Hi All,

I am just booking my first cruise (Disney or other) and need more information regarding the baby nursery. I think I saw another post that on one ship it is called Flounders?

What ikind of services do they have? DD will be 2 1/2 when we sail. Will they watch her? During dinner hours, so we can eat alone at least once? Any informatin would be greatly appeciated! :earsgirl:

Thanks! Chris

they will watch a 2 1/2 year old, the hours are limited but do include the dinner hour. it is a much smaller area than the regular kids area (but away from the kids are so it's quieter), they have the smaller type of toddler toys, a tv/vcr with the younger age disney videos, games, coloring-all age appropriate. they have you bring your own diaper and feeding supplies, but i think they may offer some small treats (they can warm food or a bottle for you)-one night for our son we ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and fruit from roomservice to take. there is a charge (minimal) and space is limited so i would suggest that you go ahead and sign up for the times you want during embarkation. the staff was very nice. the one thing i would suggest (unless they have changed their policy) is to take your little one over to the older kids area and have them entered into their computer system-this way the child will be given a little wristband with a scan code and you will be given a pager that corresponds to the scan code (if they need you while your child is in the daycare center they can page you anyplace on deck, or if your child is active as my son was, if they happen to toddle off while in your care any crew member will immediatly use the scan code to page you).

have a great time-we are about to go on our 3rd cruise, and i can tell you that when my son was a toddler he loved every minute on board. :goodvibes

I had my daughter in there once when she was 2 1/2 and honestly it is geared more towards the under 2 set. The toys were very babyish and most of the older ones were just sitting in front of the TV watching movies. She went once and wouldn't go again. The next cruise she was older and was able to go with the 3&4 year olds in the club and she loved it. You can still take your child to the club to play at 2 1/2 but you have to stay with them.

We took our DS when he was 18 months. The toys are geared more towards smaller ones. We only put him in there 2 times. One afternoon, and one evening. It does cost extra, and spaces do fill up. I agree with barkley, defineatly sign up ahead of time. Just remember that you have a youngster and will be in the cabin early for bed. We had a blast when we went, but missed out on alot of things because of naps, or bedtime. I was 3 months pregnant and didn't mind the naps :)

We traveled in March with a 2 1/2 year old, and yes, I agree that the toys and atmosphere are geared more towards babies.

However, the staff is wonderful - and they really try to entertain the older ones. One CM from Brazil even took my DD over to the oceaneers club and let her play there - not even knowing that her sister was over there. She let my DD play over there for awhile and kept going back to check on her. It was the perfect arrangement!

My only surprise of the trip - thanks to this board - was that Flounders does not serve dinner. We dropped her off at 6, and I was surprised to learn they wouldn't feed her. We ended up grabbing something from Topsiders later for her, but the room service idea posted above is great one.

Go early - and relax. Your DD will be in good hands.
