ewww ....

Should we ban all garlic from restaurants too because you might have to stand in line next to someone with smelly garlic breath?

Even if there was no alcohol in the parks, they will still have nasty BO. Have you ever stood in a line with someone who has not been showering? It's disgusting. Even from quite a few feet away, you get whiffs of that can make your stomach turn. Ewww ....

That's equally as disgusting. So is smokers smell. Even people with too much cologne. It's all nasty.

BTW, your post kind of makes it sound like you are saying people who drink have BO and don't shower. :crazy2:

They have no real argument so it's always veiled insults/implying that people who enjoy a drink must be alcoholics. :lmao:

Yeah .... I think those of us that have posted a line similar what you imply to - did so because of all those posting stories about folks guzzling on the riverboat in the am, folks heading out to the hotels to get drunk to come back in, those who say they want beer to tolerate the kids or the park, those who sneak, those whose say they don't want to go to MK due to it's dry ..... certainly not was in response to those who like drinks with dinner. Don't presume we are calling anyone alcoholics.

Them are fighting words!

I told my husband about this and he is happy. No he isn't a big drinker but he said it will be nice to have a beer with his meal at Liberty Tree Tavern and I agree. Glad they have a two drink maximum and honestly I can't imagine having more than one. With so many international visitors I think this is a good thing. International visitors tend to come from places that don't have the puritanical view of alcohol that many americans tend to have.

I'm not sure why so many people are commenting about how bad it is

Basically because we're smart enough to realize that this is just the beginning and that it will end up with kiosks all over and people walking all over with drinks in their hand.

If they were going to keep it at a drink at dinner only, great. But it won't stay that way.
