More backyard drama...

We had kids running around our driveway, grabbing the radio antennas, hiding behind DH's motorcycle. Yep, the minute you start messing with my vehicles I'm going to say something.
I don't care if they are just kids. It doesn't take much to knock down a motorcycle. Plus, we had a battery charger on the bike so I had extension cords snaking through the driveway. All I need is for some kid to trip over the cord, into my vehicle and hurt himself. I get sued.
So I politely go outside and asked the kids if they could remove themselves from my driveway. I told them that they are right next to a big park and I would appreciate it if they played over there. Yes, I was polite. I got called foul names and was flipped off. So much for being polite. :sad2:

Can you please point out where a party was mentioned? I must be blind. :3dglasses

If one of the kids falls and hurts themselves on her property you better believe they'll get sued. Alternately, what if one of thm damages something. Think they'll pay for it?

How does your response apply to my question? Did you quote the wrong person?

Some will allow this risk to sway them. Some just want privacy. No biggie - your home, your choice. Me - I like to let kids be kids, and running around the neighborhood laughing and having fun is just that (for me)...

I'm going to guess this parents don't care. I would call the police

Really? For a couple of kids running through a yard? A one time incident. I have 3 kids. They are taught to respect property but they are also kids so I'm not going to say that they would never get caught up in a game and run into a yard. If a neighbor came to me about it I would speak to my kids and tell them not to do it again. If a neighbor came out and spoke to them and asked them to stay out of the yard I believe they would stay out of the yard. I hardly think you need to call the cops b/c a couple of kids are running around playing hide and seek:confused3

Seriously, and to the poster that stated to call the police because some 12/13/14yo's were running around outside their home. Come on, people.....please. :headache:

Nope I was taught to stay off people property. I teach my kids to stay off of people property. If this kids get hurt the kids parents won't think twice to sue.

Sorry I disagree, kids can run around all the want. When they are in my yard or backyard I draw the line end of story. Do you all allow your kids to play in your neighbors backyards?

Ummm...

'Let's eat Grandma!' or, 'Let's eat, Grandma!'

I would say something to the parents if that doesn't stop it then I would call the cops.

I have horses, goats and chickens. My yard is fenced going halfway into the woods ( its a 4 acre lot). My neighbors kids know they are not allowed to go near the barn or animals without my permission.

Last year my neighbor was watching her friend's kids a few days a week. The kids were allowed to play in the yard/woods as long as they stayed in the yard and could see the house. On day my horse was running around her paddock, when I went out to see what was the matter, there was the 10 year girl my neighbor was watching, in the paddock with my horse trying to play with her. As soon as she saw me she ran back to the other yard but I followed her back to my neighbors and told on her, not to get her in trouble but because its my yard. PERIOD

If she got hurt, I could have gotten sued. Even though I had TWO fences went over to get into the paddock.

popcorn::Can I join you!

Absolutely, Sue!!! :cool1:

As far as me, personally, my kiddos are all grown and off on their own BUT even when they were younger, I could have cared less who was in our yard.

When my kiddos were really little, we lived in Ohio, and my yard was HUGE. My kiddos were like 2&6yo. I received a call from a neighbor that said, "have you looked out in your front yard?" .. No, why .. "there are like 10 jr hi kiddos playing touch football, they aren't even your kids ages and your kids are not even outside, are you allowing them on your property?"
I looked outside, I had NO problem with them playing out there at all. Big deal. And what a nosey neighbor that was (I thought) that called me to rat out these kids. :headache:

Again, I repeat, BIG DEAL.

At 13-14 they should know to respect people's property.

My thoughts exactly. It all comes down to having respect and courtesy for other people.

That is terrible! The sense of entitlement some people have is :sad2:

Yep, two major reasons why this upsets us.

I'm going to guess this parents don't care. I would call the police

I don't think I would call the police because they live in the neighborhood, and I really don't want to start a feud with anybody.

Some will allow this risk to sway them. Some just want privacy. No biggie - your home, your choice. Me - I like to let kids be kids, and running around the neighborhood laughing and having fun is just that (for me)...

Thank you for bringing up what is the bottom line here - it's our property, and people need to respect our wishes, whether or not they agree with them.

It was not a one time incident. This has happened before, and I forgot to mention that I believe the girl was the same one who was on my property the first time (with the younger girl). If it is the same girl, she's clearly being defiant, as she was already told once to stay out of our yard.

I don't guess I've ever thought about such things. I don't even have children but have kids playing in my backyard. My backyard butts up against another yard that has kids. They use both yards to play football or soccer or whatever. I've never thought about them not playing in my yard. Heck I even give them gatorade and snacks:confused3
